If you register your phone number with the federal do not call list they can not call you. Automated calls are especially taboo. There are some exceptions. People you owe money to, charities, etc. See the govt website for details, to register, and to file a complaint - https://www.donotcall.gov/. I was getting multiple calls to my cell trying to sell me a security system. Not just from one number but many. I ignored most but finally had enough. I filed a complaint about 6 months ago and haven't had a call since.

called July 7 2012 at 9:40 or so - a robocall with a recording about home mortgages. I could not disconnect - they camped on the line until they delivered the entire message preventing me from using the line.

Called and left a ROBO message about mortgages. I never heard of them, nor do I have any previous dealings. I thought such calls were illegal. Called ID said NACA.
