Same thing happened. It was an Ann Arbor listing. Sounded way too good to be true, and it sure was. Asking for my social security number before I even saw the place....come on!

Yes, this phone number was listed at the bottom of an email response I got from the supposed owner of a rental home in Irvine, CA. I emailed interest in a home listed on craigslist. The email response wants me to fill out a credit report at a link included in the email. Seems shady to me, so I am deleting it and moving on. Glad I Googled this number. You just can't trust anything anymore!

I got the same exact email in response to a real estate ad in Minnesota. When I saw the out of state phone number, I started investigating. Something just didn't seem right.  Someone has already flagged the post for removal. Thanks for posting this. Its so hard to find legitimate rentals these days.

Got the same deal from a listing in Indianapolis. Went into the website, and checked it's validity, which came up okay. Just worried that he got my information. Sheesh

Same thing here....daughter found this ad for house rental in Beaumont, Texas that was cheap!!  Luckily she forwarded the email (same as those listed above) for me to complete credit application.  I kept wondering why it was sending me to a Credit Reporting Company so decided to wait and do it today....That site has since been deleted so red flag went up.  I googled Scott Dickenson of Newland Realty and found this site..... I called the number and too got a message from "Joe".

Gonna tell my daughter to notify police.....such a shame people prey on others this way....Just get a real job!!!

Was this regarding a rental listing? I almost fell for it too.  Can you tell me if the rental listing is regarding Stanley Newberry? Also, was the listing in Los Angeles or somewhere else?

Same happened- saw a craigslist post that looked too good to be true ($975 for a 3 bedroom in West LA is ridiculous) but wanted to see if they were actually serious. Asked a simple question (not even about seeing the apt) but rather about the move in time frame. Got this response:

Hi Jessica.

Not trying to waste your time and mine, but I have three stipulations for anyone interested in renting from me:

1. NO criminal background history
2. NO bad rental history - meaning you broke the lease and stopped paying. (missing payments is alright, thats why there are late fee's, etc.)
3. Leave things in as good or in better condition than when you moved in.

Now, as stated in the ad, I will need you to go to this link: http://creditapplicationform.info/credit_report.php and fill out the credit report. If your rental history checks out ok, then I will give you the address and lockbox combination so you can checkout the place.

Thanks,
Stan Newberry

Ditto listing in Boston! The funny thing is I'm moving from Florida and nobody at my work knows it and a guy I work with just showed me the same post for a place he was looking at locally. Guess I better start the search again...

So glad I googled this number. Going though the same thing. The area code made me question and he did not give me enough info to the questions I asked to want to give him my info. This is January 2013 and he was tryin to rent an apartment in Huntsville Alabama so as to why I was questioning the Washington area code. Also he was advertising one beautiful apartment but had two of his four photos were kitchens that looked totally different. I was confused by this. Not trusting this guy And not responding back except maybe to tell him I think he's a fraud.
Oh crap!

This same thing happened to me in Houston, I am afraid that the link provided in the email, although takes you a legit credit report website, is able to be intercepted thus giving "Stan Newberry" all the information needed. Thoughts on this?

So I got the same "standard" message.  I returned his message with the following...LOL

Hi,
You did waste my time!
1. You gave me a fake website that my company intercepted.
2. Your phone number belongs to "Joe" who leaves some "general message" about "the apartment", when I inquired on a townhome.
3. I googled your name and phone number, in which you came up on all kinds of websites as a scam artist.

Yeah I got the same response. Whenever I respond to craigslist I use a disposable email account, and I clearly say in the email to respond to a specific question or I will believe they are a spammer. Stan failed the test.

I got the same message.

Never give out information to a computer like that! There are so many people to show you properties, that it is unreal.

Also, when it seems like a deal that is just too good to be true, it is normally a scam.
