Asked if he had reached then recited my home telephone.  Told me I was having difficulty with my Windows and they were contracted to fix the problem. Wanted me to go to my computer hit the Microsoft emblem on the keyboard and he would then tell me what to enter.  He told me he was calling from Killian, Tx but the telephone number displayed New York. Told him what I thought of him and stopped the conversation.  Later in the day discussing with a friend, it was discovered the same call was made to her.

Next time they call immediately put a game horn to the phone. That might pop a few ear drums.

The message sounds identical to that from 14062903003.

Just got a missed call from this odd number... Area code 212 is from NYC, but with the number arrangement, it's obvious to me the number is "fake" or "false"; as it is said at call-centers!

Call-centers that do outbound telemarketing have the ability to generate false numbers to appear on caller IDs. They could be calling from a call-center or "boiler room" from anywhere in the country.

Well... earlier this morning I recieved a call from the number 678-514-2548, answered no response. So I just recieved a call from this number now. Didn't answer no messaged left, kind of getting mad now. I recently applied to some jobs off of careerbuilder.com, however earlier on in the month a college tried to scam me into attending their school, virgina college. So they could of gotten my number from either place. Anyone else know some information on this number?

Got the same call on November 22'nd.  I fully agree with your bogus number = bogus call.

I am surprised that these folks could engage in this kind of fraud.  What would stop them from using a legitimate number?  Like mine?

Mind you, they could be calling from Uzbekistan and the law could not get at them.  <sigh>

Recorded message I didn't listen to. Started off 'Did you know...' and that's where I hung up. Caller ID shows 'UN Assign NY' not that it matters as it's obviously a spammer.

Saw one post that suggested it was Liberty Mutual calling about a resume. Coincidentally, I applied for a job at Liberty Mutual recently. Wondering if it's the real thing or a ploy by a spammer/scammer.

Sucks when you cant trust the person (or machine?) on the other line when you are relying on calls to get re-employed.

Same story here - United American Insurance Co - somehow they got the idea that I'm an independent insurance agent and they want me to sign up for their webinar.  I signed up under Bea Goode.  We'll see if they figure it out  hahaha.

212 area code is New York City. Here's the deal. 212 area code dosnt have an NXX. NXX is the first three digits following the area code. Like My area code is 212, my NXX is 300 (212-300-XXXX). I checked it out, and NYC has NXX 212 listed as "NXX Use: Home NPA (NPA=NXX)". Which means they dont use 212 after 212 so not to confuse people (Esp with all these new area codes in NY).

So you're wondering than how are people calling me using 1-212-212-1212 and so forth. They're using a program that spoofs the Caller ID system. They might be calling you from 917-785-XXXX and using a software program that "changes" the caller ID when calling out to display a fake one that they choose to display. So when it shows up it shows up as 212-212-2112. You can even have it show up as 1-777-777-7777 if you want. This makes is so you can't be traced back to your original number. Its very hard to block because they can spoof any number they want using fake numbers or caller iding fake numbers that are really disconnected.

Called on 3/10 and left a message.  United American Insurance Company advertising a webinar for Medicare suppliment insurance.  The message gave a call back number for more information about the webinar:  888-269-7163.  Called back and the woman that answered asked me if I was interested in one of their webinars.  No, but I would like them to quit calling me.  Was given another number to call to be removed from their call list: 800-925-6793.  Called this number but just heard a message about their business hours.  I'll have to call this number during the week.  They do have a web site:  http://www.unitedamerican.com

Something fishy about a company that cold calls using a NYC area number that's probably spoofed when they are really in Texas.

I'm in Alaska & these guys have been calling my house EVERY day about 4-5 times per day for the last week. 7a, 12p, 4p, and again around 7 or 8p. It just started this last week. Never anyone there. This last time I put an an extremely, extremely high pitched sound to the phone so they could get an earhole full before they hung up. I called my local phone provider and they offer a denial of service block for like an $1.50 or so per month. It's unlimited for additional #"s. Seems to be working so far. Either that or they didn't like the sound of the "fog horn in a can" in their ear.

Well it sounds like it is time to give it back to them. I just happen to have a direct telephone number to them, so we can all give them a call and give them a piece of our mind. That number is 866-558-3503 and extension 1388 to talk to Frank. Hope this gives you all a little bit of hope that they cannot hide as well as they would like to.

cheers

Yes, I just got another call (after dozens) from them - this time: 701-625-5003. I spoke with the agent and after I insisted, she told me it was "Consumer Debt Advocate." When I asked where the company was located her response was, "I'm not going to tell you that." I immediately said that I wanted to speak with her supervisor. A person who identified herself as "the supervisor" came on the phone. When I asked her where the company was located there was a period of silence and then she hung up on me. I then looked up "Consumer Debt Advocate" on Google, phoned them and spoke with an extremely polite and professional sounding person. He informed me that he was part of a law firm with a similar name. He said the name of the telemarketing firm in question is: "www.callconsumerdebtadvocate.com  I just looked this up, and called the number provided (18773080409 is the toll free number for Call Consumer Debt Advocate.)  Guess what!! The telephone message is: "I am sorry, the office is now closed." All-in-all, BEWARE!

recieved 8 calls from this number they then switched to 406-623-3003. Got yet more calls from them and then they changed the number to 701-625-5003. I have been nothing but harrassed by this company to which I have no debt to consolidate. I have since called my cell phone provider who said there is nothing they can do unless enough people contact Telus and complain. They suggested I change my number to which I am unwilling to do nor should I have to in order to stop this. So my suggestion is to call Telus if you are getting these calls on your cell and complain to them so they can do something. They told me they needed  at least 5 people to complain in order to act on it.  Hope you have a better day.

It's Consumer Debt Advocate.  Pressing '2' as instructed by the recording doesn't get you taken off the call list.   They've also used these numbers:

701-625-5003
406-623-3003

They've got different at least two websites and different 800 numbers at each site, but it's the only way you'll get a real person.

www.consumerdebtadvocate.com (800-258-0973 )
www.callconsumerdebtadvocate.com (877-308-0409 )

Maybe if enough people tie up their lines complaining, they'll get the clue
