This is a generic phone number for King County. It could be anyone in King County calling but it's true number is hidden under this 263-6000 number, so it may be legit but you would have no way of finding out exactly which number it came from.

I received a call and I didn't answer it. I had a message from someone I KNOW and she works for King County (I think transit). She was calling me from work, instead of her cell.

well I actually got a message. It was from King county van pool. But the number they gave me to call them back was a whole other number

It's a legit number. I got a call from them and it was ORCA (Transportation) Auto-Load Customer service, returning my call.

Ahhhh...it ALL makes sense now :)
I sent a driver commodation to Metro on Tuesday and the nice man I've had a couple e-mail exchanges with musta tried calling me as well as e-mailing me :)
He now has the info he was looking for, and I'll just disregard the call :)

As a King County employee - This is our generic caller ID for all of King County (Metro, Sheriff, courts, jail etc) and shows up on my caller ID at home with this even though my number starts with 206-684-xxxx or my fax line 206-263-xxxx. So complaining to the government will do you no good since we are the government. A courteous politician or staff member would leave a proper message and return number, those that don't....let's just say we have a**holes (some of them elected to their position by you, the voter) working here just like everywhere else.

I received a call and it was from someone at King County (a message was left) -- it looks like this number is the generic outgoing number, even though the internal numbers are all 206-296-xxx as John says.
Yes Andrew exactly.

Just got a call from them. Why is King County Metro calling me???
Barb 2011-06-06 20:42:03 Unknown
I have gotten several phone calls from this number the last few days
Andrew 2011-06-06 20:42:03 Unknown
Someone calling me about an accident that happened to some guy named bill, and somehow got my number, though I have no association with king county metro or any bill/william name at all. haha

I had a client call me and the caller ID left this number. I have his direct line, but I wanted to find out who he worked for, so I came to this website. Obviously, no one knew it, so I looked the info up in his file. End of mystery for all of you - it is a number for King County/Metro Transit. When you receive any calls from anybody at that number it provides the trunk # for the T-1 or T-3 or whatever telephone cable they're using. Hope this helps.

This is the King County generic exchange number applied to outgoing calls.

It is indeed a King County switchboard. My call was from their downtown Seattle office.

Got a call which I did not answer. I called back minutes later to identify the caller and the phone had been disconnected. Called back serveral times with the same response telling me the phone had been disconnected,

Received a call from this number to my cell today. It rang once or twice but stopped before I could answer. I'm not going to try calling it back as it may be a signal the the culprit that I have an active phone number. Isn't there a government watchdog agency that can put an end to this?
Jenice 2011-06-06 20:42:03 Unknown
It was King County Transit. It was a legit phone call.
steve 2011-06-06 20:42:03 Unknown
Got this call today as well. It's from King County, and in this case it was genuine.
k 2011-06-06 20:42:03 Unknown
Just like all the others... missed call. Redial from cell receives busy signal, from landline receives a disconnected message.

I get calls regularly from 206.263.6000. It is always someone looking for various people at the US Post office, in other words they have my number mistakenly listed as the post office main number.

Missed call from 206-263-6000. As with other callers, no voicemail or other message, when I called back got "number has been disconnected". It appears someone is using a very effective mask for probable marketing activities (since the number that they called of mine is not in general circulation). It is surprising that they have been able to use the "disconnected number" intercept for as long as it appears by the reports posted here.

Received two calls from 206-263-6000 to my cell. Tried redialing and could not connect. Called my wireless carrier and said the line may be a WATTS line that operates like a switch. The Operator said she received a fast busy to indicate an active line that had network overflow. Could this be wireless spam hiding behind a spoofed dialed number? Beats me, but one thing is for sure: it's annoying and disturbing how easy it is to get a list of cell numbers.

I received a call and it was from someone at King County (a message was left) -- it looks like this number is the generic outgoing number, even though the internal numbers are all 206-296-xxx as John says.

Get calls from this caller with just repeated beeps left on my message system.
John 2011-06-06 20:42:03 Unknown
I got a call from this number too... the caller ID that was left said "King County". As I understand it however, King County numbers all start with 206-296-xxxx so the caller ID was probably faked? Are the people complaining about this phone number in the Seattle area? I am.
Mike 2011-06-06 20:42:03 Unknown
Some idiot called our business and complained about the length of our corporate voice mail system and said he would not call back. ??? Why leave a message then? Tried calling it back to give him a piece of my mind and keep getting a busy signal. Some psycho I guess.
Chelsea 2011-06-06 20:42:03 Unknown
I also got a call from this number. They did not leave any voicemail or answer when I called back.
