Also, there is no "cell phone do not call list," there is the general Do Not Call list and any home phone or personal cell phone can be registered to it.

I did some research and found out, no, it is not illegal for a telemarketer to call a cell phone, but it IS illegal for them to use an automated dialer to call your cell phone.  This did not technically use an auto-dialer.  But If you pick up a telemarketing call and you are greeted by a voice mail, and the voice mail does not state the name of the business, then it is illegal.  Also, the caller ID is supposed to state the name of the business placing the call, and people on this board who got these calls on a home phone reported that the number does not state this.

It is also just poor business practice to intentionally call cell phones and this company is not following the law anyway.  Some folks with cell phones like me get charged for that call.  I got a new cell phone number recently and it is clearly in a cell phone exchange because it is of the format (###) #0# - ####.  Phone numbers with a 0 or 1 in that position are all cell phones unless they were ported over to a land line at some point, which is rare.  Suffice it to say, I registered it on donotcall.gov right after this phone call.  All my phone numbers through the years have been registered with DoNotCall, so I'm not used to getting telemarketing calls.

I still don't know what business placed these calls and it would be great if someone who got this call pressed "1" to speak to a rep and asked for the business name so we can fine these guys.

Unfortunately it is no longer illegal in US for telemarketers to call cell phones. Legally, there is no recourse. The only thing to do is not answer, if you do not recognize the number. There is the cell phone do not call list, but this is not something that is enforced. It would be almost impossible to do so.

Call was placed to my CELL PHONE.  I answered it and it sounded like some company trying to sell me home security services.  I pressed "1" to speak to a person and the person answered sounded like he had an Indian accent.  I got incensed and told him calling to a cell phone to telemarket is illegal and he basically said OK.  I hung up without getting the company name and reported them tot he FCC.  But without the company name, it might be difficult to fine this company.

I called back this number and pressed "1" to speak to someone but it went to voice mail after a few seconds.

Please stop calling my cell phone; it cost me money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
