Port Authority telling me about "my lost property". I live in Florida and have never lost anything up there. Maybe it was for the person who had the phone number before me. They had very poor English also.

I confirm, this phone number is from PA NY/NJ.
They called me recently from this number, regarding my interview for a job.
This is not a scam this time.

I just want help some folks get clarification. Like most of the other people have reiterated, The call is 100% from Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and it is business related. When you get a call from this number, ask yourself the following questions: Do I have business dealing with Port Authority either as a passenger using any of their infrastructures, like the Trains, Tolls, Airport. And secondly, do I have interest in a job that was posted by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. It might be that the person making that call is helping in one degree or the other with your recruitment effort. And finally, do you have friends that works with Port Authority of New York and New Jersey that is trying to get hold of you. I bet you, it is one of the following scenarios that I just highlighted. And of course, there is that possibility that a weirdo working for Port Authority likes you and knows that all calls from Port Authority of New York and New Jersey display the same number and use that opportunity to prank call you.

Thanks for the info. I have a friend who works for the port authority so I think he was trying to reach me from work. I hope he's okay, cause he usually calls from his cell or sends a message on facebook.

The same as lots of people, got a call from 212-435-8000, and don't know what it is!
NYC 2013-06-05 16:22:36 Unknown
I got the call from 212-435-8000 and I let it go to voicemail. I Google the number, which lead me to this site. Since I am going through a Port Authority Police Officer position, my assigned investigator called me from his office desk and the number that would appear is 212-435-8000 is due to using the Port Authority telephone system. So if you received the call like I did, it is a legit call from an employee personal. (Hence) if you?re going through the background process like myself, contact your investigator if she/he did not leave you a message.
Overall, my investigator did leave a voicemail, so I called him back.

They keep calling me too! I'm not sure what to do, i then called the port authority and they hung up on me.....

Clearly this is a robocall spoofing its source number with the intent of a 'denial of service attack' against the Port Authority of NY.
If you do not know a number and they do not leave a message it is very likely spam. Returning the call only adds to the problem.

caller called my home, and told me i have the job i requested, i told them i never applied for a job, so my wife (spoke in the background) and the caller then told me let me speak to that person, this person was very pushy and persistant, we hung up, they called again, and told them, we never applied for a job, we are retired, and then hung up. The phone number is 212 435 8000. For them to call again after we hung up ..........is very puzzling ?

This phone number is the main operational line used by the Port Authority of NY and NJ. There are no scammers calling you from this phone number, however, an employee may be contacting you from a department attempting to collect for billing purposes. We here at the Port Authority of NY and NJ have many departments throughout the NY and NJ area. We do supply services such as EZ Pass registration and billing, so it is very well possible this was meant to collect, but not for other reasons. I personally work as a Security Agent for the Port Authority of NY and NJ and this is the number that shows up whether I receive a call from any one of the offices in NY or NJ to my direct number. There are hundreds of ext. numbers, but this will always be the main number that will appear on a caller I.D. for cellular and home telephones. If you receive a phone call from this number requesting personal information and you know you did not apply to the Port Authority for a job, or use EZ Pass through the PA of NY and NJ I suggest calling the following phone numbers immediately after you receive the call,
Port Authority Police Dept. 201 239-3500
Let the officer/dispatcher know you received a call and what it was in regards to and ask them to assist you in an investigation. This would be considered a serious matter if a P.A. employee is contacting you for information to use illegally.

You can use filter rules to hang up or play a remove number message. You can also have time-of-day forwarding rules.
This is really an annoyance and it is getting more common. The only way to fight it is with the "anti-virus" of telephony - filtering the calls.

Received phone call from this phone number. No message. We are a business and don't need our lines to be tied up with this calls.
Tyler 2011-06-06 20:42:54 Unknown
This number shows up on my phone (work phone) roughly 5-6 times a day. Has been on going now for 4 days. I have tried to call back but get the message 'NY and NJ port authority, otherwise an unlisted number' It has become rather annoying. Any ideas on how to get it to stop?

I received the same phone call and the man asked for me by name, I asked him what it was in reference to and he told me that it was the IRS and he was calling me for tax fraud. I knew then that something wasn't right because he called on a Saturday morning around 7:00AM, and first of all the IRS is only open Monday-Friday. The IRS always contact you through the mail if there is something wrong on your taxes, I knew he was trying to scam out of my personal information so I hung up on him.

This is the generic Port Authority of NY & NJ phone line. It means that a PA employee is calling you from their work phone. The callback # always says 212-435-8000 regardless of where they are calling you from (i.e. NY or NJ). Its not a solicitor calling. The PA doesn't call to sell you something. This call may be more business related than personal.
Tim 2011-06-06 20:42:54 Unknown
Frank is 100% right. The phone number is the number that shows up whenever someone from the Port Authority of NY & NJ is calling you, regardless of where they are calling. I have numerous friends who work for them, and they work at different locations, but the same number is the one that shows up.

First time I received this call was this morning. Funny, it came on my cell phone. I hope I am not a repeat recipient but it sounds like I will be. I am tired of all this solicitation. I can't understand what prompts these guys to continue when I don't know a single soul who has ever actually responded to these kinds of calls. I did a reverse look up on WhitePages and got : http://www.whitepages.com/business/reverse-phone/212-435-8000

It is not the port athority. The person who called from this number started talking to me in Spanish. I told him if he couldn't speak to me in English then don't call me. I hung up. I'm not going to bother answering this number again.

Recieved a call today from the number, didn't recognize the number. Left a voicemail, turns out it's a guy I'm going to be purchasing something from who lives in NJ. I assume he works at the NY/NY Port Authority.

Received same type of call from number "212-435-8000."
I just let it go to voice mail
I tried to call it back, but received a general response stating I had reached the NY/NJ Port Authority
Receive a lot of these "random calls" with no voice mails or messages
