People stung by Psychology Today directory scams previously are providing information out of the kindness of their hearts to prevent others from being scammed. You might want to heed what they say. Experienced practitioners develop radar for detecting fishy offers. There are a lot of marketing scams out there these days and some of them, like this one, seem on the level at first and become abusive down the road. Been there. Done that. Won't again.

It's a scam. They hit me a few years ago. Not going to go there again.

Sounds like Psychology Today or Sussex Publications wrote this one!

6/14/10 I got a call William Dowerdy asking me to call his boss Peter Joy at 646-763-6380. He stated that Peter is wanting to know if I am taking new patients. I did not call back.

So was everybody in the boiler room instructed to make fake posts defending the scam today, or did you have to write them all???

You guys, let's all be honest - if someone called me up and immediately said they were from PsychToday and wanted me to sign up, I'd think "SALES CALL" and hang up. While Geoff Hoffman's approach was a little sneaky at first, I talked about this with him over the phone and he explained the reason.
I never would have called back a voicemail from him had it just said blah blah blah freeblah blah.. haha, i mean, we're all human, we all hate that.
Happy to be with them though, they're an honest company and do good business!
I can't believe these people calling this a scam when they're shelling out $180 on every therapist they feature for the 6 months free. You guys, come on, we all can afford this type of marketing.
If you don't need it, move on, but if you could use a couple new regular patients, recognize that you're being incredibly cheap and petty. If you want to cancel, here's a new idea, don't forget to cancel! Can't we all be held responsible for our own actions?

If any of this were true, you would have no reason to even look up the number on this site, much less tell us how LEGIT they are LOL
Only one reason we see posts like yours -- YOU WORK THERE. Scammers coming on 800 notes to run their scams tell us this site is working, so thanks for that anyway!
| concerned reader 2010-03-12 21:15:36 Unknown |
I can't stand getting telemarketing phonecalls either, but it's a LEGIT company with a LEGIT offer -- it doesn't seem like a scam to me because I didn't forget to check in during the 6 months... sounds more like you have a bad memory, can't keep track of time, and couldn't possibly be a well reputable therapist while lacking the skills of time management?
These people were very nice to me, and I received a ton of referrals.
Not really a bad way of doing business to expect a grown person to keep track of time, buddy.
Remember to go to sleep tonight...

Got a message from a "Peter Joy" saying he had me on a list of therapists and asking me to call him back at 646.763.6380 to answer a couple of questions about my practice. The caller ID showed 212.260.7210. I looked up both numbers and found the first to be an unlisted cell phone and the other to be Sussex Publishing - home of Psychology Today.
I am currently considering listing my practice on their service and found a deal through a professional association. I really don't understand why they're choosing to portray themselves as potential clients looking for information rather than transparently marketing the listing service. I've had a pretty positive impression of Psychology Today in the past - now I think they're sketchy. I think I still might list my practice via the professional organization but I'm a lot more hesitant to do business with Psychology Today now.

Beware they are scammers.
They try to sign up in a directory for free, then when you forget, they start charging your credit card endlessly untill one day you realize.
I am reputable therapist and was taken advantage of for a whole year.
Beware, bad way to do business.

they called my home today and told my wife they were calling for someone who my wife had the impression worked at psychology today who wanted to be referred to me to see me as a therapist. seemed fishy to me, so i'm glad i found this webpage. yuck.

I want to tell you how fabulous Michael Anthony was to me.
I was told by a colleague that I could have 6 months free on the Psychology
Today website. I decided to sign up. However, I don't have the computer
skills to get a photo up, even though I have a photo on another site. Nor
do I have the skills to put a resume on your site. I have a son who is
excellent on the computer and helps me, but he is working two jobs and was
away for two weeks.
I called and luckily for me, spoke to Michael. He helped me step by step
with my photo and my profile. He is as kind a person as my son and that's
saying everything. He treated me with amazing patience, encouragement and
compassion. He never made me feel like there was anything wrong with me,
despite my total ignorance. He guided me though the process, had me email
my photo to him (which was on Facebook) and then placed it on PT's website.
He did the same with a write up I had done also for another site. He helped
me answer the many questions you have therapists answer with intelligence
and humor.
I recommend Michael to anyone, no matter how non computer savvy they are.
He is an amazing human being. You can be delighted that you have him
working for you. He is a real find.
I hope you will tell him how pleased I was with him.

Psychology Today maybe a reputable publication, but the way they are going about this is ALL wrong and very unprofessional. I got a call from a William (refused to give me his last name). He called from 212 260 7210 and told me to call Mike Anthony at yet another number. When I asked what this was about he said it was about some referrels for massage and didn't really know what Mike Anthony did for a living - red flag. As a Professional Liscened Massage Therapist I found it very strange that someone from New York City was calling me to call someone in New Jersey, but wouldn't tell me how they got my number when I am out on the Cape. I'd say that is clearly a red flag. The conversation w/ this William was so wierd, right off the back I knew something was up. I came right over to the computer to look this up and was glad I did seeing all these other posts.

I imagine you can only be upset if YOU yourself are a sketchy practioner....do your research on the company before telling the world of your silly sounding comments.
Psychology Today has done wonders for my referral service.

Well, I do not like telemarketing. Seemed like a scam to me, and I do not want to be solicited. If I had known that it was a referral service in advance to the sketchy messages and call back numbers I would have been alot more willing to try this. NO need to be so shady if it is a legit and reputable service. I was not impressed, and did not bite. Michael hung up on me when I mentioned seeing the # online, finding it to be a refferal service. Sketchy. I'll stick to my own clients Thank you very much.

I too, received a call from this number, on Thursday,April 2nd. Tracy left me a message on my voice mail to call her boss Michael Anthony(at the same number that you referenced),as he had some massage questions for me. I was not able to return the call until the next day April 3rd at 646-763-6366 number. I got "Michael's" voice mail. I did leave a message. Today, April 7th, I received a call, from Michael, that went to voice mail, asking me to return his call at 212-260-7210 ext 248. Having had a "sense" of something "not right" I did a google search on the number. Boy, I am glad that I did, one less phone call to have to return, especially since I recently shattered my wrist, and am not doing massage at this time.

I received a call from Tracy and this number showed up on my caller ID. She called for boss, Michael Anthony, at 646-763-6366. By digging around I found this out. Since Tracy did not block her phone number, I called it and found that it was the main switchboard for Sussex Publishing. After going through a little bit of trial and error, I located her. One of the magazines they publish is ?Psychology Today?. When I called her, she had to ask me ?which boss did I say wanted to talk to you?? even though she appeared to recognize my name and knew I was a massage therapist. She told me Michael Anthony was out for the day but I could talk to his assistant, ?Eileen?. Once I got on the phone with Eileen, she told me that Michael was in a meeting and she was handling his calls. She then began reading a script about their referral service at Psychology Today and went into a boring blah, blah, blah, until I finally stopped her and told her I was not interested because I was going to school full time and did not wish to be listed at this time. Her response was ?good for you, bad for us?. As soon as I made it clear I would not be participating in the referral service, she hung up on me.
