Mark-
If you/your company are a legitimate entity then documents would have been furnished to the people that you are trying to contact...documents that show things such as the name of the company/entity that you are trying to collect the debt for, the account #, etc, etc. Simply calling someone up and saying that you're from the Attorney General's office doesn't prove anything.

I got a call today from these guys, they had a bunch of info on me but i denied it all. I immediatly contacted the place they said was suing me, they had no record of me, then i contacted all 3 credit companies and flagged my accounts for possible fraud, filed a report with local police, ftc and a couple other places that i cant think of right now, they for sure messed with the wrong person this time!!!!

Wow, I'm the idiot?  I clicked on this to see if anyone had been getting additional phone calls from this "collector" and I'm called the idiot?

First off, they do not have my bank account number or routing number.  If they did, any subsequent transactions I would see as a result of them using my account information would be reversed by my bank upon denial of the charges.  I check my accounts diligently every day.  In all likelihood, these scammers purchased a block of names and numbers, along with other relevant information used in conjunction with a loan application that was filled out online from a broker.  Whether the loans were automotive, short-term payday loans or signature loans isn't what is in doubt. (In the past I've applied for all three)  Rather, it is which company or broker had said information and then sold it to these people that concerns me.  Your best option upon contact from these jokesters is to file a fraud alert on your credit report for 90 days, and from there contact the FTC, the police and your state's Attorney General.  Document all calls you receive and keep records on them for the rest of your life.  Since reporting these individuals to the authorities I have yet to receive another phone call.

For the record, this isn't the first time I've dealt with these abusive "collectors".  The last time I had contact with people like them was around two years ago.  The crooks threatened to have someone come to my work and arrest me that afternoon around 5:00pm.  I broke out into a cold sweat and didn't know what to do.  5:00pm came and went and I wasn't arrested.  Was I spared?  Or, was this actually a trick to get me to pay them money that I didn't actually owe?  After searching online I found out that it was indeed a hoax, and I was so glad I didn't give in and pay them a dime.  The callers never bothered me after that point.  Either they had moved on to bigger fish that actually paid them, or that scam was shut down and they had to start over.

Receiving calls like this are hurtful.  I am two years removed from a discharged Chapter 7.  Aside from medical debt that I have incurred over the last five months (that I'm paying off in monthly increments - I have really bad insurance) I have no major debt to speak of that I cannot handle.  Life can be a b***h sometimes, but it is sons of b***hes like these people that pray upon the less fortunate that really bother me.  If I could find them and beat some sense into them I would.

I just received a call from this number 011 1 213 256 0408 and the person on the other end said that his name was Joh Hyan and he was with the Department of Law and Investigations - Attorney Generals Office and that there has been a cased file on previous allegations on my SS#. The male person had a very heavy accdent and told me to call as soon as I could, So I called and it went straight to a voicemail box where I could leave a message and then another message came and said that the box was full and could not accept any more messages and then another message stating that an error occurred.

The call came from the above number, but I was told to call back 213-256-0408. This is really freaking me out and I don't know what to do.

Can someone help me out?

These guys called me six times in one day, one right after the other with threats from arrest to being the Attorney General.  I don't know what they are the attorney general of but they are rude, obnoxious and call me at work.  They must be stopped, this is ridiculous.  Everyone had a different american name even though they were all Indian!  Seriously bad people.

OK.  Now I am scared.  I am late on a payday loan, so when I received a call from this number and they were all threatening, I gave them a payment.  I asked for a copy of the affadavit and they said they would once it cleared. I feel like an idiot, but they were really pushy.  I have called my bank and they will block my payment. What I'm nervous about is they seemed to have a lot of information on me...

okay, for one thing, you really can't spell, so to me, I think you are part of this scamming operation to trick decent folks into paying these foreign bastards money. Besides that, the Attorney General's Office does not threaten people when it comes to "payday loans" get your s**t straight

Nice to see that I wasn't the only guy around getting these types of calls.  Those that answer on the other end of the line are complete and total a**holes.  Yes, a**holes.  They don't identify themselves in any shape, way or form.  They are only out to separate you from your hard-earned money.  By law, a collection agency sends to send to you, the debtor, a written notification that they are attempting to collect a debt.  You then have 30 days to have a certified letter delivered to their office to dispute the debt.

These jokers will

# 1 - never send you that notification
# 2 - never provide you with the address to send a dispute to

Report the call to the FTC.  They will give you a reference number.  Report the call to your state's Attorney General.  Report the call to your local police.

For $5 I tracked down the last five known addresses on file for the number.  You can do this as well.  Honestly, it won't do you any good because its likely a number for a prepaid wireless phone Boost or Virgin Mobile service.  The number is properly set up to automatically forward calls to another number located in a completely different part of the country, or the globe.  If you get the number shut off, they will just change area codes and try again.

Since telling the guy on the phone that I've reported to all the local law enforcement, the Attorney General and the FTC I haven't received another call.  If you prove to them that you are smarter than them - which really isn't that difficult to do, they ARE retarded after all - they back off.  They only want someone that is wiling to give them an account number and routing number from their bank or do a wire transfer.

I asked the fu*&er for there licence number and there information and he told me he did not have to give it to me. that is bull $h!t. by law any gov agency has to give there information to you to prove who they are. If you get a call from this number to not let them finish to call hang up on them.

This number calls me every couple days and they call from a different number each time. They think they can be blocked off caller id but it shows up on my work number. I have reported them to the police and they have tracked down the LA police and have a location. They are robbers who try to steal people's credit. The funny thing is they are so f***ing stupid the way they go about it. Can't even speak English, don't give a company name, give fake famous people's names when they call, and ask for social security number. How dumb can you be?

You aren't a legal firm. You have been reported to the FBI and the Attorney General who have proved you are not a legal firm. You pay money to buy names and numbers of people and call them and act like they are in some sort of legal trouble so you can try to steal their identity. Maybe if you were from American you would realize that people aren't that freaking stupid.

I suggest you be careful because Dateline NBC will show up at your place sometime soon and you are being watched..crooks.

I am so fed up with you people "mark thomnpson" - you and your partners in crime have been calling and harassing me for 4 months - always from different names and number - but same accent and ridiculous story "we are downloading warrents against you" "your references will be arrested also" This is all grabage and what you are threatening to do is illeagal!!! You sound like idiots on the phone spouting all this goobldyguck legal phrases.  Not one debt you people have accused me of has proven valid - in fact I know have a stockpile of letters form all the companies you claim I owe saying they have never heard of me and I owe no debt to them.  Each time you call I file all the numbers and names yopu use with the FBI, the FTC Homeland Security and my state attroney general and I post your flim-flam story on every website I can find.  I cannot wait until you people are caught and get the punishment you so richly deserve for all the misery you are putting so many people through. Remember - what you put out in the world comes back to you twice over - so I guess I should say "good luck to you as the situation unfolds"
