I missed a call from this number @7am pacific standard time, which is against the law for any collections or solicitation attempts. I called the number back and some Korean woman said "this is the Korean alliance.... some one stole our number"

They called, left no message, but I heard some noise in the background. Lets see if they call back. I do have an outstanding payday loan out and tried to make arrangements right away but the loan company told me it was sent into collections as soon as it was rejected from my back. I called the payday loan company only 5 days after it was rejected to make a payment. Maybe the call was on that ,  time will tell

I received 2 missed calls from 212-332-2240 with no voice messages before I decided to call them back and see who they were and what they wanted. When I called back I spoke with a man who informed me that they did not call me and that they have been having problems with phone spoofing. I wasn't entirely to sure what phone spoofing was so I asked. He told me that it is when another company/person calles someone else and uses yet another number as the number that registers on the phone. He informed me that they were scammers and to ignore them. I hung up and went back to work.

I then received, yet another call from the same number and I did not answer. This time they left a message indicating that I needed to call them back because they were a collection agency for an online loan that I took out and am in default on. I was outraged! I do not have any loan to begin with and they want to try and scam me out of what little money I do have.

I called them back, playing dumb of course, to see what they wanted and to make this story short ... they wanted ME to provide them with my last name and SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. I flipped out on them and told them that they were a bunch of scammers and that what they are doing is wrong. The man tried to persuade me that they were not, but to end the conversation I simply yelled for him to leave me the hell alone and to never call me again and I hung up.

This was on September 16th and today September 17th, they call me again. It is registering as the same number, but when they left me the voice message they left a different number then the one they left for me yesterday. I am not calling them back and will have their numbers blocked from my phone.

I did find out some information thanks to a really good source:

* Location: Allen Texas, Collin County
* Phone Provider: AT & T
* Longitude: -96.7803
* Latitude: 32.7975

Go to Google Maps and type the Longitude and Latitude and you will be able to see where they are located along with street names and buildings.

I hope these guys get caught!!

I had the same thing happen to me, too, like Rhea Mead.  This foreign guy was telling me that I had a loan with easyloanonline or something like that and that I owe $402.  He also told me that he was going to file a lawsuit against me if I didn't pay tonight.  I asked him to email me the details and he just yelled at me.  Ok, foreign guy language I didn't understand.  So I kept telling him to repeat and I guess he got mad and was yelling at me.  Oh well, he got a good yelling at back from me.  Stupid person!!!  The end of the conversation was that he was going to file a lawsuit against me tonight so be prepared for court.  And I said, "FINE!" and hung up.  UGH!

But I'm a little worried, no lawsuit is going to be filed against me right?  If it does, I'll be so mad.  Because if I took out a loan for $402, I sure didn't get it.  THis guy also  told me to call him back at 916-253-0812.  He said he's from california.  UGH!

I just received a call from this number. They sounded foreign and tried to tell me I had a lawsuit against me for an outstanding loan. They called my office and so would not have known if they were talking to the right person or not. When I stated I did not have any outstanding loans they tried to convince me I had applied for a loan hadn't I to which I responded no. They then hung up.

If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):
1.    The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.
2.    Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement or lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, be sure to include that information in your report.
3.    File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.
4.    File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.wvago.gov
5.    File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)

By the way, here's just a small sample of numbers used by this particular group of scammers. Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that it's laughable:

Scam alert: Bogus debt collectors
By Leslie McFadden ? Bankrate.com
Monday, Aug. 3
Posted 2 p.m.
Bankrate reporter Leslie McFadden contributed this entry.
This scam isn't technically about credit cards, but it is scary enough to post a warning. The Better Business Bureau issued an alert today saying consumers across the country are getting phone calls from bogus debt collectors claiming default on a payday loan. Of course, the consumer needs to pay a large fee to avoid arrest -- as much as $1,000.
The caller poses as a lawyer, and may threaten extradition to face trial if the consumer doesn't pay up immediately.
What makes these calls alarming -- and perhaps convincing -- is that the perpetrators reference the consumer's personal information, such as the person's Social Security number, driver's license number, previous bank account numbers, home address -- even personal references.
"The amount of information they have is really troubling," says BBB spokeswoman Alison Southwick. She adds that the amount of data points to a possible security breach.
Spread the word to your friends and family: Don't give out personal or financial information to an unknown caller. Scammers can spoof Caller ID to display different numbers, so trust your instincts over technology.
The BBB offers these tips:
?    Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.
?    Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.
?    File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
?    File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau online if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you.
