We also have had calls from this number along with several other numbers many of which were number withheld.

Having suffered this for a long time I found a call blocker and purchased it for about £35 then paid another £35 for my number to be taken off various lists. This had to be paid each year.

The problem with this call blocker is that I had to enter the numbers by hand using my telephone which means I had already received the call. Often I had to dial 1471 to get the number then enter it myself.
After a year or so the scam calls increased even though I kept entering the numbers and kept a record of them on my computer.

Talking to a friend and saying I felt this call blocker was useless I was introduced to a new device I had never heard of called True Call.

I have to say this system did the job and did it well I have not received a single scam call since I installed it.

My phone can be set up on the internet then synced with my home phone by the press of a button.
I can see a record of all calls received or made along with all numbers on the block list.

I can block complete country or area codes or single numbers by a key press.

I can even record calls by the press of a single button and play back on my computer.

This is an amazing blocker and I highly recommend it to any person suffering with scam calls.
Check it out here.

https://www.truecall.co.uk/home.aspx

A major point with True Call is that they will set it all up for you on the web site then sync it with your home phone they are so helpful it is amazing.

Seems that this is still going on.  Got an iPhone recently and started getting these calls from an unknown number.  I decided that I would answer it, and got the same story.  It was an Indian fellow, called himself Frank.  He told me that my computer was infected by malware and that I needed to follow steps to get rid of it.  I basically told him to p****off, figuring that it was a scam.  Glad I did.

Had a call from an Indian guy from Windows Service Center saying there were problems with my internet browser. As caller display showed up as "International Unavailable" I asked them their phone number which they gave as 01274792474 which is located in Bradford UK. As I maintain and repair my own computers and was aware of this scam I had a few words with the guy and put the phone down. My 85 year old mother inlaw also had a call from this company and they wouldn't believe her when she told them she doesn't have a computer.

I just got a call from an indian guy claiming he is calling from microsoft cause I have a problem in my computer. He said i needed to follow his instructions if I want it fixed. I said im not following s***. He can tell me the process and I'll decide if I want to go through with it or not. (i knew he was a scammer but i wanted to f*** with him) He kept trying to convince me he needed to do it step by step WITH me. After going back and forth for some time, (dont give in to them when they are being persistent) he gave in and told me the step by step process. of course im not really paying attention cause i know its all b***s***. but i pretend like I do saying things like "wait what did you say I had to click after that?" and so forth. after f****ng with him for a couple of minutes, he goes, "can i tell you something ma'am?" and starts cussing me out.  im having the time of my life cause i was waiting for this so i can give him a piece of my mind about his scamming a**.

I got a similar call from an Indian guy who gave the name Bryan.  Gave me the following numbers to call:  432-360-4963, 973-200-6677 and 973-975-0970.   Called when I was in the car driving, thank goodness.  If I had been on my computer, I might have been tempted to do something I'd regret

They must have started up again - I am in Australia - I got a call 2 days ago and the lady sounded so plausible I let her guide me through my computer until she told me I'd have to pay straight away to get the problem fixed.  I told her to phone back later and talk to my husband,  When the Indian guy phoned he said his name was Oliver Stone.  My husband told him we were recording the phone call and "Oliver" hung up.  I think they got my details when I opened an email from my sister then realised it wasn't from her at all.

I feel your pain. I get these calls on a weekly basis and they don't get the point and I have tried everything- told them I didn't have a computer and I knew it was a scam and to not call back.... to which they replied, "ok, I'll call you tomorrow." I even told them I was recording the conversation to report it and they STILL call me back. Some days I get a number in the caller ID but mostly it's blocked. Called my phone provider and there's nothing they can do unless I'm willing to dish out money for an added service...

Just had a guy call from these losers, same company as above (PC Help 24/7), told him to give me a contact phone number and the same phone number Auckland 099849405 was given.  He said we had corrupt files and they got our number from Microsoft Windows because PC Help 24/7 has been outsourced by Microsoft to inform their customers of corrupt data.  Asked to speak to his boss and after a little while he put on the Chairman of the company LOL After questioning chairman (another man with an Indian accent) he said he didnt have enough time to talk and would give to agent LOL  The line was really bad and am sure they're not based in Auckland...Always thort it was dodgy so googled the number while on the phone and thankfully came up with this site!!! THANKS SO MUJ TO ALL WHO HAVE POSTED ABOUT THIS SCAM..Hope the losers get caught..You know what was funny though...Near end of call he said his name was Jason Smith, but he started off saying his name was Nathan Smith!!! hahhahaha LOSERS!!!

I rcvd. a call yesterday from an Indian sounding guy saying he was from Microsoft tech support & that they have been notified that I have a virus & spyware and they need to fix it.  I told him I would have to call him back; he gave me 212-796-4064.  I then tried to do a reverse phone check on it & it said "unpublished or unavailable".  So called it back, he said "this is Alex", I asked what company and he said "Microsoft tech support", and I hung up, still very leery, because I had checked my Norton's anti-virus and it said all was secure, and I did a Norton's scan and it said NO viruses or spyware. Called my guy I depend upon for support and he said it is a scam.  Thank heavens I didn't fall for it.

I had two calls from this so called 24x7PC help based in Auckland. I don't have a caller ID, so I don't know where the calls came from. The first was about three days ago from a man with an Indian accent. He sounded very tense and rude. He told me the same story about the error messages. When I asked him how he got my phone number, he said it was the one I registered my windows with. That gave it away as I have changed  my phone number recently and not used this number for anything. Yesterday a lady called claiming to be Kate but with an Indian accent. She gave the same story but went on to try and convince me about spyware from unknown internet sites. I told her that I open only McAfee safe sites, my antivirus software is up-to-date and that I don't get any error messages on my computer. She hung up abruptly. It doesn't sound straight.

I had a call on the 17th May 2011 at approx 1845hrs, from the 'so called" Windows Service Centre, Indian speaking named "Steven" who claims that I have downloaded something over the net and it's causing problem on my terminal and it's slowing down. To be more on the safe side I did ask the caller "How do I verify that its the correct person?" Rightfully from the service centre and asked him for his contact number to call him back, unfortunately he gave me this number "441865522721", no answer.

I would suggest to users to have them drop you a mail if they want to help you. Also if they know the problem exist in your terminal they should be able to provide you with your ip address.

Do not reveal anything or any information to anyone without verifying the details.

If by "Victor, who showed me all the corrupt files that were on my computer," you mean he remoted into your PC via logmein or another website (could Victor move your mouse on your screen as you watched?), you may have malware on your PC and yes, he or other criminals may have a back door into your PC. The safest fix is to reformat your drive and reload your OS assuming you have clean copy of your data. Scanning with antivirus may not find all malware. If you don't know how, get help from geek friends or pay a local shop to do it.

If the program was only saved and not executed and deleted, you're probably OK. If they had control of your PC, they would be driving your screen cursor around on your screen as you watched, and if that didn't happen, you're safe. Still wouldn't hurt to scan with antivirus software. Try Malwarebytes - free home-user download, first install, then update virus definitions, then scan. FYI, if you want to destroy a malicious file, it's better to erase the file (overwrites file sectors with random 0s and 1s) than delete. Delete only changes the leading character of the file name so File Manager can't find it, the file is still intact on your drive. I use Eraser by heide.ie - free download, donation requested, google "eraser heide.ie"

There may be malware on your PC, have you cleaned it out or reformatted your drive and reloaded the OS? Trojans like Zbot are silent and stealthy with poor detection rates because they morph constantly.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.
