These people are Indian scammer/extoritionists working out of Indian call centers. Being criminals they ignore our do not call list. A call blocker is your best bet.
See: http://www.stopfraud.gov/report.html
They call again, tell them you know it's a scam and tell them to go to hell! They won't be expecting that response!

Of course, you're correct. They get names and contact information from online job searches so they know you're in a tight place and might be a candidate for doing something desperate. I get dozens of these calls weekly and I'm so sick of it. I've been on the 'do not call' list for sometime and I can't even answer my own phone if I don't recognize the number first. If I mess up and answer because I was expecting a call, it's always some rude person with broken English and I just tell them off and hang up on them. Raising my blood pressure is all I get from answering my own phone. Sad.

I also got the same fraud call. The tip off is the fact that they all have a foreign accent and not a one can tell you which agency or dept. of the US Government is giving you this money. All they will say, until they hang up on you is yes the government in Washington. You press any issue with them and they fold quickly.

I have asked this woman (who speaks English with a very broken accent) repeatedly to take my name and number off their call list. I have informed her that I am registered on the Natioinal Do Not Call List, and that I will report her (she hangs up). I am sick to death of these bi-weekly calls and am now making good my threat.

I received a phone call from 203-923-4781. A man with broken English, asked for me by my full first and last name. He said I was randomly selected in December of 2013, by the U.S. Government, to receive a $9000 grant. He said I was selected because I pay my taxes on time, which, I haven't even worked, or filed taxes since 2011, and he said because I have no criminal record, although, ( I have been on probation since May of 2013.) And played along and anyway, n said I wanted it cash. He told me to buy a green dot card from wal mart, and put $200 on there, and give him the info, in order for me to get the the $9000. Lol. Enough said. I hope people stop falling for these scams. Its sad to know there are innocent people who are naive enough to be deceived, and robbed for their hard earned money.

This number has been calling me for the last few days now. Once it was a man with very broken English asking to speak to 'the head of the house', the quality of the call was horrible and when I told him I wasn't able to speak at the moment the call cut off. The second time it was a woman with decent English but once again the quality was terrible and there was a significant delay in the call. I hung up. They have called multiple times since and I have not answered, twice they have left a bad quality message saying they are calling about a 'special offer'. I assume they are a scam, if they have not stopped calling in a couple of days I will have them blocked by my provider.

Your scamming callers do not maintain this site or this web page. No callers can magically determine which numbers should not be called based on anonymous comments. Criminals who mass-dial and violate the Telemarketing Sales Rule have no plans to stop calling you no matter what you say and regardless of your DNC registrations. They need first to be sued or jailed. Try reading before you post next time.

Similar to the other stories. Received a phone call--horrible connection. The woman spoke in broken English. She knew my personal information and told me to call Jeff Newman at (202) 657-4642 to collect my $9000 grant money since I hadn't filed for bankruptcy during the last six months of 2013. I could have put the money directly into my bank account according to her but I opted for cash. :-) In any case, I asked her for questions on how I would get the money and she just kept telling me to call her supervisor and provide the release number. I wonder if they get paid by how many people they scam and the release number identifies the caller. Needless to say, I'm not calling Jeff but thought I would get on here to warn others that this scam is still going.

Received several calls around tax season last year and again this year. This year I asked her why she had an American name and spoke as if she was from India. She hung up. Got called several days ago again from a different scam number and advised that this/my number is a FBI agents' personal phone. No calls since.

Just got a call from this number - it came up on Caller ID as "Luz Franco". They said hello, hello to my answering machine a couple of times then I disconnected the call.

The odd thing about the calls I get is, a few times a year for a few years they have called and asked for "Christie Winchester". Here's the odd part. I have 2 daughters, the oldest ones 1st name is Christina and the youngest last name is Winchester. That's scary. They are always very unprofessional, rude and you can not understand a word they say. This time he kept asking if I new what the government wanted and why they kept calling me. He said he was in Washington DC. Caller ID said Connecticut.

Something to keep in mind about all these continuing bothersome calls for surveys, so called charities, so called charity pickups, toll free numbers despite asking them to remove you from their list:
Call centers have sprung up in my town that make use of the survey and the charity loophole in the Do Not Call list. They have been a headache for law enforcement, emergency services, neighboring businesses and residential areas. When I ask any patrolling officer in town about these call centers, they are quick to state their frustrations about the criminal activity that some of these call centers have brought into the area. The city police, sheriff, fire dept, code enforcement, ambulances visit on a regular basis looking for outstanding warrants, responding to crime, drug overdoses etc. I have heard from frustrated employees that work for these call centers complaining about the drug activity, vandalism of cars and neighboring businesses, break-ins and theft, drinking while on the job, smoke breaks are actually marijuana breaks, drunk driving, very dangerous driving, tons of tossed out litter of empty liquor containers, trash, food etc. I?ve even heard that the mangers are also involved in criminal activities and have even preyed on their legitimate employees who are simply trying to eek out a living on horrible wages. Also the operators are untrained in a very high turn around, poorly managed, dysfunctional sweat shop work environment.
Also realize this when you call a companies? customer service line and get horrible service from the call center that?s been hired by the company. One time while on a call with our bank?s customer service, the operator was so loopy that it required ending the call and calling again to try and get someone else to help. Think about that when you call a companies? customer service and the conversation gets odd, off the wall and obtuse ? you may be talking to an operator that?s drunk or on something. After 6 months of getting a different and wrong answer to our ongoing problem each time we called our bank?s call center, we gave up and closed the account.
One of my neighbors owns a call center and he requires that his operators are bonded, but I guess there?s no laws requiring this ? there should be. Right now in my town it seems like anybody can start up a call center and hire questionable labor and criminals for cheap without much regulation.
