However, I was first contacted as if it was a legit sell through Craigslist.  Claiming it was for his son but then became wishy-washy.  I run a personalized phone case business out of my home and there is no way I am going to let the "shipper" come take a look. I'm not that stupid.

I became fishy about it all when he would never respond to me to tell me which product he was interested in.  He was only about sending me this damn check.

This scammer needs to go down!  This scam could really hurt someone badly.

Same message from "Ronald Barrett". Different phone-805-613-7639. Same fake check but I took it to "his" bank. Googled addresses, one a fake university in a For Sale office building in Ohio and the other in an abandoned warehouse in Califorinia. I lost him when I told him he would have to contact the Bank's Fraud Department to get his money and check back.

I'm sorry, but the only payment we accept is cash or Paypal.  We will not accept personal checks or certified checks. If you would like to pay through PayPal, I will gladly send you an invoice.

I hope you can understand, but if I accept a personal check, then I will be responsible for any fees on my account if it bounces.

The same guy did this to us, and yes we received a check only to have it returned as not a good check by the bank. Luckily lost only less than $15 for returned check fee by the bank. I think the guy needs a class action lawsuit pitted against him. The guy obviously needs to be taught a lesson before someone loses a lot of money.

The e mail they use to contact you first is never the same e mail as the follow up. Is there a way to report that to Craigslist about the second e mail?

I too received a bogus offer from this email for an item I posted on craigslist. I had a weird feeling about it so I googled the email address and I found it on several websites' lists of scammers. I have since blocked the email and hope this jack*** does not make further contact with me.

Did you notify Craigslist or any authorities?

I also recieved a check sent to my office today I called the Frankiln Pierce university and they told me to send them a copy of the check and then report it to the police. 603-899-4180 is the number for the Fianancial office.

I did't get a phone call, but this guy sent me a bank check from Franklin Pierce University for $2400 to buy a $300 scooter from Craigslist.  This is after I emailed him telling I won't accept a check.  I won't attempt to cash the check, but I'd like to know who to contact to bust this scam up.  I saved copies of the emails, and have the check in hand.  The emails are nearly identical to those above, but from Mark Williams hharry25@gmail.com.

We have an item listed on craigslist and got the very same message.  Looked fishy to us also so we did not respond and deleted the message.

Sam as above, and I now have a $2000 check.  Bank wants $5 if it bounces.  NOrthside Community Bank on teh check and RJB associates Inc of Lake bluff Il the sender.  both exist after a Google.  I'm schredding the check.

I was just almost scammed by this person too, lucky I found this site...So I backed out of the deal...I am not about to go to jail or what not for cashing a fake cashiers check or money order.

No way, I am freaking out we just got the same thing.  Now i am scared!  what do i do now?

2 differant people tried to do it to me, i recieved a check thursday and another one on friday, i knew something was up befor i got the check thursday, i tried to cash it anyway and they told me it was counterfit, then i got one from someone else on friday for a different item i was sellling on craigslist.luckily i didnt mail them the items.i think it was f***ed up that buyers name wasnt on check, the ups was shipped from a different state, the check was from a different state and they wanted me to send it to yet another state
