I have also received numerous calls from the number (203) 427-6978. According to yellowpages.com, YP.com, it belongs to a beauty school:

Received call from this number about 2 1/2 hours ago on my cell#... As usual, the phone spammers/scammers did not leave any message.

they call atleast 3xweek...other #'s from same people have caused me to goe as far as telling them that my lawyers/legal council are just a few days away from delivering the law suite details and cease/assist  to whoever this is and everybody and more in his office/department. Tell them I was looking forward to seeing them soon. Its funny...haven't had a call in over 8mos? Weird?   You can play their game if you use your imagination!

Got a one ring hang ip

Rang once and hung up.  This has happened several days in a row.

They called claiming that I won a $100 gift card, but that I needed to pay a $9.95 payment up front, in order to receive it, sounds like a scam to me, so I hung up!

Same as most of the others on here, called and hung up quickly. I won't call back neither should anyone else...

This number called me at 10:50pm central time(203.427.6978). Did half a ring then it cut off. No message left.  Didn't call back of course.

Rang twice. I knew I should have checked it before I called back, but I didn't. Recorded message about having visited one of their sites and winning a $100 gift card. I pressed 1 and a man who spoke English very well said something to the effect of, "Thanks for calling. May I have your name?" I asked what company this was that was calling and he hung up. Immediately came here and found out why he hung up!

Makes me wonder why I have a land line phone anymore, 90% of the scam calls I get are on the land line (this one included) and we get almost no legitimate calls on this phone.

In general, call blockers are useless here.  I have gotten many many calls from the same scam before, but they always show up as a different number.  While this scam MAY be different, chances are the next time someone gets a "ring twice hang up" scam call, there is no way to tell if it's the same people behind it as the last call because they always hang up right away and it's always a different number.

While the DNC registry is certainly a good thing to have your numbers on, I can tell you that calls like these WILL NOT stop due to your number being on this registry.  The companies/scams that do these do not care about the do not call registry and for the most part there is nothing we can do to stop them since they are calling from outside the US.
