Hello Everyone,

These calls/emails are most probably from a group of guys in Nigeria and/or Russia. The angle is as follows: they setup Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail accounts, from internet cafes in their countries, as attractive Male/Female "business people with pictures from little known European soft porn/dating sites. They use these accounts to befriend and start online romantic relationships with unsuspecting Americans. As the relationship blossoms, they suddenly have an urgent crisis in their lives whereas they need "help" from the American. It usually involves accepting some items, for their business, which is where these strange rural addresses come from. Then, with other accounts they have setup, they contact us, and place orders with stolen credit cards/fake checks or, they even get the American lovers to pay for the equipment/merchandise. The Americans think it's legit, because they have an online lover that they have this imaginary relationship with, and because real merchandise begins showing up at their door, being delivered by UPS/DHL/FEDEX: why would this not be real? So, they (the Americans) with there own money, pay for shipments of these items to go back to Nigeria or Europe, where another party picks it up, and either sends it to a fourth party, or it is sold/distributed to various vendors who don't care where it came from. In the end, the American is never paid back for the shipping or purchasing fees, and they are never caught, because the shipping ports usually have someone involved working there, so when law enforcement comes to see who picks up the merchandise, it just sits there, and after they leave, it "disappears". If the American lover boy/lover girl finds out about the scam somehow, they just find somebody else. FBI knows about it, there is not much they can do though. A similar group is running around in person stealing high end rental equipment from video houses like my company. They provide credit cards that initially check out, at least for authorization, until you find out that the charge did not go through, a few days later, and the equipment never comes back. Anyways, my point is, DON'T BE FOOLED. Here is what they sent me:

Obviously the people behind this are using the names of innocent parties to cover their tracks.

Just because your name is similar it doesn't mean this is you, unless you live at this address?

If you have been a victim of fraud and have had attempts on your card then I would advise speaking to your bank.

Be very aware, I have listed names and addresses in one of my previous posts. This is till going on.

Yep, I for one today, it's a scam, of course.

Probably the deal will be that the cards will fail, then they will offer you a cashiers check which will be over the amount, so you can send some money their their "agent". The check will be fake, and you will be out the money you sent off. The CC info was sent to make gain your confidence. That's my guess...

This is totally a scam.  A credit card is a non-secured method of payment. Even IF the cards are approved for payment (which they can be if your security thresholds are low and you're just going on the card number), later the cards will be found to be stolen, and you will get a chargeback. If they send you a check, the check will be no good. I don't know how these guys can exist without being found out. This guy has been doing this for months at the same phone number and email address.  BOTTOM LINE... never take a credit card as payment unless you know the party with whom you are dealing-- especially with higher priced items that have a real, hard cost to you or your business.
