I applied for a small student loan and was rejected. I have no late payments, no outstanding debt, and good (or so I thought) credit. As I came to find out, CBI had told the credit reporting agencies that they were trying to collect a bill from me for an ambulance ride for someone I've never heard of or met. This had been on my credit report for 10 months and they never tried to contact me.

I called the ambulance company and they said that they were trying to collect from this person's father and that they had no idea where CBI got my name and information.

I called CBI and explained all of this to them and then they proceeded to jerk me around, deny that it was their fault, becoming increasingly dismissive over the course of several calls. Eventually, they agreed that it was their fault and that they would correct it with the credit reporting agencies in three weeks, which is not acceptable. This is 100% their fault and has nothing to do with me yet they face no consequences for costing me not just peace of mind or a credit score but also issues with my school and my daughter's health insurance. It is their obligation to fix this immediately because their incompetency or greed or evil-ness or whatever had serious costs for me. I'm not even asking for them to compensate me for the harm they did. I just want them to fix what they did to my credit score. But they can't even do that.

Looking at these comments, I have to wonder if this is just how they do business. There's a really sleazy-looking large law firm that I see advertising all over town. I'm wondering if it would be best to contact them and see if they'd be interested in causing all sorts of trouble for CBI.

Someone who said her name was Jennifer called the office that is on record as my place of employment and asked how much I made! I was told she was extremely rude and unprofessional. Sounds like an angry, uneducated, minimum wage moron.
After reading all these posts I am nervous about what they are plotting in regards to me.
I have no idea what they are trying to collect! I have never
Recieved a phone call or any mail regarding any collection
effort!
Excuse you "Mike" and "opinionated" who wrote that BS attacking people who are obviously stating

You are fortunate that you haven't faced struggles in your life

I used to have a collection with CBI years ago. Turns out my roommate at the time did not turn in her keys at the end of our lease (i had turned in my keys, reminded her about the final day, and i moved out only days before lease was over and finalized). I was her co-signer so after all was said and done, i was sent to collections from the reality company. The closing bill was about $550, but after it was sent to CBI it racked up to $1350! They threatened to garnish and continued to call and send notices. EVERYTIME they called or aent letters, I called them as well. They were fed up with me (haha) because i continued to tell them i would make payment on "friday". I knew i couldnt afford it, my own fault for not being honest. Anyway, finally i decided to make payment arrangements. $50/ month, believe me that was almost impossible some months, but at the time i didnt have a family to support so it made it a bit easier. Took me a couple of years but i paid them.

Just received a letter from them from a bill for Cable One, who assured me that as long as i kept contact and made payments i wouldnt be sent to collections. I kept up my end but they still sent it to CBI. Called CBI, not sure how to word this properly but the lady was sooo rude! She was very pushy and continued to interrupt me. She just as quickly threw in the garnishment card. I told her to transfer me because i refuse to talk to her. She hung up! ( o but it must have cut off during transfer...what bulls**t!)

I get that CBI is able to work with people sometimes and they are just doing their job, but seriously some of their representatives need to stop with the attitude!

They are a bunch of low life/s who lack customer service.  Betty is whom I talked to trying to figure out how much and what bill this was.  In my explaining I told her there was a confusion because I had been paying another bill collection agency thinking it was them.  The other is called CDI of whom I have no complains only thing is I have been double paying them, but oh well my fault.  I was frustrated and irritated with CBI for transferring me numerous of times with out telling me.  I had to repeat my story three times so yeah there was a tone in my voice already.  I hate cold transfers.  MS or MRS replied with "that is not my problem and your wages are going to get garnished."  I said "I understand that I am just f*ing confused," she proceeded to call me names and behaving like a mad person.  Honestly there is no need to be rude so I asked her why she was being rude and calling me names and her reply was "because I don't want to talk to you"  Needless to say I calmly hung up the phone and just told myself no need to let her ruin my day anymore.  My mother just passed away and coming back to this is not good.  My wages will get garnished and so this bill will get paid.  I really hope and pray that this company closes down.

I have contacted these people to stop having their computer call me (which is illegal without my permission, which they never had, because it is a cell phone).  The first time they hung up on me after asking me to hold a moment with another recording.  The second time the guy who answered the phone refused to believe I had already paid the debt and that his actions were breaking the law.  He further stated that it couldn't be illegal, because he is doing it.  Which is quite the interesting logic.  I wish I had recorded that call.  Anyway, I do not owe them anything and they are still harassing me.  I really hate this company and it's people.

Sadly, rats exist, and pest control appears to be a necessary evil.

Somehow, tenants are righteous when they skip, and holding them to account requires a scumbag. No mention in any of these posts about how it happens that these innocent souls fall victim to unjust abuse ...

I'm an evil, greedy landlord who is tired of subsidizing housing for morons who can but won't get their life together because it has never been a requirement.

We fat cats never have any difficulties of our own - death, disease, job loss, accidents, etc. We just sit on our behinds and prey on the unfortunates. OMG.

You're absolutely correct! Kudos to you! Word of advice (just from my personal experience) I know you are paying the minimum that they are allowing you to because I did the same thing. However, I was being charged more in interest than I was paying off the principal amount. I thought my debt was almost payed off but unfortunately I had just dug myself in deeper. Good luck! :)

My situation is an extenutating circumstance. I was working at Dillards while  I was going to school. I had worked there for almost a year when I came in one day only to be called in to the store manager's office (Tommy Burnett). I was in his office along with the Men's Department manager at the time (Katie Dobson). I was seated and asked if I knew why I was brought in. I had absolutely no idea. I had a "Dillard's Dollars" card thrown at me from across the desk.

[ At the time, that is how Dillard's handled returns when a customer had originally paid with cash. Customer's were given an "in-store credit" and the amount was put on a Dillard's Dollar's card. When handling a return with no receipt and when it was paid for in cash, the department manager needed to be called to approve the return. The manager would then sign off on the register receipt paper that they had approved the return in case there were any questions that should come up later. So one evening while working the closing shift in the Men's Department at Dillard's, a young man came in with two pairs of name brand jeans (Lucky and Silver) in a Dillard's bad. He didn't have a receipt and had paid cash for them. As you may have guessed, I called the department manager at the time, Katie Dobson, to approve the return. She did and had me put the amount on a Dillard's Dollars card.]

In response to the managers' question, I politely said, "A Dillard's Dollars card." They asked me if I knew what was on it. I had NO idea. They accused me of knowing exactly why I was in the office and why I was in trouble. I wasn't given any information at the time other than I had "falsified" a return. They told me I could tell them the truth or spend Easter weekend in jail. There was nothing to tell other than what I have stated here and was escorted through the store by two police officers. I was immediatly terminated and humiliated.

The first week in June I was served with court documents claiming that I was being charged with petit theft. I called an attorney right away. This happened to be Guy Hallam with White/Peterson. Their office is located by the Idaho Center.

Several agonizing and grueling months later Guy presented me with his findings. Long story shot, the young man who had returned the jeans had actually stolen them from the Men's Department and pretended to be "returning" them. His girlfriend actually worked at Dillards in the Men's cologne department!

So, he gives the Dillard's Dollar's card to her. One day she decides to "purchase" clothes from the Junior's Department. She wore large sized clothes and I wore extra small/small. The items she had were bigger sizes and when she was caught, she claimed that I had asked her to buy them for me on HER lunch break.

There are alot of unanswered questions and missing pieces of this crazy puzzle but I AM going somewhere with this story. ;)

So, Guy Hallam with White Peterson was working on my case. I was billed for every little phone call, piece of paper, etc. The bill quickly added up. Because I was unemployed at the time as well as going to school, I had absolutely no way of paying off such an exceeding bill. My agreement with White Peterson was that I would pay $30/month, interest fee as long as I payed on time and never missed a payment. I held up my end of the agreement....

After two years of nothing coming out of the case with Dillards (other than proving myself INNOCENT [funny how the system works, right? Isn't is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, NOT guilty until proven innocent?] ) I learned that Guy no longer worked for White Peterson so White Peterson wanted their money. They wouldn't uphold the payemtn agreement so I was turned over CBI.

I was NEVER notified that I was being charged interest until Adam Edwards notified me about a month ago. After five years of paying CBI, I thought I was almost done but my interest charges were more than my principal balance! Mr. Edwards was very informative and I completely understood that he was doing his job. HOWEVER, CBI itself lacks in communication skills. I keep very meticulous records and files on everything I ever get and there was missing information that CBI claims they sent me.

Bottom line, keep awesome and detailed records. Keep a file on everything you get from every phone call, to who you spoke with, payments you have made. Ask for receipts and copies of everything. You may have to call them in order to get things taken care of but it's worth the time.

Good luck!

You know, you say they won't work with anyone but when I first starting paying, I was paying $90 a month.  The woman I was working with insisted I pay that much.  Mr. Edwards, the one that a lot of people are complaining about, took over and has worked with me so that I am only paying a fraction of that now.  I am losing my job so what little I do make, I want to spread around to continue to pay my bills. Just because I'm losing my job doesn't mean that I shouldn't still pay my bills.  I OWE that money.  Not paying it just makes me more of a bad person than any bill collector.  We need to stop treating these people like scum.  Maybe you people should stop racking up bills you can't pay!  Honestly, instead of fighting, next time they call, ask if you can pay less than they are asking but reassure them that you WILL pay, just pay what you can. It isn't a hard thing to do.

Seriously protect yourself, this is not a normal collection agency. I have never had any company be this aggressive and abusive. I was a bill collector for 3 years and I am aware of the protocols for dealing with clients on the phone. When this company contacted me they were giving me orders and they were really mean. I completely froze and had a lot of anxiety because of how they treated me. I am on a very limited income and the bill they had received was a medical bill from Primary Health that insuance was suppose to pay. I informed them over the phone that it needed to be resubmitted to insurance. I never heard back, instead they got a judgement against me and my 200.00 bill is now over 900.00. I learned that if you dispute a bill you must submit it in writing, simply stating it on the phone is not enough. If you want to file a complaint for how you are treated then you need to record the calls and keep time and date. This company not only got a judgement against me, but days before Christmas they are trying to take me to debtors court. I researched what this means and what they do is they get your banking info so that any money that goes into your account they take. They also sell off all your stuff in your home through an estate sale and take any vehicle. This is NOT a major bill, this is NOT some parolee trying not to pay back a victims fund, it is a simple citizen that lost a job and insurance didn't pay 200.00 to Primary Health. Oh and yes Primary Health once your bill goes to collections refuses to see you again no matter how little the bill is, this means that the only avenue you have is to use an emergency room which raises your debt and overloads the medical personnel there for real emergencies. Do what ever you can to get them off your back, not because I think they should be rewarded for bad behavior, but because the law does not protect those that are simply in hard situations. In several states people are being sent to jail for debt and there are many articles accusing bill collectors of abusing the court system, Mark L. Clark falls into this category. Honestly had they been nicer to me I would have paid them months ago, but after dealing with them on the phone they went to the bottom of my list of people to pay.

You are a pansy and a whiner. It takes several months before PH sends an account to collections. You probably had plenty of time to get your insurance situation resolved. You worked collections for 3 years & froze when asked about a debt you had been billed for for 3+ months? No wonder you are now jobless. BTW... you can go see a real general practitioner or go to a Saltzer Medical Group location or a St. Als Urgent Care. There is no longer any kind of debtor's prison, hasn't been for decades. You are ridiculous.

They sent me a letter, something about a debtor's examination hearing "at which time you will be required to provide your financial and banking records, employment history, and tax returns for the past 3 years to determine why you have refused to satisfy the Judgment." is what the letter says.

I was looking through the paper in the legal section a while back, that Mark L. Clark is involved in a bunch of cases, suing a bunch of people. He reminds me of a vulture. A vulture with wolves (judges and courthouse people) as friends.

I deal with Mr. Edwards on a monthly basis. You know what is the biggest surprise? There is a debt, I am paying it and they are happy. I have never had a rude call from these people. I did get one call and I called them back, set up the monthly payment which by the way is very small and everyone is happy. There is no reason to be so angry with these people. They are just doing their job and if people would just pay their bills and keep them from going to collections, they wouldnt be in this situation in the first place. Many places will be very cooperative if you just try and work with them. Dont be so mean because of something you did.
