More likely trying to trick you into switching electric suppliers. Be careful. More times than not the the cost is higher and there is a large fee to switch back. So yes, scammers.

This is known as a "Money box" scam. And it is OLD! I mean OLD! It's either (1) Dormant account (2) Soldier finds gold & wants to share with you (3) President of 3rd world country needs to get his money out, etc. they are all variations on Nigerian advance fee scams. At some point YOU will be asked to send money (for some reason) by Western Union (CASH) to get your "share". Of course, you get nothing but scammed. This scam is SO old, but greed still suckers them in.

Talk about irony. I called this # back and it said it was a service that could add my # to the no call list. But wanted me to verify my #. Not going to happen.

I dont know if there is a connection, but I seem to have started getting a lot more of these after coming back to Metro PCS. But I did carrier hop for awhile so that may have caused it too.

Receive so many robo calls from Deattle and the surrounding area that we no longer answer any call from this area or any call which has "Unknown" or "Unavailable" on caller ID

Robo call to a number that is on the national do not call registry - who monitors this stuff anyway? I give up

They most likely used a computer that dials all numbers in a given area code and prefix in sequence. There is no need to know who a given number belongs to for most of these nuisance calls. The computer doesn't care if the number is active or not, it just keeps calling in sequence but passes any live answers on to an agent who then runs their pitch to you. If they actually mention you by name, then you can start wondering where they obtained the information if you have never associated your name to your cell phone number other than to your provider.

I give my cell phone number to know one, I only have it for emergency use, I would like to know what data base these spamers are using to get their numbers from. They called my cell today. The GOV's .do not call list is absoutly use-less but I totally understand that. Both my phones are registered with the Gov and I have never in my life had so many usless phone calls that I receive as of late.I can block 200 number but I save that for the real pain in the neck calls. I won't answer the cell but to me this is an invasion of my right to be happy and content.
