After >3 years of trying to get my landline carrier to help block robo calls Frontier Communications finally told me it could be done for another $5/month on top of $45/month for local service. I decided it was time to change carriers. I switched to Straight Talk home on Jan 7. Robocalls dropped from 30+ per month (at times 4/day) to none in the 20 days since I dropped the incompetent clowns at Frontier. Perhaps it is only coincidental but find that hard to believe. My suggestionto reduce robo calls dump your landline carrier. BTW, I'm now saving >$30/month.

We were checking into a hotel and they were trying to give us a discount.   The lady asked us if we were members of AARP.   My husband "No, I don't like what they stand for."    The lady responded, "You are getting a discount."

Really! I report many calls to the FCC & they do nothing. Maybe they can't- but since so many of us report the numbers of  these robocalls & other unwanted calls, I'd think they could do something about getting the scoundrels.

I filled out the FCC Do Not Call complaint form with 6 phone #s this operation is using to reach me after being blocked each time they attempt a new call.. The BBB said this will help the FCC better track them  to get them stopped.  The caller ID name showing up means nothing; they steal names and locations - the calls might be coming from  India!!

I suppose that if you and everyone else did that it would solve the medic alert for seniors scam, which this discussion pertains to. Way off track.

My husband and I are dropping AARP and joining AMAC
Same benefits and a much more American approach to the same end.
AARP is out for their own pocket and I don't plan on enabling Obamacare if I can at all help it. Price is right and covers primary and spouse. Look into it. Drop AARP

Telemarketer
You can't beat this type of marketing but you can take some of the frustration out of it.

1. Subscribe to Caller ID from your phone company.
2. Also subscribe to Voice Mail or get an answering machine.
3. Don't answer ANY calls if you don't recognize the caller information.

If the call is legitimate and you don't answer it, the caller will likely leave a message and you can choose whether to return the call (at your convenience). If the caller doesn't leave a message, the call was probably not legitimate or it was unimportant to begin with. You'll find many calls will abandon after several rings and never get to the point where they might leave a message. These are telemarketers who are anxious to get connected to the next sucker. They figure if you haven't answered yet, you're either not going to, or their call is going to go to voice mail. It may take several months, but you will see a noticeable reduction in telemarketing calls IF YOU RELIGIOUSLY FOLLOW THE STEPS ABOVE .

I wonder if they share information about their members to other organizations. If this is the case, I just see how many others end up with that information.

Seniors are the target with many of these calls and it is a scam as far as I am concerned. My mom has been receiving them and I doubt she wants a message from them.

Part of the issue with these scam calls is that these operations often conceal their actual phone number by displaying another number (aka caller id spoofing). In the past they used out of service numbers. However there are a number of them that will display any number and people that have nothing to do with the operation end up with calls from angry people. Another problem is that many of these con artists operate from out of the country and that makes it nearly impossible to do anything to them.

There are many sources where these scammers can get info, however, it seems to me that since I started using express scripts for my diabetic supplies that is when all these senior calls stared. I could be completely wrong, but, maybe some of you other folks use this same company, and that would make them suspect. Also, I had a prescription for a potty chair for a temporary condition because my bathroom is downstairs, and shortly thereafter, a someone called me and inquired if anyone in my house uses disposable underwear. now mind you that particular prescriptions was purchased at a local pharmacy. I think that these pharmacies are leaking info. you might say that is illegal and i think it is, but, there ways around that i'm sure, just like everything else
