SCAMMMMMMMMMM wanting to give me grant money to the tune of  $9200. I told them it was a SCAM calling from Washington DC and couldn't speak English so I could understand. So some other guy named SAM got on the line and couldn't speak any better. I told him his name wasn't  Sam and he said this isn't a scam. Seriously!! This is definitely a BIG SCAM.

They have called so many times from a 100-000-0000 number that i already am immune to this crap.
1) our government doesn't give money for free cause they want your life in return in the form of interest.
but any who i went along with the ride. I was told there is a confirmation number i have to give when i call back the 206-317-1478 number to which it is obvious it is as SCAM and our government which spends so much money on listening to our conversations can NOT or will NOT do anything to stop them or get them.

I got this call today from a lady who I could not understand . I asked her several qualifying questions such as:
who are you? how did you get my number? what organization are you calling from? what is the website? how can I verify my name on this list? Why is the government trying to give me money and want me to pay a security deposit for it? So I said take the deposit out of the grant money?  $9,200.00 she said please call her manager he will explain it better and give me proof I need. Oscar Perez 1-206-317-1478 ext.131( I forgot the extension number when I called, but got him any way answering the phone)   is the name of the so-called manager who was peed off when I asked him the same questions and he directed me to : mygovernmentgrants.com I asked .com I thought it was the government who was issuing this grant why would they have a .com address? he said why don't I believe him? I said it's too good to be true with a little masuganiggity mixed in. he asked me to call him back after I check the website. Instead I started searching for more info on him.And looky -looky what I found. You too. He also told me If I couldn't make up my mind he can take my name off the list. Oh whoa is me.

These people just tried to call my cell phone.  I almost started laughing because this woman's english was so poor, I could barely understand her.  I would NEVER call back because I know better.  I did not apply for a grant, therefore, I am no eligible for one.

How to recognize and avoid grant scams/fraud:
The Better Business Bureau offers these tips and suggestions:

YOU WILL NOT BE CONTACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO OFFER YOU A GRANT.
The government does not contact people to offer them money. If you do qualify for a government grant, the government does not request payment for it.

THERE ARE NO FEES ASSOCIATED WITH APPLYING FOR A GOVERNMENT GRANT.
Providing financial information to prove that you qualify for a government grant is typical, but you should never pay money to apply for a grant. People who run scams often claim to provide help and sometimes claim to be "federal government" officials, don't be fooled by these scams that request money from you.

ALL GOVERNMENT GRANTS INVOLVE AN APPLICATION PROCESS
If you have not submitted an application for a government grant and someone claims you have been awarded one, it's a scam. Grant money is not given over the phone for a fee. In order to qualify for a grant you must apply for the specific opportunity that you are qualified to apply for.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS ARE AWARDED FOR EXPLICIT OPPORTUNITIES
Government Grants are typically awarded to states, cities, educational institutions, nonprofits and other organizations to fund research and other projects.

GOVERNMENT GRANT APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION IS FREE
Be cautious of offers that ask for your personal information (especially financial) when requesting a fee to access grant information. You can always access free information about government grants and other benefits at Grants.gov and Govbenefits.gov.

Same deal - just got a call from "Unavailable"
(delay picking up phone, hang-up earlier today was probably same people).

The Govt wants to me $9200ish because I am one of 1500 people who've never declared bankruptcy or something like that.  Asking me to call (206) 317-1478 with a "Grant Number" they've given me.

This person I was speaking to was definitely in a call center because I could hear the myriad of conversations going on behind him.

I wish I had a throw-away cell phone so I could call and pursue this joke further without providing my cell number as someone dumb enough to follow up.

I received a call from an unknown caller, this time it was a female claiming she worked for the U.S. Government, saying I am to receive a grant in the amount of $9,200. She got my number through a telephone list during a survey asking if I had ever been bankrupt, my name and whether or not I work full time/part time or not at all. Gave me a number to call (206) 317-1748 to call stating that it was here manager number and if I wanted to receive the funds I needed to call that number. Well, I called that number and some guy just answered the phone saying hello. You would think that if it was a legit business or anything government, a person would not answer the phone by just saying hello. I asked who am I speaking with and he just hung up. I knew then it was a SCAM, people please do not allow these people to SCAM you. Don't give them any information! If it sounds too good to be true than 9 times out of 10, it is. Just thought I should leave this message for all others who are receiving phone calls from these type of people.

Why does the call come from Washington State and not Washington DC?  You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to scam people out of their hard earned money.

I received the exact same call today.  I think it's crazy for the US to have a federal student loan office in Canada.  I truly feel its a scam.   The lady that called me hardly even spoke English.  I haven't decided yet if I will call the number or not.  But something about this seems a little fishy
