Microsoft never ever calls anyone to tell them about malicious viruses or anything else that may be related to your computer.  If you gave them information, time to scrub it clean and check to make sure nothing funny is going on with your finances.  These guys are a joke.

Got a call from this number about my dog who has been missing for three days. The man on the phone told me he worked with an organization that would help me find my dog for a fee of $130. I live in austin and this is a San Antonio area code so I asked if I could call him back at this number. He gave me a different phone number to call back that began with 702, area code for Las Vegas. And every time I asked what the organization was called, the connection on his end would get fuzzy. It sounded like a scam.

Received a call from this number this morning, Nov.27. Man with heavy Indian accent....lot of background noise sounding like a bunch of people with Indian accents doing telemarketing or whatever.  Man tried to talk me into going to my computer and pressing the windows key along with the small r. He said I had a serious problem with my computer and he is going to walk me through fixing it.  I knew right then something was fishy. I kept asking him questions about his identity. He told me if I give him the license number of my computer he will be able to prove that he is legit.  I knew that was bull too. When I wouldn't go along with he told he's putting his supervisor on the phone.  He was also Indian with heavy accent. He tried to pull the same crap.  They were definitely trying to hack into my computer I'm sure.  What's unfortunate is that some dumb sap that falls for anything is going to fall for this and end up seriously screwed.  My caller ID read 'TRANE'. When I mentioned this to the guy he said he was a private company that windows hires. What bull.

Received an automated call from this phone number saying there was a hold on my debit card for security or fraud reasons, please hold to speak to a representative.... They didn't say what bank or company they were calling from and so I disconnected. I have only one debit card, called the bank and they did not have anything noted in my account, no holds/ comments that would have been there if the fraud dept was checking anything and no record of any phone calls. She said they had been getting phone calls for the same reason from other people but my bank would typically send me a text message and not an automated call if there was a problem, so that i would call them back instead. This seems to be a total scam.

Will not receive any for a long time then receive 3-4 calls a day every day for 2-3 weeks

I act quite concerned and ask them to give me more details without me being at the computer (file names etc) yet they never comply

It seems my computer got infected after I tried to download some pop songs for my daughter. The most aggressive software is Hotshield, plus some other mp4 download softwares. Then I saw this phone number after a month I found funny things with my laptop. Are there related? If so, that's really a scam. Disgusting! I'd  rather reinstall then pay them.

Called British Columbia Canada at 8:20PM claiming to be some computer service center.  "Calling about your Windows Computer"  Then I hung up. I have strung them along before just to see what their tactics are.  when they told me the address to go to I googled it and muttered out the search results. "..the second result says comput scam" the guy says click the first link. I wouldn't.
When can we get a monster virus that we can have them 'help us with'?  I'd be happy to set up a dedicated PC to treat them.

A gentleman claiming to be from an energy supplier wanted me to confirm which company I use for my gas & electric, today, Saturday 22 September 2012 at 11.42 am
Whilst he was talking, I looked up the incoming telephone number on google and found your website. I could not understand him clearly and could not catch the company he was saying he represented but insisted he was calling from London.
I refused to give him my energy suppliers details but kept him on the phone for 8 minutes until he chose to end the call, stating that I was wasting his time as he had other customers to telephone, I replied with "that's okay, I was only reading the newspaper".

agreed that they are a nuisance and a waste of time, but stupidity isn't a crime, just yet.

the root of the problem is cheap phone service.  first of all, it costs them next to nothing to make thousands of calls with an autodialler setup.  the operators are either paid peanuts or even less, on commission.  so the fact that they only "score" on a very low percentage of calls isn't going to force them out of business.

since there's less and less money to be made in the (landline) telephone business, and more and more small competitors, ma bell isn't policing the market anymore.  the network has gone "public", with no effective enforcement of the rules.  that's why this kind of operation isn't shut down the instant they start spoofing their callerid information.  (guess why the number isn't in service when you try to call back.)

and the "do not call lists" are just a bogus attempt by the politicians to cash in on the frustration of the public: not only is the list not enforced (or enforceable), but the politicians have exempted, among others, political parties and their fundraisers, right up front!  (somebody forgot to mention that they have no jurisdiction on calls made from OUTSIDE their country, as the worst of these seem to be.)

people unfortunate enough to have signed up for the "do not call list" seem to be getting even more calls - some telemarketers, operating outside the country,  seem to have gotten their hands on it.

so far, the only effective way to fight back is to programme one of the newer panasonic answering machines to hang up on numbers that are known spammers.  it's great because the phone doesn't even ring. (it would be convenient to be able to download lists of number directly from here to the phone, by the way.)  but that will only last until the spammers start rotating, or randomizing,  their bogus callerid numbers.

A lady with an indian accent "from Microsoft" just called me at work, told me to look at some error events. She only referred to me by my last name, tried to guide me to a website (which I didn't log on to) called www.malpha-something, I didn't get the rest as I couldn't understand her accent anyways.  I hung up on her.  She could not hear me, there was a lot of background noise, and she kept telling me to hold.  I stayed on for a bit, and got mad that she wasn't hearing me.  She kept saying "Right?" and referring to me as "Ma'am".  I haven't tried to call the number back, and she didn't call again.  I immediately emailed my office manager to install some anti-virus on my computer.  She told me that someone is trying to hack me and wants to steal my identity and credit card information.  It was just very suspicious although I did get very scared at first.

These guys are morons and criminals. No matter how many times you demonstrate to them you aren't falling for their scam they continue to call and to tell me that my computer is filled with viruses. Auto-dialer or not you would imagine they would be taking notes and opt not to call back since every single time that they call I tell them to go to hell and to stop bothering me but the calls continue. Honestly, the guys deserve long, hard jail-time. They're criminals with no moral code.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jul/18/phone-scam-india-call-centres
The scam always starts the same way: the phone rings at someone's home, and the caller ? usually with an Indian accent ? asks for the householder, quoting their name and address before saying "I'm calling for Microsoft. We've had a report from your internet service provider of serious virus problems from your computer."

Dire forecasts are made that if the problem is not solved, the computer will become unusable.

The puzzled owner is then directed to their computer, and asked to open a program called "Windows Event Viewer". Its contents are, to the average user, worrying: they look like a long list of errors, some labelled "critical". "Yes, that's it," says the caller. "Now let me guide you through the steps to fixing it."

The computer owner is directed to a website and told to download a program that hands over remote control of the computer, and the caller "installs" various "fixes" for the problem. And then it's time to pay a fee: £185 for a "subscription" to the "preventative service".

The only catch: there was never anything wrong with the computer, the caller is not working for Microsoft or the internet service provider, and the owner has given a complete stranger access to every piece of data on their machine.Matt, a Londoner who has recently set up his own company, had just arrived home at 7pm when the phone rang and someone with an Indian accent asked for him by name, quoting his address. "It's Windows tech support here," said the caller. "We have reason to believe that there's a problem with your computer. There have been downloads of malware and spyware, and they're slowing down your computer."

A woman called me from this phone number. She said that she worked at Microsoft.
She had received a report from my computer. It was mentioned that my computer would be infected with virus.
The woman offered me that Microsoft would scan my computer on viruses. There was much noise in the phone connection. Her voice was hard to understand. There were many voices in the background to make me believe that she called me from a callcentre . But when I told her I did not believe that she worked for Microsoft, she quickly hung up...
Do not believe such calls !!
