Most call blocking systems have limits on the number you can add. Within a year, the number of scam calls easily exceeds the limit. I have stopped answering the phone at all, unless I'm expecting a call. My friends leave messages and I call them back.
Reporter 2013-12-25 20:48:24 Unknown
When you answer as call, it tells you the machine, which dials numbers at random, that you are there. This probably directs your number to the "call frequently" column. Since the people placing these calls are criminals, it would hardly be surprising that they're also rude.

Robo-calls are illegal 24/7. So are calls to people on the Do Not Call list.

got call from 212-539-4372, was not home at the time but I would not have picked up anyway, call came in at 1:40 pm on 12/11
Jim Isom 2013-12-18 19:07:06 Unknown
I also get all those numbers. What I started doing is to press 'answer' and then immediately press 'off'. If it's a computer calling within 2-3 seconds your phone will ring again. Repeat the process. Three rings will be the last. Doing this with all the calls has reduced the calls I get from 4-5 a day to one or two every other day.

Blocked one of these, they tried now using 212-539-9573. The same tired, sad, wheezy
medical alert scammer. Perhaps they are faking all the old NYC phone booth numbers,
you sure can imagine a slouching slobberer working out of a gritty old phone booth!

scam artists 212-539-4372
Very true. 2013-12-16 21:16:29 Unknown
All it is is a scam. There is no company there are no services there is no medical device. Just theft.
Telemarketing calls are illegal btw. Any automated call that calls you that you didn't not sign up for is illegal. 100% completely illegal.
But!!!! With that stated, especially the elderly, you'll be surprised by the many folks who fall for the scam, every, single, day!!! Some have fallen for this scam numerous times.

Just got another call hang up at 1120 am PST. Those of you who posted the various numbers used point very clearly that we have to keep reporting every single number these scum bags change to. If so, maybe someday the Feds can catch them. If not, they will continue to change their phone number and keep conning in elderly or impaired friends and relatives. Warn those who you think may be suckered in by con artists: Any phone call to them for something is a scam and wants to steal their money and the rest of their lives. That may be the only way those who are not up on these horrible "things" that use phones can be slowed down a little bit. The list of phone numbers is very good -- have heard from almost every one of those numbers and have never picked up the phone.

The DNC doesn't protect from the scammers, extortion scams and frauds. Most of those are spoofed numbers to boot. It only keeps the honest business's honest! Since when do criminals obey any laws? Answer: They don't!
So the DNC works as it was intended to, and most folks do not understand how it really works. Yes, the scumbag callers have increased, and I personally don't get maybe 1-4 calls a month now after using various tactics found here in threads. ROT, pick it up and hang it up asap! Don't answer calls you don't know. Don't press any numbers as all you do is verify they have a live number.
Call blocking devices have way more blocking capacity then the phones do and can be found at about 60.00. Amazon has a nice selection..The T-lock Incoming PRO Call Blocker sells for under 60 bucks on Amazon and can block up to 1500 numbers.

Don't know who you work for, but you're dead wrong.....the calls HAVE increased! I used to keep a log and I've blocked some numbers, but I can only block 30.......not anywhere near enough. There are SO MANY numbers out there now that I no longer have the time to keep the log! I still check back here on the numbers, just to make sure, but anyone who says these scumbag callers have decreased since the DNC list came up, is just plain deluded!!!

What can be done?
Vote for congresspersons who are interested in you rather than special interests. The DNC list was the idea of Democrats. The loopholes were put in by Republicans. The Bush administration (#2) put pressure on the FCC not to pursue actions against illegal calls with the exception of junk faxes to businesses (i.e. special interests).
Steve Wilson 2013-12-15 00:10:20 Unknown
While you may have seen (or thought you saw) an increase in calls, the facts are that the DNC list has reduced the number of calls. Honest businesses, for the most part, abide by the list. Illegal scammers do not.

hahahaha too funny!
They also just called 5:40pm. Caller ID said New York, I didn't answer and no message left.

The only purpose of the medic alert for seniors scammer's calls is to get our credit card numbers, so they can cheat us.
angeleyes 2013-12-13 22:55:08 Unknown
No, DNC has NOT eliminated 99% of phone calls from scammers. The calls have INCREASED since DNC started. The Credit Card scammers have been calling me for going on 3 years. Even local businesses are ignoring DNC and call repeatedly to repair roofs, construction, windows, air duct cleaning, etc. They blatantly ignore DNC. I used to be able to report all of them, now there are so many it's gotten too time consuming. I don't answer the calls anymore and have my ringer off.
angeleyes 2013-12-13 22:52:24 Unknown
Just turn your ringer off and check your messages a few times a day.
angeleyes 2013-12-13 22:51:00 Unknown
How do you call forward and individual number to make a loop? I can only forward all my calls. Most of the numbers who call give a disconnected message if you call it. My ringers off here too unless I'm expecting an important call.
