They called 4 times. The 3rd time I answered, but they had hung up after the 2nd ring. The last time I picked up in time, and was told by an operator that the call would be recorded, and I was then put through to a ringing line.  I hung up, but was alerted by a friend that there was a scam like that going around.  Good thing I hung up!

These people called and asked for just my husband.  They wouldn't tell me any information and were very serious about my husband calling them back.  Melissa told me "he will know the number" and "he needs to call me as soon as possible."  She was almost like a "girlfriend/stalker" in her tone and refusal to share any information.  I googled the phone number and found MANY reports of the same behavior.  I'm sad that people are spending their days scaring the public.  I called her back and asked her if she was proud of her job and if she felt good about trying to scare/scam people.  I hope something happens to her/her company.  They have called 4 times in the past week and need to be stopped!

A woman of clear english called to say she had to contact a person named Cindy Burnell or something like that and that I was listed as a contact reference for finding her from a certain town I had been associated with of which she preceeded to tell me that she really needed to contact her and I said I didn't know anyone by that name and only worked in that town but never met a Cindy at all. She continued to push me into finding this Cindy person under urgent matters and I repeated what part of I DON'T KNOW THAT PERSON DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND...then I hung up realizing it was a scam. On my caller Id Diversified Col and 209-858-3500 was listed. So I did report it to the fcc.gov as directed in comments below on this web site.

called and said it was very very important that they get a message to so and so that lives at an address down the block from me.  Funny thing is, no one there goes by the name he said...and that house had sat empty for over 10 years, until just very recently.  For every question he asked, I asked one....and gave him no answers.  Nor did he give me any.  I told him unless it was a family emergency, I didn't need to telling my neighbors anything, and why is he calling me anyway??  I also told him, well, since you have their address, why aren't you contacting them via mail?  He said he was with DCS services, but wouldn't say what they do.

They called me awhile ago. Asking for my address, being specific to streets, house numbers etc. asking for my neighbors name and their address as well. Kinda peculiar, my home phone is unlisted, after they seemed to get what information they could try to get from me, the lady just hung up. Such an odd thing to happen! Seems a bit annoying to me.

I received a call from 209-858-3500 asking for me by my maiden name, which I have not used for several years.  My husband took the call and when the caller refused to answer questions, he hung up.  I called back and was put through to a voice mail.  Not sure what this is about, I don't think I have any bills that went to collections.  Reading the posts though, I wanted to clarify in general that that there are databases that can be legally used by debt collectors that will tell them the names and phone numbers of neighbors and family members and a common debt collection practice is to call neighbor/family of a debtor as a way to track down or verify how a debtor can be located.  A somewhat sleazy practice, but legal in many states.  A smart practice is to never give out any information about anything over the phone when you receive an unsolicited call from someone you don't know personally.

209-858-3500 called and asked for a person I do not know. Tole them so and to quit calling me. They then called my neighbours to terrorize and violate my privacy. The name of the caller was given as "Kay Sutton" with "Direct Collection Sservice, INC." Never heard of them.

this is a collection agency that called me concerning a third-party.

I stated my phone number and stated eight times :
"Put this number on your Do Not Call list, This is a cell phone. Do not call me again."

I said NOTHING more. She is a professionally trained debt collector trying to weasel ANY information, but she did not consent to comply with my request to discontinue future contact. I reported this incident to the Federal Trade Commission.

They will call you about your neighbor, friend, co-worker, or family. Do not give them any information.

Received a call this afternoon from these people... missed the call and called the number back. A woman answered, I asked her what company she was affiliated with. She said she couldn't give me that information unless I told her who I was. I told her I wouldn't give her that information until she told me who DCS was. She said she wasn't "allowed" to give out that info. Extremely strange. It's worth mentioning I don't owe any taxes or outstanding debt...

Sounds like you work for DCS...

However, you are correct these debts are real...

CALL THE VA Dept of Taxation (Or whoever you owe) and resolve it with them directly.  DCS is shady and harassing (even when you are legitimately trying to resolve your debt).

Just a shady collection company..

This is not a scam...DCS is a real collection agency.  They collect for the Dept pf Taxation for the state of Virginia.  If they contact you, DO NOT talk to them.  Just go online to the VA Dept of Taxation website and call them directly.  They will work with you while DCS HARASSES PEOPLE.

I had a minor income tax return not filed from 2000 (just didn't file it) but VA actually owed me a refund that year. I spoke to the Dept of Taxation and they were nice, just told me to download the forms online complete the old return and fax it to them and they would clear the debt.

A week later, DCS called me and harassed me to pay.  They said they didn't care if the debt was cleared with Virgina they wouldn't receive that information for 30-90 days and I needed to pay them immediately or they were filling a judgment by the 31st of the month and they would garnish my wages AND take the money in my checking account. She was ignorant wouldn't listed to anything and kept going back to we can set payments up now to prevent this from becoming a judgment in a couple days...you need to pay this now, you need to pay this now.  I told her I could fax a copy of the return and a letter from the VA Dept of Taxation (the people who hired them) showing I didn't owe anything and SHE JUST KEPT HARASSING ME, so I hung up on her because she couldn't be reasonable.

Her name is MELISSA COOPER -  CONTACT VA DEPT OF TAXATION DIRECTLY AND DO NOT GO THROUGH DCS!!!!!

A man with a Spanish accent called and said they were collecting for State taxes in LA, but their agency was in CA.  I knew right off that this was a scam. I had already paid my state taxes and he had reported the wrong amount to me.  This person became very rude and billegerant as I proceeded to acknowledge his scam.  I called back 2 days later and they kept putting me on hold.  I never gave them my personal info.  Thank God!!

Received a call from this number asking about someone he claimed had lived at my address at some point.  However, I have been in the apartment for over 4 years, and no one else in the apartment building by the name he gave for a similar time.  He knew my first and last name, and my address.  Feel sudden need to check my credit report.

If you recieve a call from DCS Inc. looking for you, then you probably owe money or someone you know does. Dcs's job is to find you and to give you the "opportunity" to resolve your debt before it moves foward against your SS#. Say for instance you owe state debt, then the state you owe to can LIEN your wages (not garnish-which has a cap) & bank accounts for the full balance without you ever being notified. Now if you resolve the account with DCS, you can avoid these ramifications. For verification puposes you should probably check out DCS's website... http://www.performantcorp.com/businesses.html and if you still don't believe what's going on, you should probably call the original creditor-such as the state they are collecting for and they can verify for you as well. Honestly if someone called me telling me that I owed them money, regardless if I believed them or not, I would research it myself-better safe then sorry.

They called me and claimed to be the US Attorney General. Oddly enough last time I checked that guy spoke clear, decisive english. I could hardly understand him and when I pressed him for his bar number he started cussing at me and every other word out of his mouth was f*** this and f*** that. He told me I was mad (crazy) and then gave me someone else's personal information to include, SSN, Name. Bank Info, DOB, and email address - at that point I couldn't contain myself and started laughing at him. He got more angered and threated to show up at my house and hurt my family. I am a law enforcement officer and was smart enough to record the entire exchange. I called back the next day and said  nothing, just played the recording! I haven't heard from them since. I turned all of the information over to the Secret Service being that they have a special unit for this kind of thing, as well as the US Attorneys office whom also has a special unit for this type of crime against individuals. From my understanding the incinuation that this terrorist was the US Attorney General is a federal crime, furthermore the threat against my families safety in an attempt to obtain money is extortion. Both can have these people locked up for some time. If you get any of these calls RECORD them and turn them over to a local secret service office - they will route to the proper place. Also be sure to turn over to yours states Attorney's office. As the case grows these terrorists will spend a long time in jail. More importantly if they happen to be out of the county and are having these calls routed through a US area code, as some do, they are going to have additional charges filled! NEVER give them your information, if they already have it they are fishing for the one missing piece to be able to cheat you out of everything, they will even go as far as asking you fax them something authorizing them to remove money from your bank. NEVER verify the information that they do have, tell them that they are wrong and as I said before RECORD it all!!!

Furthemore, I live in VA and if anyone attempts to call you they will call you from an 804 or 540 number being that those are the only places that VA debt collection offices are. They DO NOT hire out for the purpose of debt collection. Also if ANYONE tells you that they are calling from the STATE of Virginia you can be certain that they are a fake - Virginia is not a State it is a Commonwealth and all employees of the Commonwealth refer to Virginia as just that - The Commonwealth of Virginia.
