I got a call from this number 3 times in 10 min. I called the number back and a man with a Middle Eastern accent answered the phone. He stated that he was calling from a lawyers office, I could only understand the first name of the lawyer,Matthew, due to the fact the 'receptionist' had a thick accent. I said " I just had three missed calls from this number in a matter of min., who is calling me."  The man stated " that I'm just the receptionist and I will have the person working your case call you". I said "No, you can transfer me". The man put the phone down, but did not put me on hold so I could here all the background noise. He whispered my first name only to the person sitting next to him. Then a man with the name 'Benjamin' picked up the phone. At this point I was truly irritated I said " this is the most unprofessional phone call I have ever been on, in my life. You have exactly 3 min. to tell me why you are calling or I am reporting this to the police as fraud". The man stated that I was "harassing him and he will call the FBI"...WHAT! you called me? He then hung up on me.

I immediately called back and the Benjamin character answered the phone and said " I told you not to call back this is harassment",  again hanging up . So of course I called back a third time and had the receptionist transfer me back to this man again he was VERY mad and said "I am sorry we ever called you and you will get paperwork in the mail, if you keep calling I will call the FBI"! I said " you go ahead and do that!" I have not heard from these people since and have yet to receive and 'paperwork' in the mail.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

It is a huge SCAM!!!! They have called me for the last several months, using different numbers each time. Tell them to send you the compliant via certified mail, per law and to supply you with their legal license information :) That really pisses them off, they hang up and block your number! I was suppose to be arrest 100 times according to them - yet I have never seen a police officer show up. They are scam artist criminals!!!!!!!

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
