I decided to mess with them and give some crazy answers, as well as act like a non-english speaking senile old man when I spoke to a live person.
A week later, I got a call from 1-888-842-2495 telling me I won a cruise. I just had to pay for airfare to florida, as well as US port taxes. Just give my credit card number, and I'm in paradise. Obviously not trustworthy.
The good thing is that they are charged every time someone calls them at a 1-888 number, especially from canada. I've setup my fax machine to constantly auto-dial them all day.

The auto-dialer will keep calling you back if you don't submit any answers. You can screw with the system tho, it's just a computer like any other system, and can be taken advantage of.

To avoid being called back, press 1 to start the questions, then spam your 0 key (zero is an invalid response to all questions asked, however the programmer didn't build in the ability for the system to recognize you've entered an invalid response) until it hangs up. Now that you've submitted a response, the auto-dialer will kick your number off and you won't get more calls (at least for awhile)

You may need to repeat these steps if you are getting the same call from different numbers. The companies who run this scam have to relocate often, so your number might end up being recycled.

FYI - DNC lists are only relevant to the country you reside in so if you are in the USA and you register with the DNC, only American companies can't call you.

How these companies know not to call you is by downloading the DNC for the USA and running it against their call database to scrub any numbers.

Where this falls down, is ANY companies outside the USA don't have to follow these rules. So they DL the DNC and use it as a calling list (cheeky eh?)

Don't sign up for DNC, unless you want tons of calls from overseas offering you crap you don't want or need (or will ever receive should you be stupid enough to give your CC # over the ph.)

This would be in the "harassing" category. Those are unwanted phone calls. With unwanted emails, you can block an email address if it bothers you. What can you do about unwanted phone calls? It appears we cannot do much. I was hoping my phone service provider can help me block this number, but it does not appear to be the case. I am NOT going to answer the phone if it calls again.

I answered all the automated questions to get to a live person. Without a hello, I was asked for my name. I asked the guy, firstly I want to know the name of the company I am dealing with. He said: " Answer Solution". I asked to be taken off their calling list. He told me to hold for a moment and I was disconnected.

I've been called 7 or 8 times over the last few months but never answered calls from this number, and they've never left a message. Got a call from another number in another state tho, and they left a message about the Carnival Cruise and survey thing. So annoying.

You can file a complaint with the National Do Not Call list - they can not have a message only.  You must speak with a live person and verbally accept their recorded message... no exceptions!

A girl that used to work for me actually took the offer. She did the whole survey and got to go on the trip. She had to pay her own airfare down to Florida (naturally) It was a time share (of course) and she had to sit through a three hour sales pitch. The "ship" was a piece of junk and nowhere near what anybody in this century would consider a cruise ship. So this isn't exactly a scam just a really annoying bad offer.

It appears that this telephone number belongs to a Verizon New England customer. I am currently trying to find an email address to somebody at Verizon - once we find 1 address, we can flood them with complaints & hopefully they will take notice and investigate their customer's abuse of the telephone system.
