South Florida. No one speaks when we answer, and the phone disconnects. Again and again this number shows on our caller ID. Have reported it to the govt since we are on the do not call list.

If this is a welcome call they can leave a message, I have had so many calls from them.  In this day and age leave a message I am not just picking up because someone calls, you have to leave a message and I will decide who I speak to and why.

Called the citi fraud dept. They tell me that this IS the banking side of Citi. He also called it a 'courtesy call' He recommended I call 800 627 3999 which I did.

The woman who answered there, professional and efficient, transferred me to the phone banking department. They apparently needed additional information from me. I made it clear to them that the calling was fine but the not leaving a message was completely unacceptable.

The final agent that I spoke with(and yes, it sounded like an offshore branch -- but that's the way of modern global businesses) was under the impression that messages should have been left. I assured him that was not the case. The personal data requests -- ss#, debit card/bank account numbers, security code -- is all part of their current phone verification procedure.

All in all, the reason for the call was appropriate. I think the lack of message though, is what makes this scenario so distasteful.

This will come as great news for everyone above.   As of April 15 Citibank has decided to STOP making outbound welcome calls to clients who open accounts.

Does anyone have a way to get back at these people? I tried calling through my regular Citibank accounts, and didn't get anywhere. This does seem borderline criminal on their part.

I just openned a checking account and they keep calling. I never answer because I read all of your comments. What really upsets me is the fact that it's from India. I mean I'm a foreigner so I really hate when I have to speak to somebody from India or any other foreign country (there's an IBM call center in my country and I don't approve that) because I don't understand them! This is America so I expect to talk to Americans when I call or get a call from an American company!

Same thing.  Call center in India, takes forever to get them to talk when they do pick up, which is a bit of a crapshoot.  Have asked several times for them to discontinue calls of the "welcome to your account" nature to no avail.  Getting ready to cancel account.

I got a call from the same number and I also just opened a citybank account. I went to answer and noone was there. Last night I got a phone call on my home number and I never even gave them my home number. I am going to log into my account and change the number to a fake number, which I hope will help... I will report back if there is no change.

Sorry, modem/network out and back pain leaves for poor follow up. Citibank called (message left on machine) again later that Monday. A nice lady from their Research Department acknowledged the issue and offered her number (in Texas) and asked that I contact her if I wanted to discuss it. She said she understood if I did not want to call. She added the account was noted. I may call as I can (the long distance number) if only to tell her about this link on the net that might better inform her about the 'issue'. Also (FYI?), when banks with National in their names allow for such issues you can contact the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in Washington, D.C. Contacts:
800 613-6743. Email (you will have to fill out and sign a form and mail it in to them for their involvement): Customer.Assistance@occ.treas.gov Internet site: http://www.occ.treas.gov/new.htm. They are very professional and 'user friendly'. One time (if memory serves me) I could not get a bank check cleared (the local branch wanted me to wait the week). One call to the OCC and they told me of a regulation that allowed the bank to clear it THAT day. If something can be done, they can tell you about it. Note: They will want to know if you contacted the bank involved first. No ambushing here. Very professional as I said. The telephone only rang once (two rings and a hang up without a message on the machine) this week and I don't think it was Citibank. VICTORY (and thank you for listening Citibank), I hope. And so it goes.....

They called again today. I was home and got the call this morning. Another 'courtesy' call from Citibank. A pleasant fellow from India. I asked WHAT was the courtesy. It was about added services for one of my daughter's accounts (which he could not go into). I asked if there was any problem. He said no. I explained what has been happening and said the calls to our home are not appreciated. Calling on a weekend and leaving no message is not appreciated and so on. He said it would take 30 days to remove our number from the 'list'. He was very sorry for any disturbance. I said a supervisor I spoke with on Saturday said it would take two. And so it goes.....

I get calls like this every week. They ring twice (our answering machine setting) and leave no messages. NOW they are calling on the weekend. My back is killing me and I am waiting to hear from two doctors. I am in bed and hear the phone ring. I hear nothing. I go to the machine to check and hurt myself more only to find there was no message. I dial Star69 (which doctor called?) and hear the number of my last incoming call was 210 677-3600. I called it and heard it was a 'courtesy' call from Citibank (WHAT COURTESY?). It tells me to call 800 627-3999 with any questions. I call and get New Delhi and when I ask why you called me, no one knows. I ask for the American side and get Texas. After I am identified I start hearing the balance in one of my accounts. I say I didn't ask for that information and she proceeds to speak louder AND over me saying that is what the prompt asked for (but ignore me). I say you know what let me speak with your supervisor. She (now) gently asks why? I say because you gave me information I did not ask for (it was private and I could have been on an open line) and when I questioned it you proceeded to speak louder and over me. She laughed (next time I guess I will not respect someone's question and provide an answer) and said OK, sir. When she said the supervisor was on I asked if she would stay on the line with us. After hearing that she asked her supervisor if she could disconnect. She was told yes. I asked the supervisor why did you do that? I wanted her to hear my comments. The supervisor said she would note the issue and file the complaint. I asked for the representatives ID number and was told she closed the notes so I can't see that now. I asked what location she was in and was told Texas. I thanked her and found out she was in Texas too. I said this is not the first time I got this reaction. I am not sure if she was controlling, or had an issue with men, but I have mentioned this before and been apologized to about it and am not going to stop dealing with my bank because of it. Also, we don't need ALL such telephone service contracts going oversees, do we? I said I felt her reaction was not professional and inappropriate. I don't feel I have an agenda and don't appreciate the conflict. Now, my business.
I told her what happened with the call. I asked why did Citibank call me? The supervisor asked if I had opened a new account, or had unusual activity on my credit card. I said no to both questions. I added that if I did, I did not give permission to any vendor, or bank to bother me on the weekends about it. She told me that department wasn't even open (yet an auto dialer is set to call people at home, on the weekend and about WHAT). I asked her if she would handle both issues, or if I had to write a letter about it. She assured me should would and added my number would be put on a list and not called anymore taking effect in two days. I asked her to understand my position and how I felt. I was upset and this was poor timing. I did nothing about the other calls, but this was too much. She was gracious and handled my call well. TO: Citibank,
Please keep your commercials telling us to relax and not worry about money ONLY to harass your Gold customers at home, on the weekends by telephone. You are giving me another reason/motivation to dump my land line and I don't need you to decide that for me. Leave us alone. On top of it I spent long distance (from New York) to go through all of this nonsense AND one doctor said he kept hearing my number busy and the other called much later ALL because I was concerned about any problem with my bank. By the way, why doesn't the auto dialer ever LEAVE A MESSAGE ON THE ANSWERING MACHINE?

I'm an Alien :)  {well from Australia anyway}
and whilst I was in the states opened a checking account with Citibank so I could access my cash as I travelled...  big mistake!  I can't believe how many times they call me, and the times of day - as I'm 17 hours different to California (where I opened the account), then end up calling me at 3am & 4am :((
They never leave a message... I agree with police3317 - I wish I had their home numbers!

I just noticed that I had a missed call from this number, but no message was left on my voicemail. It does make sense for it to have been Citibank since I've had a checking account there for a few years now and just recently opened a new savings account as well.

This number has been calling my home number at least once a day, every day for the last few weeks.  My husband and I used to get VoIP hosting from some company, and after we switched we started getting calls from this number and two others - Texas 214 area code, and California 213 area code.  We suspect that our old VoIP provider sold their customers' numbers, ours included.

Received a call from this number after opening a citibank account. Caller wanted to up my credit limit. Called citibank customer service afterwards to verify that this came from them. Customer service told me that this is their welcome call.

Caller had poor English and asked for personal information.
