Australian healthcare provider organizations must now translate those initial investments into outcomes. Large transformational projects will continue to form part of the ICT opportunities within the healthcare industry, but IDC is expecting a much slower growth rate, and a shift in investment to software and IT services in support of the platforms and process changes that are required to deliver improved productivity across the sector.
"Australian healthcare organizations are now challenged by the requirement to create an environment that enables connected care across all facets of healthcare provision, that can deliver more productive services, and ultimately reduce the resources required without threatening the quality of healthcare services," says Emilie Ditton, Head of AP Vertical Markets for IDC Australia.
As aged care and chronic disease management become focus areas for the healthcare industry, care management solutions with mobility as a key enabler will see more investments.
"The success of a connected healthcare atmosphere lies in the ability to give access to healthcare data to clinicians at the point-of-care, including the patient's homes. The eHealth records and the National Broadband Network can be good foundation. What is required in the future is to have policies in place for care management plans that involve the individual, the primary care physician, as well as the social support system in chronic disease, and wellness management," says Sash Mukherjee, Research Manager, IDC Health Insights, Asia/Pacific.
Frost & Sullivan: Electronic Funds Transfer-Point of Sale Terminals Rapidly Moving towards Mobile Platforms
The electronic funds transfer-point of sale (EFT-POS) terminals market is expected to grow rapidly as vendors capitalize on opportunities in emerging markets such as China, India, Brazil and Mexico. The emergence of mobile POS (mPOS) payment-based solutions has provided added opportunities for vendors.
"mPOS payment-based solutions have become a viable option for small enterprises and direct sellers owing to its cost-efficiency, security and easy-to-use features," said Frost & Sullivan Global Program Director, ICT in Financial Services, Jean-Noël Georges. "This niche market is also the perfect entry point for new challengers to deploy their innovative payment systems based on a cost-effective business model."
Market entrants will still face significant barriers especially in Western Europe and the United States, where the market is saturated. Moreover, challenging economic conditions have led to prolonged recession in some of the major markets for the POS industry ? the United States, the Eurozone, and parts of Asia and Latin America, reducing the addressable market base for terminal vendors as even existing customers are wary of capital expenditure.
Another factor holding back robust growth is the lack of industry-wide security and payment processing standards. Despite the existence of the Europay, MasterCard and Visa as well as Payment Card Industry standards, several countries in Europe and Asia have set their own policies. While these new security requirements play a key role in combating fraud, they have an adverse impact on a vendor's time to market.
Nevertheless, these national level mandates issued by governments to aggressively pursue the upgrade of payment infrastructure have also widened the prospects for terminal manufacturers.
"To capitalize on this potential, global EFT-POS providers must enhance and personalize customer experience," noted Georges. "Apart from extending services such as money transfer, bill payment, age verification, mobile top-up and couponing, offering loyalty programs and gift card applications will open up additional avenues for revenue generation."
Windows Touch and Chromebooks Boost U.S. Back-to-School Computer Sales, But Not Enough to Stop Overall Declines, According to the NPD Group
U.S. computer sales for the 10-week back-to-school period declined just slightly: 2.5 percent from 2012, according to The NPD Group?s Weekly Tracking Service.
Notebook and desktop sales both slipped, off nearly 2 percent and 5 percent, respectively. The average price of a computer also declined from $709 in 2012 to $671 this year. Overall, though, computer sales did slightly better than expected thanks to some new momentum in the market.
Chromebooks, which didn?t exist in 2012, added almost 175,000 units to the market this year and provided all the growth in the challenged notebook market; entry-level Windows notebooks (under $300) increased 14 percent, and Windows touch notebooks accounted for 25 percent of Windows notebook sales.
Macbook sales fell more than 3 percent as the average selling price plummeted from $1445 to $1286. Windows notebooks $300-$700, the highest volume segment of the Windows notebook market, were also the largest drag on the results posting unit declines of 16 percent and accounting for 64 percent of all Windows notebooks sold. Overall, Windows notebook volume was down more than 6 percent with average prices remaining flat at $478.
?Chromebooks and Windows Touch helped offset what could have been much steeper declines this back-to-school season,? said Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis at NPD. ?While these
results are better than the almost 4 percent decline from the first half of the year, any declines in the crucial back-to-school period leave reason to be concerned for the upcoming holiday season.?
Windows touch notebooks represented a quarter of back-to-school sales, propelled by huge price drops. More than 33 percent of all touchscreen notebooks sold were priced under $500 which dropped touch-enabled notebook ASPs to $646 from $715 in the first half of the year. Sales of Windows notebooks $700+ increased by 24 percent thanks to touchscreens and accounted for 14 percent of all back-to-school Windows notebook purchases.
?After a slow start following the launch of Windows 8 last year, touchscreen notebooks saw significant and accelerating momentum during back-to-school,? said Baker. ?The rapid roll-out of under $500 devices put touch much more aggressively in front of the key back-to-school consumer and created incremental demand. Even though the category has taken off, no one brand was able to exploit this new demand, with almost all the major consumer brands reaping sales benefits from increased exposure to touch.?

Gartner Predicts That by 2014, More Than 20 Percent of Government
Organizations Will Have Appointed a Chief Digital Officer

The development and implementation of digital government strategies is putting the government CIO
role under pressure, leading to the creation of new roles, according to Gartner, Inc. Gartner predicts that
by 2014, more than 10 percent of government organizations will have appointed a chief data officer and
over 20 percent will have appointed a chief digital officer.

?Digital government strategies issued in several jurisdictions during the past 12 months, as well as the
continued momentum of open government, are bringing new leadership roles to the fore,? said Andrea
DiMaio, managing vice president at Gartner. ?In government, as well as other industries, roles like chief
data officer or chief digital officer are emerging in response to the increasing importance of enterprise
digital assets.?

The newly created roles are likely to coexist with more traditional ones, like CIO and chief technology
officer (CTO), in the short term at least, necessitating a close working relationship between new and
existing roles.

?Government CIOs must establish good working relationships with chief data officers, chief digital
officers or equivalent roles introduced to support the digital strategy, and identify areas where they can
add value to a different role's responsibility,? said Mr. DiMaio. ?They should also push for a clear
demarcation between their role and the roles of others with regard to information by defining clear
principles about ownership, purpose and use.?

In the longer term, however, Gartner believes that the overlapping roles and the lack of a sufficiently
clear distinction about responsibilities on information management, together with a loss of emphasis on
and enthusiasm for digital and open government strategies, will inevitably lead to rebalancing those
responsibilities.

Speaking at Gartner Symposium/ITxpo in Australia this week, Gartner research director Rick Howard
said the most vulnerable role in this scenario will be that of the chief data officer, because the tension
between the internal information management focus of the CIO and the external focus of the chief
digital officer will intensify.

?The application of open data principles to data other than public data will give CIOs the ability to
regain a key role on driving the data architecture well beyond the externally facing remit of a chief data
officer. As a result, the chief data officer role is very likely to be subsumed by the CIO or the chief

It's funny how it looks like these guys keep coming back posing as legit "customers".

In my business we get a lot of these scam invoices.  The whole recorded telephone order thing, shipping toner and sending invoices, scam calls, etc. so I have a good eye to spot this kind of stuff.  Anybody should, it's pretty easy to spot.  Just do some quick research on the company if you never heard of them and they sound suspicious and I did that with this group and found a host of scam warnings.

Alerted AP and Accounting not to respond to or pay any invoices to this company.  Case closed.

The Day Group is a well-established worldwide scam that has been the subject of complaints in a number of countries. They send fraudulent invoices directly to "Accounts Payable". Inside, there is clearly an unmistakably an invoice with no other cover material to explain that it is a solicitation (sometimes that's mentioned in the fine print). At least in the U.S., they target their mailings to arrive around the Holidays when offices are usually semi-closed and understaffed, and when key decision-makers (i.e. people who would authorize payments) are likely to be out of the office.

The New Zealand Government has a copy of this scam on their website that also shows them attempting to solicit wire funds, the hallmark of any scam.

I do not know what you mean.

They want to tell the truth on these websites.

Does not everyone expressing truth do so in stilted language?

They have chosen along with some other aliases to post without using contractions.

Yet they cannot tell when not to use the word "there".

Sometimes they have more to say
but their right margin is so tight
the post looks like
noncompliant haiku.

This is important because it shows how they are professional and respected.

Thank you for your consideration.

What really makes me suspicious of these so called "testimonials" is the formatting.  I mean really, who types with 2 or 3 spaces between each line and spreads the sentences out over several lines.  Even if one person had the habit of doing that, what are the odds of 6 "different" people typing in the exact same manner, posting on different days, in the same thread?  Probably about the same odds of seeing GOD walk down the street before you die.

The Greenwich BBB does, however, provide a name and address:    2 Greenwich Office Park.75 Holly Hill Lane, Suite 100, Greenwich, CT 06831, 203-552-1478. Fax 203-522-1479.    The facility at suite 100 appears to be a "day office,"  The principle of "A. W. Day International" is variously described as A.W. Day,  J. William Day.

The only line I could get on one of The Day Groups pricey IT documents was a recent December 2013 "Worldwide IT Research" news letter.  The PDF document identifies the Publisher as J. William Day. (http://thedaygroup.net/WWIT%20Newsletter%2012-13.pdf)

I took the leading paragraph of the document as follows:

"The development and implementation of digital government strategies is putting the government CIO role under pressure, leading to the creation of new roles, according to Gartner, Inc. Gartner predicts that by 2014, more than 10 percent of government organizations will have appointed a chief data officer and over 20 percent will have appointed a chief digital officer."

and ran a Google search for the entire quote.    It turned out the entire  quote was from  an October 29, 2013 public press release from  Gartner Research. :
"New Digital Government Strategies Examined at Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2013 on the Gold Coast, Australia, 28-31 October
The development and implementation of digital government strategies is putting the government CIO role under pressure, leading to the creation of new roles, according to Gartner, Inc. Gartner predicts that by 2014, more than 10 percent of government organizations will have appointed a chief data officer and over 20 percent will have appointed a chief digital officer.

http://www.gartner.com/newsroom/id/2615319

It should be noted that Gartner requires quote approval before their material can be used by others.    I put in a query to "quote.requests@gartner.com" to see if such direct quoting by The Day Group was authorized.   No response yet.    Still, for what The Day Group charges for their news letter, you'd think they could do better than simply lifting quotes from free press releases.

Oh well,   if Gartner wasn't aware of the Day groups liberal use of their material, they are now.

Over all, if I got an invoice from The Day Group,  I'd seriously question its validity.

And, oh, by the way, an employ or affiliate (read SEO shill) posing as a "satisfied customer" is a violation of FTC false advertising  regulations.

I certainly feel like I've read these testimonials elsewhere, like they're all quoted from the same brochure. Yes, I'm sure the trial publication is "clearly marked"; it's the invoice format sales notice which blurs one's perception.

Here in August 2012 the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs plainly lists The Day Group on its own wall of shame, and handily provides a PDF copy of a Day Group "scam invoice". The "over the top" remarks you are protesting in this thread have described this sham bill quite accurately. It pockets promotional language within a table format closely aping a rather dull, routine vendor invoice, designed to catch some employee unaware.

DIA page - http://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Anti-Spam-Postal-Scams
PDF - http://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/Files/A ... ayGroupscam.pdf

Here an advisory from a Fraud Specialist at the UK's National Health Service lists the Day Group among "rogue publishers", again citing its bogus invoice.

http://www.wsh.nhs.uk/ServicesAtoZ/CorporateS ... OLOOKOUTFOR.doc  (MS Word doc)

"The Day Group (aka Azkit Publishing)

This company, based in Connecticut, USA, seemingly invoices NHS organisations for $5k for 12 months subscription to a business report. .... the ?invoice? which has an order number carries a disclaimer which says that it is a ?solicitation? not an invoice which is only payable if you take them up on their offer of purchasing one of their business reports. Again, this could end up in the pile for payment if not read properly."

No, of course it's "not an invoice", it's only dressed up to look like one, hoping to score a fast five grand on some inattentive office drone. The Day Group thinks it has a right to spam discussion sites and swindle businesses. I think we now "understand what is going on" quite well.

Nothing in this rather sudden spate of sunny testimonials "shows how they have dealt fairly", only that a business is desperate to bury derogatory comments on a site for discussing nuisance calls. So you're happy with the service? Then why are you here? You would of had to search the number on the internet. Clicked the link for 800 notes, and then posted a comment. If you're happy with the service, why would you search the number after the fact? People don't check the repair man after the work is done. I would have to mark your comments as "suspected shill". The way your post is written seems to highlight that fact.
