Today, for the first time, I found a message on my answering machine from the "L.A. Times Service Center" saying they had a problem with my credit card and "if I would like to" I could call 213-237-3410.  I immediately suspected it might be fraudulent since I just sent the LA Tmes a check for two months service and they DO NOT have any current credit card information on me--thus no way of having a "problem" with the card.  I just found this website with all the above comments.  For years, the LA Times has automatically renwed my subscription via credit card, but when the credit card that I used had to be closed due to fraud, that number became invalid and they could no longer use it.  Now, it appears they are attempting to get a new credit card number from me, which is not going to happen.  What annoyed me most about the LA Times all these years of having my old credit card number is that every time the card expired, they did not contact me asking for updated information.  Rather, they just tried diffrerent dates until they hit the proper year of my new expiration date and continued the subscription.  No other company has ever done that, nor should they.  They don't know it, but they're "thisclose" to having my subscription canceled for good.  The paper is hardly worth paying for anymore.

Over the past few days I received at least one, sometimes several calls daily from that number on my cell phone.
I never answered.

From the way the recorded message on their calls to you sounds, you'd think it was a bill collector or financial scam artist.  The Times should identify themselves first thing on the recording.

It is the LA Times.
They left a message to call back at  this number. Like others report here, they did not identify themselves.
By the postings I figured it could be the L.A. Times but I did not call back. Instead I logged on their web site http://www.latimes.com/services/site/self-service/ and checked my account.Sure enough, my auto renew subscription transaction had failed twice. This was because my credit card had recently changed to a new number and I forggot to notify them. So I made the necessary corrections.

We'll see if they keep calling .........

Never a message, but when you call it back it is the LA TIMES. I also recently subscribed. I would guess that they are trying to determine if your service has indeed started...

I get a call every day and no message.  We used to have the times but cancelled.  This is pretty typical of newspaper agencies.  Annoying!!

This number is the LA Times and they call to level of harassment.  I found this page because LA Times has been calling me every day, multiple times a day.  I only subscribed originally because some kid trying to fundraise came to door.   A huge mistake - I cannot get them to leave me alone.  I did not renew when my original subscription expired and they seriously called me daily for weeks begging me to renew - which I did.  The paper goes right in the garbage for me because I read the NY Times. They continued to send me the paper even though the subscription expired and they did not have an active credit card on file.  When the daily phone calls began, I called and made it very clear I did not want the paper, and don't want the phone calls.  They said I had a balance of just over $3.  I said - for what?  I didn't authorize renewal, I paid in full for my last subscription, you have my address - I've received no bill, no explanation.  The service rep said she'd clear my account and I owed nothing.  Well, then I get a call two days later - threatening, angry, intimidating guy literally harassing me for not paying this $3.  I'm telling you, this phone call was frightening.  I called LAT customer service to complain - very sorry, etc. You'll never get a call again.  Got another call that day.  I call LAT customer service AGAIN - and again, so sorry, you owe nothing, you'll never get a call again.  They said if I get another phone call from LAT to call the police!  Well, guess what, got another call again first business day later.  I HATE THE LA TIMES!!!

Called & yes, it is the LA Times saying they'll call back to speak to me personally.

Here's the deal though: although I live in LA, I have never subscribed or done any business with them. Not cool at all.

Damn, I'm getting this phone call and I didn't even sign up for the la times. I did however give the little girl who was trying to sell me the LA times my number so that "her boss can check up on her." True what they say, nice guys get a d*ck in the a**.

I am like many others who have posted a message on this board. I receive 2-4 calls daily. If I try to pick it up, nobody answers. No voicemails are ever left. I'm not sure why this line continues to call all of us. I just wish it would stop. If anyone knows how to make it stop, it would be greatly appreciated :)

I've received 6 calls from this number so far today and at least as many every day last week but no one has left a message.  A coworker told me to Google it and I am so glad this came up.  I also just subscribed to the LA Times through third party sales. The calls woke my boyfriend up a few times and he got a little suspicious when it rang and I didn't answer.  Urgh.....
