Living in San Antonio
I had to say hello twice. Female called asking $75 for children during the holiday season. I said no. She said "How about $15?" I again said no. That instant she hung up.
Calls, never answers back when I say hello. Must be a scammer
It's apparently a computerized type of wireless call and will continue only if it hears the right kind of answer. There are statistical ways to determine the likelihood of someone donating just by the way they answer the phone - i.e. gender, inflection, length of answer, general tone, certain "vibrations" that indicate anxiety or annoyance, etc. I SUSPECT these calls continue ONLY if the "right" type of answer is provided when you answer. I talked nicely for a few minutes then explained that I was one of "those poor veterans" he was talking about as I am now legally blind due to my service in the first Gulf War. The poison in my system causes severe back pain, difficulty with balance and coordination, and it has affected my vision such that I can only see to about 20 inches. That's certainly better than nothing, but it's still a long way from seeing normally. Anyway, my point is that he kept asking me for money even after I told him I have no money and I'm barely surviving now because the DoD refuses to acknowledge the Gulf War Syndrome's neurological effects on tens of thousand of veterans. It would be too expensive to treat everyone, so - as we have done since the times of the war for independence over 200 years ago - we just say kind things about veterans but (except for a few lucky ones that get into a special treatment program) we refuse to provide the treatment they (we) really need to live some semblance of a normal life. So that's a long way of saying that either it's a scam, or it's a hired party who gets a percentage of everything collected. Either way the call apparently couldn't care less about veterans; he/she just wants your money.
Call && dead air , no one speaks !
Just got the same call and my intuition says SCAM alert. There is an organization called the American Homeless Veterans, but I suspect this is some sort of dirtbag scammer who keeps at least 90% of what he might con people out of. In any case, I'm on the Do Not Call List and if he were legitimate, he would not be calling my number.
Like always, I reported the violation to the Do Not Call List, filed complaints with state and federal authorities, called my Congressman's office to complain that we don't have effective telecommunication laws, and blocked the number on my phone. These crooks are making our phones virtually useless and I'm doing what I can to put them out of business. Hope you'll join me.
Says he was with the American Homeless Veterans....and kept asking me to donate money.. i kept saying no and he kept pushing ...so i hung up on him. seems rude to call and hang up....Dont call them back...I think its a scam.
says wireless caller on caller id and they hang up...wtf.
