Not a scam, a guy called said he was from Regions fraud dept. I thought it was a scam so I took the number the 205-420-2800 he called from and the 1-855-662-8647 number he said to call back. I call Regions 1-800 number on my bank card instead and the rep. said they had a lot of number for the fraud dept. but she checked my acct. and confirmed the my spending limit had been dropped to $1.00 and checked to see why and confirmed again somebody had tried to use my card twice today. Once at a expensive hotel over seas and again somewhere in Canada for $2000.00. She said they realize I have a steady use on my card same thing every month same area so it was declined for them cause it was unusual. But I am so glad they knew. She said they will cancel that card and send another one out. And how who ever got my info. I have no idea.

Not a scam (at least in my case). I got a call from this number yesterday, they left a voice mail claiming to be from Regions' fraud dept., and left another number (1-855-662-8647) for me to call back. I smelled BS, so I let it go. THEN - I tried to use my card last night, and it was declined. I called the number on the back of my card (not the number the caller left me), and explained what happened to the customer service rep. She checked my account, and sure enough, there was unauthorized activity on my card. A website called help.real.com had attempted a $1 charge.
And before I get flamed by someone calling me a "shill" (and I know I will) - I checked this site yesterday, before I decided whether or not to call Regions, and you are the reason I came back here and commented. I have no idea what you could possibly stand to gain by telling people that the calls are a scam. The way I see it, you either work with the people who are trying to hack the accounts, or you just really need a hobby.
Reply if you want. I don't care, because I won't be back to read it.

I got a call on 6/19/13 and the caller did not leave a message and I did not think anything of it because it was an Alabama number....did not realize the importance of this number until today. However, I tried to use my debit card about 2 weeks ago in a grocery store and the payment was not authorized. I thought nothing of it because I was able to use it at the gas stations and restaurants. However, I tried to use the card this weekend for an online purchase and the payment was not authorized. I then decided to call my bank and was told that someone tried to use my card number at a walmart in Tenn on 6/9....I don't live near Tenn...and on 6/19 someone tried to use it Anchorage Inn. I was really upset and because I was unable to make my purchases, I was going to close the account and go to another bank because I should have been notified. Once, I learned the details, I overlooked the fact about not being alerted to the fraudulent activity and thanked them for catching the fraud before it caused any harm. It was embarrassing to go shopping for groceries and not being able to pay for them. However, I looked this number up, got this link and decided to share my story about this number. I did not call the number but the posts are very informative...thanks for sharing your experiences.

Too bad nobody here believes your B.S. shill.
Jessica 2013-02-27 20:13:39 Unknown
This is Regions Bank calling you. You need to call them directly to recieve information.
Jules 2012-11-16 02:50:55 Unknown
They asked me to give them my acct #, SSN, AND the # on my debit card, not the last 4 etc. Hung up giving NO info and called Regions which they said that was a SCAM. No attempts had been made to use my card, my account was fine. Was told I was her 3rd call @ the same 800 # and 205 #. Please be smart and do not fall for this scam!!

I just got a call from this number, and they stated that I had fraudulent charges, that they knew weren't mine. I know for a fact that Regions is not available on Sunday to confirm. People, don't go for this crap.

First I got an email from someone saying they are with Regions fraud department saying there had been suspicious activity on my bank card, and gave what appeared to be the last four of the card number which is not mine. I hesitantly call the number in th email, when I got to someone and informed them of what is going on, the person immediately asked for my entire card number. I informed he that I would not provide that because I am not comfortable with that, and that I can give the last four of the card they had listed. She said ok put me on hold and then then transferred me to the actual customer service line for Regions. I thought that was highly suspicious and called back to ask for a sup and the next rep said that they aren't going to go further with the call until I provided the card number. I informed him that was fine because I don't own such card number and that this would be reported to the proper authorities, immediately the guy hung up. BEWARE!!

How special for you shill!!
And you just couldn't wait to look the number up (on an unknown caller site) just so you could write all about it.
Too bad nobody here believes the B.S. - time to get another Magic Jack chump!!

Don't be fooled by the shill postings - the number is in fact fraudulent.
Fraud Squad 2012-03-22 21:16:13 Unknown
Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

Thanks, I did the same & verified with Regions & it is legit. They caught it before the worst could happen. Last year I was skimmed somewhere, probably a gas station & it took weeks and lots of bounced & overdrafts to fix it. Thank God they caught them now before anything worse happened! They didn't ask for ANY personal info...& I immediately called to verify the # & the accusations & it was correct someone was at BED, Bath & Beyond trying to use my debit #.

It is Regions Fraud, I called Regions to verify the number & indeed it is legit.
Robert Riddell 2011-06-10 17:00:38 Unknown
What are you highly upset about? That someone used your card or that the bank caught it saving you hundreds or thousands of dollars?
Robert Riddell 2011-06-10 16:59:34 Unknown
I'm willing to bet money that if you had listened to the person on the phone, they were simply calling to let you know that your boyfriend's card, identified by the last four digits (that she already knew) had been used fradulently and she was simply notifying you of that. I seriously doubt that they asked you for anything.
Robert Riddell 2011-06-10 16:56:36 Unknown
I got a call from this number this morning. The call was from the legitimate "Regions Bank Fraud Protection" folks who properly advised me that my Debit card had been used in a fradulent purchase and that they blocked the purchase, cancelled my card and I am getting new cards in the mail in a couple of days. The person on the phone did not ask me any personal questions, and was very professional. I called my local branch to verify and sure enough, my debit card had been cancelled and a new one has been ordered, just like the person said.
From reading the comments above, it sounds like some of you are harrassing and getting angry with the very people who are trying to help you. Perhaps you should do a little homework, LISTEN to what the person is saying and TAKE NOTE that they are not ASKING you for ANYTHING, just notifying you that they just saved our A$$ from a really bad time.
It is possible that bad people are forging the CallerID number and some of the posters above really did get fraud attempts, but if you are NOT asked any personal questions, then it is probably legit. I WOULD NOT trust any emails from any company though.
This number just saved my bacon, I hope if/when you get a call from this number, they just helped you out too. Cheers.

Called Regions and asked about this number. They said it was the fraud dept. and they did catch someone using my card. They person never asked for any account information. However, when I called the number back, it was the voice mail of a hispanic male laughing. I am very upset and confused. We cancelled our cards and plan on cancelling our account in order to protect our money. I am not sure what is going on or how my card number was exposed as it has not been out of my sight. Thats the world we live in.

Got a call from this number as well. Actually, an e-mail first and then I called the number. Regions always told me that they would never send an e-mail but the lady, Kenya, on the phone (who I received the e-mail from) was pushy asking for my social saying we have all these charges they have been blocking and we needed to close our account TODAY. Convenient it is on a Sunday and branches are closed but I told her what I thought about her calling, stopped the card myself using the real Regions 800 number, and will speak with someone tomorrow. Also, in the email it gave a number to call and says to push 1 then 2 and Kenya and the fraud department seem to be the ONLY people in the office today......interesting.

We IMMEDIATELY went to the bank within minutes of the phone call! ALL DEBIT CARDS were cancelled and now "our bank" has been alerted with the problem. I wonder how many others have been called by "this number" and did not report it? And "Anon", your post said something about Regions Bank. What does "Regions" and this number have in common, if any?
Confirm 2011-05-04 21:43:36 Unknown
Unless you have overdraft protection, they would be able to use your card regardless of the amount so not only would you be hit by the charge for whatever it is they bought, you would also have to deal with the overdraft fee unless you can prove you didnt make the purchase.
Never accept, always confirm! Call the number on the back of your card and confirm that this number belongs to your bank.
If it doesnt, ask if they can put a fraud watch on your card/account or ask them to close that particular card and send you a new one (might be a good idea any way).

Got a phone call from this number today. Said someone had tried to use our debit card in another area, but there wasn't enough money to cover it. The girl on the phone said she was with our bank! I am HIGHLY upset about this!
anon 2010-02-23 20:29:36 Unknown
This is Regions Bank fraud dept. They call to verify what may be fradulent charges. They have your account info already, they dont ask you for it. They just verify charges and cancel/re-issue new check cards if necessary.
Trey 2008-12-18 16:24:49 Unknown
They called me too... but the weird thing is that they did not ask me for my account number or anything. They said they just needed permission to cut my card off because of some fraudulent charges.
tiffany 2008-03-22 20:49:35 Unknown
we got a call from this number yesterday saying something about how they needed my boyfriends bank account number because of some kind of bank fraud!
