just got a call from a 212 number. i answered and it was a gentleman with an indian accent who said that it was a federal gov't call stating that they wanted to give me money. i told him i wasn't interested and hung up. sounds sketchy

I picked up after they called twice today and it was "Maverick Funding" which is a mortgage company. the caller started by saying his name and then "Bam" let's talk about your mortgage and how they could help. When I stated I was not interested he kept pushing til I hung up.

This bogus number has called my house 3 times today, and left no message.  Caller ID just said New York. I'm about ready to get rid of my landline, since all I ever get are telemarketers and political shills.

Yes, I got a call with this number. I realized it is bogus and they are inputting that as display. Something should be done about this.  It is a VOip

I answered, same thing. found my resume on monster and was calling about a job position, but obviously didnt really look over my resume as he was surprised when I told him I was still in school, something which is in the title of my resume.

I got a call from this number, didn't answer.  The person actually left a message, her name was Stacy and she left me a number of 212-605-0580 to call her back.  Check the number out and it is from Gothman Search Group, a recruiting company.

WE continue to get calls from 212-000-7777 and the people are very rude, but the main problem is, they continue to call after being told to remove us as we are on the no call list.  They also have the option to press #2 to be removed, but that doesn't work either. These calls come at least a couple of times each week.  How can we stop these calls??

This is the deal with the 212-000-0000 number.

Small and/or temporary office space rented to companies and/or political camps, especially now during primary season, get hooked up to the same phone lines through the company that someone listed as a link above.

It's not only the Gotham Search Group LLC that has this seven zero number that comes up on the Caller ID, it's also someone running for office in NYC.
I spoke to both parties; both very nice.

Who the "Private" is on my Caller ID, I suspect it's also
politically-affiliated.

We've been harrassed by this number for a number of weeks now. They always ask for the business owner but when told he's either unavailable or asked for the nature of the call, they hang up.

ONE time only when I asked what it was in regards to, they said it was about our account with them accepting visa and mastercard. WE DO NOT ACCEPT VISA NOR MASTERCARD. I had to state this very firmly several times and then was hung up on.

I've tried calling back but am asked for an account number.

Spoofed caller id = scammer. There is no '000' exchange in any part of the U.S.

Call spoofing is easily done with certain types of phone carriers, like Cablevision.  There are other ways too, even your SMS text messages on your cell phone can be spoofed by unscrupulous collection agencies.

This is illegal.

The scumbag collectors can make your caller ID show anything; FBI, you local police Dept., or nonsense numbers that don't exist like the 212 number discussed here.  The idea is to rouse curiosity, cause panic, but mainly to trick you into answering the phone.

If you are in debt, and youse know who you are, these calls are guaranteed to be from bill collectors, repossession a**holes, etc.

Of course, you may be getting wrong numbers, or the calls are from telemarketers, things like that.

Again, if your car payment is over due, they are looking for you, and if you call them back, they WILL find you.

If the cops are looking for you, take care of those warrants, and step up, because they are NOT going away.  Be a man. And don't even think about stepping into court without a lawyer.

Now here is the surprise.  Collectors will use this site.  YES THIS SITE RIGHT NOW,  bill collectors pose as legit, non-threatening businesses, and pretend to be job placement firms and similar, to AGAIN trick you into calling them.

I don't trust the people on this site telling you, that the number you checked is a recruiter.  With a 000-0000 phone number...

Come on, there are no phone numbers like this, use your hard.

Look at the poster on here "Accountant", I guarantee that is a bogus bill collector.

Who knows, this site may be clever collectors scamming us now, getting our IP address, etc.
