I hope you haven't tried to cash the check yet, it will turn out to be fake.  If you have, do not spend any of the money and contact your bank and tell them that you think the check may be fake.  If you have not cashed it, take the check, and any papers with instructions on where to send the excess including the envelope and the phone number that is texting you to your bank.  Ask to speak to someone who handles check fraud. Explain the situation and give them everything you have on this person and his accomplice.  Let the bank investigate and turn the information over to the proper authorities to get these scum.

Received a text from this number asking if my item on craigslist is still available.  He said his name was Eric.  Offered to give me $50 extra to wait for the check to be delivered. This check was $1640 more than the actual amount of my asking price. He then asked me to send the remaining amount via western union to the delievery company.  I should've looked up the area code. I knew there was something suspicious when he finally told me to send it to a Lee Davidson in Houston, Texas

Just today I received a text, also copy/pasted the Craigslist heading.  The person identified himself as Greg, said his "assistant" would mail me a check for $50 more than my asking price.  Then he would send over his "shipping company".

Who gives you more than your asking price??  And, if this was legitimate, he could always mail a cashiers check.  The whole thing stinks!
