was called by this number, but hung up before i was able to answer. When called back said number was no longer in service. Googled the number to find that others have had the same problem. How is it that a number that is not in service, is calling all these people??

I called the number back and it said the number was no longer in service. Another time I called, it rang and rang. All I can say is, I'm not going to worry about it. If they need me, they'll likely call back. ;-)

This is clearly a rerouted number for state agencies in Washington. I just got a call from a collegue of mine who works at Fish & Wildlife and this was the number that came through on my mobile phone. Their numbers usually show up for me, so maybe it's because I'm currently out of state...

I just got a call from this number.  The caller ID said WA State Dept.  They left a voicemail from a man that said just... "631-4028 thank you".  I tried the (206) 505-4300 and got the disconnect message, then I tried the 631 number using both the 206 and 425 prefex.  Neither line went through.  What is this?

This number called me atleast 10 times last night from 8:30pm to 10:30pm and everytime I answered I heard "beep, beep, beep..." Then they called atleast 5 times this morning my fiance said and he got the same thing! So annoying! WA State Dept. is what appears on my caller ID. Then when I press *69 and it says "the last incoming call was from an outside caller...".

In state government in Olympia (or other jurisdictions), they have special numbers that they use when they call long distance, called SCAN numbers.  I just got a call, returning a call I had made last week, from the Washington State Liquor Control Board.  The person I called left a message for me.  So, I'm pretty sure its just a mask number of sorts when goverment offices call long distance.
So, if you receive a call from this number, it may have been from a governmental office.

Well don’t quote me on this, but I believe this is a "no reply number". It allows government agencies like DSHS, Public Schools, WA IRS, etc to have multiple out going lines used at one time, but only pay for a few incoming "stable" lines. Like if you call Google’s free 411 services (1-800-466-4411) to find and connect you to a company. The person that you reach on the other end will see a random phone number that they don’t recognize, and if you try to call it back it won’t let the call through.

It’s sort of like a mass email from a company like Wal-Mart for instance. At the bottom of the email it always says "Please do not reply to this email.... blah blah blah" You know that it came from Wal-Mart, but you have to use their main email to respond.

I use Google 411 all the time to call a cab, and it drives them nuts because they don’t know the number, but they know who I am, and if they try to call me to let me know that my cab is here it won’t go through to me.

How do I know this you say? Well DSHS called me to schedule an appointment on my cell phone, and I didn't pick up. Few minutes later Dshs called my home number from her regular line, and said "sorry I called from a back line, also used for computer only outgoing faxes, and it doesn’t come up right on caller ID". She knows I screen my calls.

I had this number on my caller id on my Verizon cell.  I googled to see what it was about.... "number is no longer in service..."  Freaky technology or Big Brother?? Happy Thanksgiving..

THIS NUMBER CAME UP ON MY CELL PHONE, BUT THE VOICE MAIL WAS FROM SCHOOL IN OLYMPIA.  THIS IS VERY STRANGE.  I AGREE WITH OTHERS THAT PERHALPS IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH GOVERNMENT PHONE NUMBERS

Got a call from a teacher in the Bellevue School District showing this number on caller ID.  I was surprised because the BSD phone system usually blocks their outgoing caller ID information.

I think the Phone System that WA State Goverment uses might have a misconfiguration somewhere that shows this as the outgoing number for some calls.  Or the phone system has some outgoing-only lines that it uses that have not been properly configured to block their caller id information.

This was a call from DSHS saying the scheduled an appointment.  Not sure if its DSHS directly becuase I got an appointment in Puyallup.. might be a call center responsible for appointment scheduling.. but I did confirm with DSHS directly that I had an appointment scheduled...

Rcvd call on cell at 9:40 am today. When I returned the call, I got "you have reached a number that has been disconnected or is no longer in service" recording. Odd...

I also received a call this am.  No message, called it back got the disco recording.

This is going to sound kind of odd but it sounds like it might be a re-routed number.  The voice mail I got was was from a Washington State Patrol recruiter that left a different # than the one shown on the caller ID.

Someone called from this number yesterday AM and presented themself as a L&I rep requesting some personal info from my Mom who is on L&I as of last month! The person hung up after asking series of personal questions. When called this number back, it has been disconnected....Someone please, should we report it??? This is really odd and scary.

Just got a call from this number on a company cell phone.  Caller ID'ed themselves as a Snohomish, WA County Public Works employee and requested detailed info on a piece of undeveloped real estate near where I live.  I didn't have the info they wanted.  They said they would keep calling other people in the "area" until they found someone with the info.

i got the sasme call but when i called back the lady that says its disconnected (recording) doesnt sound like the normal lady thats on  other phones  .. its like whos ever phone it is left that recording on there to fool ppl ?? i dunno maybe im wrong but it doesnt sound normal try it and then call a old number that you know is disconnected and see if it sounds the same.....

Got the call on my cell from this number. Called back and says not in service.

I got a call from this number on 8/25/09 and there was no message.  I tried to call back and it said it was a disconnected number.

My uncle just called me and told me to search up this number because he thought it might have been a pay phone or something important, But the same thing happened . he tried calling back and Disconnected. Thats weirdy beardy hah.

I got a call from this # which was actually the WA State Unemployment Department... it is a legit call, guys. :)

Got a call from a guy this morning claiming to be a police officer (from this number).  He asked for someone who I do not know and then wanted to know who I was.  Crap!  I gave him my name.  After reading these posts, my assumption is that the caller gets his kicks by harassing people this way. Oh, and he called my cell.

Called, did not leave message and when I picked up there wa a click and it huing up.  After a few minutes and the police didn't come running in, i checked this site.  It did say "WA STATE DEPT" onteh caller id.  Called back and "not in service".  Weirdness.

This is from the Northshore School District, I got a message on my cell saying if my child showed any signs of the swine flu to keep them at home. When they said to press 2 to confirm that I have heard the message, I pressed 2, and it said "that feature is not available". Weird. BTW i live in WA state.

This phone number is from the Community Service office. If your child has state medical and your review is due, you get the call.
