I get these calls only on my cell phone every week or two. They never call my office or my home, only the cell. They say they are from the "computer technical department" about my computer, but I am my own technical department and I certainly don't need assistance from someone who is seemingly on the other side of the world. They used to say they were from Microsoft, but that changed a few months ago.

Today I let them lead me down the "garden path" to see what they wanted. Just like above, my Windows computer has been" hacked" and is being used to send out spam, etc. When I asked them WHICH computer they changed their tune slightly and said it was a Vista computer. I got a good laugh out of that and proceeded to inform them that (1) I used to own my own computer store (before Best Buy moved into town and stole my business right out from under me), Consequently, (2) I build my own desktop computers, (3) I have never had a computer using Vista, and (4) I program my own desktop computers and I do not use any Windows OS to do so. I also asked for the IP address of the computer in question, but they would not answer that and changed the subject back to "turn on the compute and hit any key". Told him that was hard to do when driving 75 mph on the Interstate, and besides my desktop was turned off when I went to be last night.

The guy was still talking when I hung up.

I am going to try to track down the phone/fax machine that screams in our ear when we call this number back.

I live in Hawaii by the way, so a call from Los Angeles that does not belong to a friend or family member does not sound right in any case.

This number called me about 4 times in the last 3 hours. I answered the first time to see who it was and they proceeded to say that they were calling from some security office and that my computer has been hacked and is being used for illegal activities like bank fraud and some other things. They said that I needed to get on my computer to fix it. I questioned them again what was wrong they gave the phone to a female who got very impatient when I asked her for the I.P. address of the computer in question and if it was my laptop or my desktop. She proceeded to say something about turn on the computer and click a button. I figured there was something wrong so I hung up. They called back around a half hour later and again and again but have not yet called back. I refused to answer any more questions. I've been searching online and found some articles about a phone call scam to hack your computer with a similar ploy. I'm just glad that I didn't follow any instructions, i didn't turn on my computer or press anything that they said. I missed the name of the company but if they call again I shall repost my findings. The caller id just said Los Angeles, California. I hope no one else gets hacked by these people.

On 3/2/14, between 8 and 9:30 Hawaii time, I was twice called from this number. My greetings were ignored and they twice hung up on me. It amazes me that (supposedly) everything we do in this country is now monitored and recorded, yet nothing can be done about rude jerks misusing the telephone. I know better than to waste my time complaining to authority. Maybe this notice will help someone else to know they are not alone in their frustration.

They keep calling and when I call back I get a fax line screeching in my ear.  I want to know what they want.
