It IS ILLEGAL in Canada to use an automated dialer / play a pre-recorded message IN CANADA when the person receiving the call has not specifically agreed to accept it.

They are trying to get information on people whose number are not known to them. They are the secret police.
Gerhard 2012-03-20 14:05:07 Unknown
Same message comes from 647-694-0561, 647-212-3011, 416-628-0881.................and they all call me at a number that has only been given to President's Choice for their MasterCard, a card I've never used. Interesting.
Gerhard 2012-03-20 14:01:13 Unknown
I think you are on to something..............I only get these calls on the phone number I gave to President's Choice when I got their MasterCard (which I've never used).....last I looked, President's Choice Financial was operated by CIBC
Gerhard 2012-03-20 13:58:58 Unknown
No PODS, but I get these calls on the phone number I gave to President's Choice when I signed up for their MasterCard (which has never been used).

I keep getting calls from this phone number on my cell. I press 2 like they said so they wouldn't call back and they still call. I am not impressed. I have limited air time and I want them to stop.

Calling me at 3am. Stop. Calling me this number 204-2721392
Rob 2012-03-03 21:24:07 Unknown
Same here..on my cell! Been getting a lot of these type of calls lately. I also did not answer but they left a message... It is some sort of a recorded sales pitch - they ask you to press a number to proceed or another digit to opt out of them contacting you again...so the only way to do so is to answer the initial call, then press 7 to be taken off their call list

How many of you have accounts with CIBC? I have had my phone number for years and have given the phone number to only ONE place 2 years ago and that's CIBC.
And after I refused that stupid life insurance crap from them, I have been getting these spam calls. If this continues, I'm going to close my accounts and change my damn phone number.

Debt reduction scam. They left a voice mail asking to press an optional number for service or removal. Something has to be done with this scam. So many complaints already within a short period.

These immoral scumbags called my VoIP number that's only listed on my website, so obviously they're using spambots or buying number lists from spambot users. Their robocaller left a message about the debt-reduction crap. Filing a complaint with the CRTC - not that they seem to do anything about this crap, but I have to do something.
Pi**ed Off 2012-03-02 23:09:36 Unknown
Just received 3 calls in succession from this number at dinner time, and I do mean in succession! Only the 3rd went to vm - usual crap message left. Is this a new tactic, dial and redial a couple of times before vm kicks in?
Somehow these SCUM need to be taught a lesson!

they are working around the CRTC rules: https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/nrt-ntr-eng#link04
Automatic Dialing-Announcing Device (ADAD) Rules
Automatic Dialing-Announcing Devices (ADADs) are equipment that store and dial telephone numbers automatically. They may be used alone or with other devices to deliver a pre-recorded or synthesized voice message to the telephone number called.
ADADs may not be used for telemarketing unless the consumer has given express consent to accept an ADAD telemarketing call. This includes telemarketing via an ADAD that is initiated by or on behalf of a Canadian registered charity, for the purpose of requesting a consumer to hold until a telemarketer is available, for activities such as radio station promotions, or for referring consumers to 900 or 976 service numbers.
ADADs are permitted for calls when there is no attempt to sell, such as calls made for public service reasons, including calls made for emergency and administration purposes by police and fire departments, schools, hospitals, or for calls to schedule appointments.
A person using an ADAD to make permitted calls shall comply with the following conditions:
Calling hours are restricted to weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 9:00 am to 9:30 pm and 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) except where provincial laws apply to the specific type of call. The hours refer to those of the person receiving the call. These hours do not apply to emergency situation announcements.
The ADAD call shall begin with a clear message identifying the person on whose behalf the call is made. This identification message shall include a mailing address and a local or toll-free telecommunications number at which a representative of the originator of the message can be reached. In the event that the actual message relayed exceeds sixty (60) seconds, the identification message shall be repeated at the end of the telecommunication.
ADAD calls shall display the originating telecommunications number or an alternate telecommunications number where the call originator can be reached (except where the number display is unavailable for technical reasons).
Sequential dialing is prohibited.
Random dialing can be used to non-published telecommunications numbers, except to emergency lines and healthcare facilities.
Persons initiating ADAD calls shall make all reasonable efforts to ensure that their equipment disconnects within ten (10) seconds of the person receiving the call hanging up.

@FED UP with auto / robo diallers: this will not be legislated. why would you want to tie up our already pain-in-the-a**, do-nothing-for-nobody politicians? unless they are getting the calls on their own personal cell's they won't do jack.
there's lots of Freeware out there for robo-dialers. They've now found a way around the DNC list. they call up the telco, get a number, then run their app off a regular modem. when that number is cut off, they get another, or they have a dozen or so 'in stock' and switch out numbers as they get cut off. very very hard to stop. there's no way to filter it our either!! even on a company's PBX. there may be a way to block out numbers, but again if they callers rotate numbers, we're outta luck.
grrrrr.....
From Toronto 2012-03-02 16:00:22 Unknown
Have you tried pressing 1 and trying to figure out who they are and where are they located? :)
Then we will take it legal...

Yes, got a call on cell phone that went to voicemail. Debt Reduction solicitation. Autodialer. Robodialler. Nuisance - have to go and delete the voicemail. Made detailed complaint to CRTC on their website. In my complaint I said "auto dialer and robo dialers should be made ILLEGAL in CANADA. Please legislate this and make it illegal. Everyone is FED up with these auto dialler calls."

Called my cell while I was driving, so it went to voice mail. Started listening to the message later, and deleted. Googled the number and here I am. I have free long distance, so I called the number, but boo-hoo, all their accountants were busy, so leave a message, or listen to an info message. They give you the option of pressing 9, to skip the message and have your number removed from their phone list. Time will tell if it works.

At 3pm today i got a call from 204 272 1392. it was a recorded message telling me to push 1 for debt consolidation. I pushed 1, I got a sales rep on a scratchy line. I told this sales rep to put me on the internal do not call list.
At 4:38pm I got a phone call from 647-555-1212, with the exact same recorded message. I have the feeling these people have access to many numbers. If I get any more calls from these idiots i will file a complaint, but I think the CRTC is a paper lion

This number called me today for the first time at 5pm. I picked up and heard a recording say "Due to a national debt-producing crisis.." then I hung up.
