There's a dangerous new virus going around that can hijack your computer and wipe out all your files. It's called the Crypto Locker virus, and it's spreading like wildfire.  Usually, the virus is disguised in an email that looks like it's from a legitimate business like FedEx or UPS. Because the email sounds and looks like the real thing, it's easy to become a victim. It could also be spread through a phone call where the caller (usually foreign accent) tells you they are from Microsoft and will help you keep your files safe if you sign up for their virus protection.  They then ask for your email address, and your credit card information.  If you give them your email address, they will send you the virus, and hackers will threaten to destroy all your files - unless you pay up first.  Do not ever give out personal information or confirm any personal information to such a phone call.

I do not answer calls from numbers I don't recognize.  I pick up the receiver on the first ring and hang up immediately.  Even if they call back two or three times.  Eventually they will get the message that it is a non-working number.  Then I report it to the FTC Complaint line immediately.  Answering the phone just ensures that they have reached a working number, and your number will be sold like wildfire, increasing these kinds of calls.  Things like pretending to have phone sex or using foul language or anything else may sound like fun or a clever way to deal with these calls, but it just proves that they have reached a valid phone number.  Instead, pick up the receiver after the first ring and hang it up immediately.  Let them believe it is a non-working number or bad connection.  They'll stop calling eventually.  Any response from you just encourages them to keep trying.  They are usually paid for any completed/valid calls.  Pick up ... hang up.  No validation involved.

I was expecting a callback from Dell between 8-9am instead I got called by 212 963 8520 my Caller ID said United Nations.  The man with an Indian Accent said that he was a Tech calling from Microsoft Windows and that they got an emergency message via email that I was being HACKED. He made it a big emergency for me to turn on my computer and hold down the Ctrl & R button until a box popped up. He then wanted me to put a code into that box.  Thankfully I followed my intuition and stopped.  I asked him where he was located and he said California, that was the first red flag, this is a NY area code.  I told him I was calling Dell and he was persistent telling me by the time I would get thru my identity would be stolen.  I had a direct extension to Dell from the prior day, Dell told me to hang up on the caller. This scammer called me back 3x while I was talking to Dell trying to convince me put in their code.  They gave me tel #315 277 2278  to call in to Microsoft to verify them.  I dialed that tel # from my cell and I could hear myself in the background on my landline that I never hung up from them.  This is a total SCAM, I heard from DELL that if I had entered that code they would have hijacked my computer and charged big bucks paid to get back control or they place viruses that only they could remove again they would want me to pay.  Dell told me in some cases even after paying hundreds they have already stolen and sold all your personal info.  I dodged a bullet for sure!  My question is how they called between 8-9am when I was expecting DELL.  Dell is now investigating this issue!

My phone at the United Nations was hacked while I was away from New York, and someone was using it to make scam calls of some kind. I just learned of the incident yesterday and have reported it to IT. There were over 900 voice mails from people between June and October 2013 complaining of this issue. My sincere, sincere apologies for the annoyance and inconvenience caused. Hopefully this won't continue, as the incident was reported to IT.

Got a call from this number 38 minutes ago, at 6:02AM, got me out of bed on my day off. Didn't make it to the phone on time, just heard a click. I called the number back, and left a message not to do it again. Then I researched the number which brought me here. Thanks for the heads up people. If they call back i'm gonna try and turn it into phone sex, if I can keep from laughing.
    So,.... what are you wearing?..........
And if it actually had been the UN, same response, don't call back, followed by, so what are you wearing?......

Been receiving calls from this number for the last few days but the person does not leave a message, just hangs up. I called back and it sounded like a recording that said something that sounded like "Bree Brennan Summer is not available. Record your message..." so I recorded a message saying that I've been receiving calls from this number with no message and I'm not sure why and that if it's not important feel free to take me off their list. The Caller ID also showed "United Nations" for me. How annoying

We received the same call at 7:55 in the morning.  This was our first clue...it's illegal in America to do any telemarketing before 8 in the morning and after 9 at night.  Any legitimate business or collection company would know this.  My husband laughed at them and gave them a hard time, he set the phone down and walked away with them still on the phone, hoping to make their phone bill higher.  They finally got the idea about 5 minutes later and hung up, after asking my husband why he was laughing at him.

I received a lot of weird calls this week at work.  Today I received a call from "United Nations" and this telephone number.  The caller stated that my computer has been accessing the internet and downloading a lot of large files that are corrupting my computer.  I asked him to repeat it and he said it verbatim!  I asked if he would like for me to refer him to our IT department (don't really have one) but he said nothing and hung up!

BIG scam going on here!

Many calls from this number saying the call is from Windows.  I have asked to be taken off their calling list, but they keep callilng.   An Asian sounding man called this morning and was extremely rude when I asked to be taken off the calling list and said he would keep calling and calling.   I asked for his name and said I was going to report him, he disconnected.   I'm certain they will keep calling.  Is there a way to effectively report these harrasing phonecalls so that there will be a penalty imposed on the callers?

My caller ID showed "United Nations" as well. Foreign speaking woman stating that she was with "Microsoft" and that 'they' had received my name, computer ID # and phone number from my computer. Would not or could not  say how they received it.  My son received the same call on his cell phone last week.  Scripted text she was reading from and when told that I do not own a computer she just kept repeating the same text over and over and over..When asked how she could have received any information from a non existent computer she was totally confused. When asked to speak to a supervisor, she hung up.

My phone ID showed "United Nations". Foreign speaking woman, probably Indian. I could make out only part of what was said. Sounded as though she called me by name and that she was calling from Microsoft to fix my computer. I Requested to talk with someone who's English I could understand and got another foreigner, a man, who could do no better. I kept telling them I could not understand them and could not determine just what they wanted. They apparently hung up in discuss and I was ready to do there same.
