Debt Collector
I received a call this morning from this number.  The original caller said he was "Jack Watson" with "State Department of Federal Credit Union."  He then transferred me to "Sam Patrick."  He claimed that I owed money to CashConnect and they are prepared to file an affidavit against me for three federal charges of (1) violation of federal credit union laws; (2) theft by deception; and (3) collateral check fraud.  They claim that I took out a payday loan of $435 with CashConnect last year and did not pay them.  Supposedly they sent me 17-18 email reminders, with no response.  They had my complete SSN, dob, references, driver's license number, etc.  He said that if I took this to court, my credit score would go down, my credit cards would be shut down, I would own $584 for the court case, $3700 for my bail, and $1600 for bail for each of my references.  But, there is an "OOCR" (out of court resolution) attached to the affidavit if I pay $589 now for the amount I supposedly borrowed and the affidavit processing fees.  He did provide a bank name, but when I tried to get him to tell me what the bank account number was, he said that he could not provide me any other information that is in the affidavit because he would be breaking the law by providing too much evidence prior to the filing with the court.  He said that my employer and the state would be notified about this affidavit and I needed to hurry because there is not much time left.

I started receiving these calls last Thursday.  They started with a "David Wanner" from "Coopers Law Firm" who called my office four times and my cell phone two times right in a row.  I was on another call so, he left a message for me at my office and on my cell to call him at 281-404-2057 about an important legal matter.  When I called back, "Jeff Scott" answered the call.  They claim that I owed money to United Cash Loans for a Payday Loan taken out on 3/10/10 and was supposed to be paid back on 3/15/10 and 3/30/10.  They claim they are filing the same charges against me and that I owe $519.63 with the affidavit processing fees.

I did a reverse search on that telephone number and saw messages like this and they mentioned contacting the FTC, which I did.  I have filed a claim with them and they informed me to contact my attorney general so that they are informed about this.

On Friday I then received another call.  This one was from "Rudy" at 818-338-2280 and he claimed that I borrowed $432 from CashNet on March 1, which was deposited at 4:10 pm.  (I checked my account and there was no deposit on this day).  He also claims that they sent me 12 emails about this and multiple warning letters were sent.  His claim was that they could not take out the payment without my permission (isn't that part of the loan paperwork?!).  He said that I owed $435 and they were filing the same federal charges against me.  He said that if I took this to court, I would owe $5545.00 for the court, fines, interest, and attorney.  He had all of my identifying information and an IP address for the computer he claims I used for the application.  He would never give me an attorneys name of who was filing the matter and was saying that he could not send me a copy of their affidavit or anything else.  He could only give them to my attorney and if I did not have one, one would be appointed for me.

When I did a reverse search of this number, I found complaints similar to this.  I called CashNet and United Cash Loans.  They both said that I don't owe them any money and that this is a fraud and sent me to their claims departments.  I was also referred to the Secret Service Department of the Homeland Securitythat is investigating these matters.  They say that they have heard from at least 2,000 victims.  They recommend that you contact the credit bureaus and notify them that you are a victim of identity theft.  You will also want to contact your bank and go over the options they have for fraud protection.

The Number ! thing is DO NOT SEND THEM ANY MONEY!!!  They will probably keep calling you, just hang up!!

Prank Call
I got the same call from the same number.  These people have called me on several ocassions using different phone numbers.  They constantly call my cell phone and work number.  If you've recently applied for a cash advance online, they get your information that way.  I inquired about all this when they were harrassing me about 2 months ago.  I reported it to the FCC and FTC and even the city I live in.  I also reported this to my bank and the 3 credit bureaus, because they had the last 4 digits of my SS# and my home address.  The calls stopped, but they started right back up last week.  Please don't fall for any of this crap.  They are trying to scam money from people.  DO NOT TAKE OUT CASH ADVANCES ANYMORE!!
