The number seems to have been co-opted by another scammer, "government benefits for electricity".

First I got calls from 212 897-0545 so I blocked it through Comcast --Then I started getting them from 212 601-9582 --so I blocked that one. I won' t answer the phone.

Same experience here.  The caller ID said New York NY, so I answered, "Hello, this is Linda" in case it was a business call.  The caller disconnected.

Same # just called me-- one post said it was the ASPCA but I have no idea.

Just got a call from 212-601-9582 & it showed New York on the caller ID. I answered the phone and the man said my name & wanted to know if that was me. Then he kept talking and I stopped answering until he hung up.

They call once or twice every day. Incredibly annoying. I never answer.

This number 212-897-0545 keeps calling, daily.  When I answer, there's nobody on the line; and it disconnects.  It called 3/31/10 @ 10:37 am.  My caller ID says New York NY.  I've tried to bock the # on Cox.net, but their directions don't work.

calls last week from 212-601-9591 and 212-601-9582.  Am going to report the numbers on the do not call list!

My caller ID always shows ASPCA, but they have called under at least four different numbers in the last few days (all with area code of 212 but then is either 879- or 601-). Twice lately they've called as early as 8 AM. Like so many people who add comments, I have received six such calls (4 from "ASPCA") in last two days, and it's not even noon yet. They seem to come in waves. So thankful I have caller ID. So annoying too to have them hang up just before answering machine picks up and I'm left with an annoyingly long dial tone. I've learned that the ASPCA calls will always do this and stand by to get them off the line so I don't have to listen to that droning tone..

I picked up the phone and said, "this is Linda".  I heard a series of clicks and they hung up.  I tend to answer when it's not an 800 number in case it's a business call.

Calls everyday. I will not pick up the phone, and do not want them to call anymore.

Received many calls from this number, never leaving a message.  When I finally answered, a man asked for my husband and when I said he wasn't available he said he'd call back later and hung up before I could even ask what it was regarding.  Seemed like a very suspicious call, which is why I tried searching it on Google!  I see I'm not the only one getting these weird calls.

I finally answered one of these calls since they never left a message.  The guy identified himself as from the ASPCA, requesting assistance with mailouts.  Very nice guy, however, the calls just keep coming!  I don't answer anymore.

all numbers claim on id to be aspca.....they are 3rd party debt collector criminals....
do not answer these calls....they are phony !!!!!
