I got a call yesterday and it scared the hell out me. The scammer wanted money. He said his name is David Marshall from the Feds saying I owe money to IRS. I wish the federal govt. would investigate these types of calls and prosecute these scammers.

Same message, different officer. Calling from IRS, I owe money to Federal govt, pay or the will issue a warrant for arrest. If I hang up, police is on the way. They had my phone and address.

I got a call and voicemail from these a$$holes yesterday. Unfortunately it freaked my wife out. Said there was a federal complaint from an officer Michael Black and that I needed to call back in 30 min else they would send police to my home.

Just got a call from this number. He tried putting on an 'American' accent. The name Thomas O'Brien and the accent did not match at all. We are planning to let the local police know.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

I got a local California number 818-825-4690, saying that they are calling from Ventura county office and I have three federal charges and are issueing an arrest warrant in 30 mins. I was asked to call this number 210-424-2344 and speak to office Thomas O'Brien. He started harassing me saying I owe about $3000 in federal taxes and I need to pay it immediately. I was bit shaken by their threatening. My wife heard them and told that this is scam and we checked on google to find lot of folks have complained about them. They wanted the debit card info. I cut the call and informed police.

Got the call @ 7:18 AM local time.... saying cops are on the way and - threatened me that citizenship will be cancelled and passports confiscated. They said I owe some $2500+ in fed taxes.
Told them this is BS and to send the cops over and they hung up. Called up local police and they gave me an option to file a report with FBI (got the local FBI number form them). This is total harassment!!

Thanks for posting this!!. I got a similar call. Different deputy name and a badge number. When I called the police, they said no one by that name and badge number existed in that department.
This is total scam and should be reported to your states attorney general if you get similar calls so that it stops and innocent people are not victimized.

This caller should try a job as a comic. The VA State Police ranks do not include the rank of "deputy". Arrest warrants do not need to be "legally notarized" as they are already legal documents. (What is illegally notarized? lol) Call back within 20 minutes or a cop will be at your doorstep left on an answering machine? roflmao. And a member of the VA State Police calling from a Texas number? Such a comedian.

called several times " this is Deputy Marshal?. I am calling u from Virginia State Police Dept. Now, the nature of my call is In reference to in my department we have received legally notarized arrest warrants your name and your identity? and right now there are 3 allegations for criminal arrests for you. Call me back on my department number and notify yourself.. after 20 minutes if I do not receive a call from you I will send a cop at your doorstep to arrest you. Don?t try to disregard this message
When I called them back and told that I m going to report this to authorities, the guy started shouting abuses.
every 3-4 months, these scams happen. strong action should be taken againt them. caller 210-424-2344 extn.#6033

Another "real professional" notice -- {u}, {notify yourself}, {send a cop}, {allegations of arrest}, and a few others. Florida has a state highway patrol, not a police department.
Mars 2013-07-30 22:05:26 Unknown
here is the message I received verbatim....this is ridiculous!
this is Deputy Steve Austin ?. I am calling u from Florida State Police Dept.

They will ask for money. Just ignore the calls. There are several threads about this scam under different numbers.

Caller left message stating there is a arrest warrent against me, provided his phone number and wanted me to call back. This caller also called me few months ago with a different name.
Meme 2013-07-30 17:23:18 Unknown
I just received this call also. Called back got and answer the first time. Subsequent calls went to voicemail or says line is disconnected. Called and confirmed there are no outstanding warrants. I would like to know the reasoning behind this scam as they did not ask for money!!
Tony 2013-07-30 16:21:30 Unknown
