Said he's from Microsoft.
I laughed right away and called him out on it.
Then we started yelling profanities at each other. It was pretty funny! At least I thought so. He was pissed!

Prank Call
I was in deep sleep this morning when I received a long distance call.  I answered without checking the number and after less than ten seconds a woman's "machine" voice said "good bye".  I looked up the number and I see others have had the same situation.

I have had similar calls as described by everyone here.  Someone from Microsoft calling about a bug or virus on my computer.  I usually ask which version of Windows I'm running.  After all, "Microsoft" knows that it is my Windows machine.  Freak out and hang up when I insist to know which version I'm running.

The truth is that I run two MacPros, two MacBook Pros, and an old iBook (for mail in the kitchen), all on my home network, and each machine is fire walled and set up to be invisible to the Internet.  Not one Windows machine; all MacOS X, so how exactly (and why would even if I had a Windows machine) would I have a PC virus or bug on a Windows computer that deserved a call from Microsoft?

I'm in Laval, Quebec.  I should receive a call (if this is anywhere near legitimate) from Microsoft Canada.  If from the US, it would not come from Manhattan.

A friend in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who knows how to turn a computer on and off, and how to use Word for the office where she works had a similar call.  Believed them.  Next, her computer was remotely locked and she had to pay US$600 within 24 hours or all files would be destroyed.  Didn't pay.  90% of data not backed up.  Its a small law firm so years of documents were lost.

It could be fun pretending to go along with these scammers.  Waste as much of their time as possible.

BTW, the phone number is "stolen".  The real owner is a 65 year old couple with a 39 year old daughter.  Easy enough information to find.

Prank Call
June 7/2014. Called twice this week. East Indian accent. Male. Claiming to work for microsoft and that my computer was sending out signal indicating a virus. That I could verify on my desktop on the error message section. And that this would lead to slow startup and freezing. Told him this wasn?t the case. He said he would freeze up my computer. Conversation ends. I unplugged my internet just in case, for about 30 min. Clearly some sort of sick prankster.

Just received call from this number claiming to be Microsoft.  Told him he was a scammer and that I was calling the RCMP.  He used very abusive language on me.  Won't be answering calls from this number again, so no point in them calling.  This is a scam, and if you call back to the number, you get an apologetic explanation from some lady whose telephone number has been hacked.  These are a sorry bunch of LOSERS!

Caller will ask about a specific computer with a bug, but won't be able to identify it if you have several computers. He will then ask you to open an event viewer and let you find all sorts of error messages in a log. Shocking! At that point he will direct you to a website where his technician can easily count your error messages and remove the bug.

Allowing a technician at offshore website to access your computer is really a bad idea.

At that point, I made an excuse and asked him to call back. I could hear him swear as he hung up. Apparently, I cost him 15 minutes.

This guy with heavy accent has been calling my mom's house where I have been staying for a few months. He calls every second day at random times. I keep telling him I am a developer and know he is fraudulent and to remove our number from his list. He now swears at me and says rude things all the time. I told him to stop calling, he said... "I will call you and call you and call you as much as I want to"... then he says "I have 2 words for you mr.... f u" Of course I am not writing it out here but you get the idea. I am a long time web developer... I know most things there is to know about computers.... whatever this guy tries to say or get you to do... DO NOT DO IT... hang up immediately. THE REAL MICROSOFT DOES NOT CALL YOU!!!! Head warning folks! I'm going to have this low life's number blocked, you should do the same.

Got a call from them at 12:20am, scared me, my first thought is something happened to someone. The man said he was Eric (yet indian) and was calling about my computer, I knew right away this was a scam and I lost it on the guy. I called the number back from my call display and got a voicemail that sounded residential.  Thing is we almost never use our home phone, so we give our cell numbers when its required so where the hell did they even get the number from?

they are trying to sell " service subscription from microsoft" but they are frods. Based on your behaviour, they will ask to sent money via MoneyGramm, western Union, or will try to get you credit card information.
If you got call form them try to keep them on phone as long as possible and make them fill miserable in end :-)

Said they were from Microsoft. Wanted me to log onto my computer because they had detected malicious software. I'm sure they were trying to get personal information and possibly get into my computer and download their own malicious software. They sounded like someone from India, and Microsoft would never make these calls. Be careful this was a fraudulent call!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WARNING: THIS PERSON IS NOT FROM MICROSOFT!

I received a call from a caller identifying themselves as a person calling from Microsoft. Since I was a certificate owner they called to me that there was a virus on my computer. The person on the phone wanted me to go and turn on the computer and they were going to have me follow their directions to remove the viruses'.

In my case they used a false North American sounding name and their accent was definitely from another country. In the background other voices were also taking calls or pretending to take calls using the fake Microsoft agent disguise. All the voices were of similar or close non-North American accents. The call display showed the number 212-777-3450 as being from New York.

I asked them to describe all the steps for me to follow. They did tell me 5 steps, (which I did not follow), and when I asked them why they wanted to obtain full access to my computer, he laughed and said that, ?They can easily do this to us Canadians since we are so easy. We will not be able to stop them, so I can go and tell whoever I want about this number there is nothing I can do about it!"

WARNING: THIS PERSON IS NOT FROM MICROSOFT!
