Still being used in DC (georgetown ad), this is what they used in their ad:

Before Applying or Scheduling an open house appointment:

1. Request your free credit score.  Check Your Score Here
2. Submit ONLY YOUR CREDIT SCORE to our Fax :  206-350-2239
3. In the same fax also tell us what will be the best date for a meeting.
4. Request your contact info

I don't know about other cities, but you can check on the DC property assessment (govt) website to see if the address is even real.

Found this today in a craigslist ad for an apartment in Georgetown, DC.
Also listed in the ad was this link http://washingtonapts.co.cc/4871894189621.htm which redirected to

Definitely a scam. Found it on Craigslist NY today, advertising ridiculously cheap rental apartments in a *sales condo* building. They are trying to get your information.

yeah. glad i did not follow the link for the credit score and went to equifax on my own.

thinking it was really too good to be true. i started googling and noticed that in various ads for different cities, they actually use some of the same pictures.

though it was not until after i sent the fax that i googled the number. better that i caught this before giving them more info.

flagged the brentwood craigslist ad for los angeles.

I'm glad I found this site. I had a shaky feeling about this service and I have to say that my PC started to acting up after visiting their site. I hope there is no trojan etc. so I'm trying to sweep it fast.
I bet it is a big scam. I agree apartments in NYC listed there are too good to be true.
I will report it as well.

this is a scam. i found their site (or one of their sites) through NYC craigslist...http://apts-no-fee.we.bs/queens-apts.html

i went to one of the buildings in the listings and they said there was no way there would be an apartment that cheap there, and that they did not put up that ad and aren't working with this company. its a scam for sure.

It is a fake "credit check" company.  They post in Craigslist all over the US, under "Apartments by owners", and all apartments are far too good to be true.  Here in NYC they have apartments that would easily go for 5~7000 per month listed for 600 per month for example.  Once you fill in your personal information and put in your credit card details to pay for the credit check, they not only steal your identity, but keep on charging monthly credit checks to your card, and there is no way to stop them other than canceling the card.

i came across a great apt ad on craigslist with this number as the contact fax just an hour ago and this is in Boston. There was no realty company associated w/ the ad though so i guessed it was a scam.

googled it in and found this site, thanks y'all for confirming.

I found this Web site through Craig's List in NYC and, thank God, didn't follow their link
to get my credit score, but sent the # on my own.  The listings did seem too good to be
true and I never received a call based on my inquiries.  I want to thank you ALL for
taking the initiative to report this.  I'm going to follow up with Craig's List and the
Internet Fraud Center and also will let the credit unions know about this scam.

I'm now relieved I found this information before they might have called me for more
personal information.

This is scary stuff.

It's a cunning way for privacyplus.ca to rope you into signing up for their credit reporting services.

1) get excited about apartment listing
2) following their lead you need to fax your credit report to them
3) it's a great apartment and I don't want to lose it waiting for my report
4) sign up for their free trial so you can access your credit file online
5) give them your CC info (7 days free, they bill you $30 after that)
6) you get access to their website where they tell you that your credit report can be viewed online
7) their website is basically a list of links to TransUnion/Equifax's online request services. There is some BS about coupons for online reporting etc. Following their links take you to sites like TransUnion and Equifax.

Why does one need these guys, go straight to the bureaus yourself - they have free reporting

This number is also used in some suspicious ads on Craigslist at BOSTON. Same thing, asking for credit score with no contact info (just says "owner: Liz").

Something doesn't 'ring' true with the Albuquerque craigslist ad using this fax #. VERY suspicious & I wanted to report it.  There is no information or contact included.  They simply want my credit scores faxed to this number.
