OMG, I just got a call on my cell phone from 212-601-9696 also.  I have been job hunting for months so I am guessing it does have something to do with that, but I missed the call and they didn't leave a message as many of other posters have stated.

Same here!  Looking for a job, they called, left a half message about employment applications.  I searched and found this message board.  I agree with Mike up there, someone "should personally go to New York and step on this guy's neck!".  I am also in TX looking for employment using Craigslist :(  BASTARDS!

From my caller ID - Voxbone / NYC2 212 601 9696 - called me and I answered the phone, the person seemed surprised - they asked for someone with my last name but they did not identify themselves.

Before I told them who I was I asked who was calling and they said they had the wrong number. I live in Atlanta GA. I have applied for jobs on craigs list.

I just got the call an hour ago, and it's gotta be a Craigslist deal. I'm job hunting in California, noticed something odd when responding to a few potential employers. The closing screens appeared to be from different companies, however they were graphically almost identical. I took screen shots of these two:

GoodCompanyJobs.com

DirectCareerJobs.com

As I recall there were offers for information about debt counseling services and insurance (?). I definitely go along with the scam theory.

OMG, I just got the call also.  I googled the # and was just reading a few comments and I was blown away.  I applied (online) for a school job here in my little hometown.  I called the school, they never placed the ad.  Something very fishy going on I would say.  They did leave a voice mail or partial.  It was a recording and picked up in the middle (how convenient) saying something about applied for in the last week.  That is when I called the school.  The Superintendent said they never hire like that.  Be very careful

I just got a call from the same number an hour ago and no voice mail!!!  After reading all of these comments, I will never use Craigslist again for my job search.  Next time they call, I will definitely pick up and give them a piece of my mind. Who's the one that wants to go to NY and step on his neck???  I'd be happy to come. :)

I just got a call and I don't answer numbers that I am not familiar with because of this kind of stuff. I did a anywho.com search and nothing came up and I did a google search on the number and here I am with all of you. :) I would think that a real company would leave me a msg but all I got was "your application was rec'ved within the month and please stand by for the next application specialist" or something like that. Scammers. i don't even list my phone number or address on my resume so I don't know how they got my info. God will deal with them. Just be careful out there.

Received a call and they left no voice mail. However, like others that have commented, I have recently filled out an application that solicited other suspicious services like debt relief. I exited the application without finishing, unfortunately after entering my contact information. This is definitely not a legitimate company, as their phone number is a landline but is unlisted. Most proper businesses would want their numbers listed to make them available to the public!

All the above happened to me as well and I have not applied for jobs on craigslist since.  It seems very suspicious to me that you get an email back, on your response to the ads, asking you to fill out an application that asks for a cell phone number and does not appear to be run by the company placing the ad.  Why do they need that?  Then I got a weird call stating to hold the line regarding a job I applied for.  I hung up and figured this has to be some sort of scam as real employers don't do that.  Hope I did not screw myself by applying for the few jobs that I did on craigslist.

I actually got someone on the phone when I called back.  I grilled her for the better part of ten minutes about the company.  Here are some of the responses to questions I posed:

Me: This is a NY number, where are the offices located?
Rep: We are based out of Orlando Fl, and have no offices in NY.

Me: What is the street address of the company in Florida?
Rep: I don't have that information.

Me: You must!  You drive to work every day, do you not?
Rep:  I work from my home.

Me: What is the full name of the company?
Rep:  Look up Questmarketing, in Orlando Florida.

This is who they are.  Questmarketing is a third party marketing organization that gathers personal information in order to sell said information to other businesses.  This time, in particular, they are selling to the University of Phoenix.  U of P will certainly be mailing you information, or calling you about a worthless degree - assuming you gave them your information.

There are all kinds of companies like this, which are mostly harmless.  They are just going to sell your information to another party for about $0.10 per person.  I know this because I manage the marketing of a particular business and we buy our data from USAData.com, for ten cents lead.

Sorry.

Got a call today from them, which I inadvertently disconnected.  I am looking for work, and have submited several applications.  Sure enough, when I try to call the number, I get a message advising me that all circuits are busy.  So I guess I won't worry about it, since it's been suggested by a poster that this may very well be a scam.

I just received a call from this number and Googled it, and found this website. I didn't pick up the phone and they did not leave a message. I have been applying for jobs in South Florida for the past few weeks on craigslist, careerbuilder, monster, and yahoo hot jobs. I did not apply to any company in New York. In my experience, no legitimate or worth-while job will go out of their way to call you if you have not applied for a position with them. I'm sure it is a scam.  I've been getting a lot of calls and e-mail from companies that I've Googled and they come up on Scam.com and RiOffReport.com.
