i too received a call from david cooper claiming to be a us marshal. He said I was to be arrested and sent to jail.  Boy this guy is something else.  So I though to myself lets have a little fun with this guy, since i knew it was a scam.  I had this guy on the phone for 10 minutes and laughed so hard i nearly peed my pants.  The next three days, i keep calling him and asking him when i will be arrested.  He hung on me, so I called him back, which i think he did not like.  I then called the Los Angles us marshals office to let them know what was going, on.  I think I might call the scam guy back in about a week and so more fun.

This man has been calling me for months. He always has gotten my answering machine but tonight I decided to answer the phone. A man with a middle eastern accent was on the phone line. He said he was a paralegal working for a law firm. He said his name was John and it was very important I get in touch with him. He was not professional at all (demanding I talk to him NOW, literally his word "now). When I asked about the information he acted surprised that I haven't been served yet. He wouldn't tell me any information about a supposed lawsuit against me. Finally, he gave me the same number to call with an extension 346 to speak with a Mr. David Cooper. He said to keep calling if I did not get in touch with Mr. Cooper.

So, I did just that. Finally, after about ten times, someone answered the phone. He asked for my phone number to see my reference. Finally he came up with my name and said I had taken out a pay day loan in March of 2011. When I informed him I didn't he wouldn't give me a specific date. He stated it had been placed in my account but I never paid, which I didn't do. When I demanded paper work or some form stating what I owed and which company was suing me he stated I would be arrested tomorrow and expedited to California. He noted I was disabled and I said "yes, I am" and then promptly informed me my social security check would not be coming next month. Then I informed him I am not on social security. He said "but we have you as disabled" and I explained I was on private disability as a teacher. When I asked for the paper work, again, he said he could e-mail it to me. So, I accepted that and he placed me on hold and then hung up on me. This is a huge scam!

Got a call from this number and also another call just like it from another individual from a blocked number.  I have had a Internet pay day loan in the past and is probably how they obtain my information.  Best bet is to close my checking account and re-open another one seeing how the loan is paid and it is very possible that when obtaining that short-term loan that my information was sold to a mass amount of companies legitimate and fraudulent alike.  Beware; this is a scam.  They may have pieces of your information or in some cases ALL of your information that you may have provided to the Internet loan querey used to obtain the short-term loan.

I just received a call from some foreign guy telling me I was going to be arrested either at work or at my home, and he said he was calling from the Attorney Generals office or Federal office, I couldn't make it out too  well, about fraud. I told him I didn't know what he was talking about, he said you didn't know you were being sued, no.He wanted to know if I had an attorney and I said no.  He told me to hang up right then and call Robin Ross or David Cooper, and don't stop calling until I reach someone. I thought I would look the number up first, and I am glad I did. Just putting my 2 cents worth in.

Got two calls from this number on my cell phone today left to very nasty messages - a Ricky Jordan said I must return the call as soon as I received the message, there were three lawsuits against me.  He wanted to verify my attorney's information etc.  Crazy especially since today was the first time the number has called me at all.  Then the same number left a message with my place of employment saying it was a legal matter.  NUT CASE!!!  I will be reporting the number and situation to my local athorities and anyone else who needs to be contacted.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

Notify your banking institutions.
Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

I just got a call from this number from a man named David Cooper and he said that I needed to pay over $700 in 30 minutes or I was going to be arrested today for 3 counts of fraud and I would be sent to prison in California. I was freaked out until I called an lawyer and I found this website with all this information on it. That was crazy but I am glad that I found it that it wasn't real. Be careful everyone!

I have been getting similar calls in previous weeks, but with different motives. the last call was telling me that I qualified for a government loan. Some accents.

I think it's the same call center.

Do they really think I'm that dumb?

I'd advise for people to reset their phones if they answered this call on their cell phones. If they are that desperate they might be siphoning information from your cell phone, or tracking you...
