Seems these con artists are getting a little smarter....have had two calls in a week from caller i.d.#0110000000000.  A fellow with an OBVIOUS East Indian accent asked specifically for me and he also told me that my Windows App is "leaking information".  Since there is more than one computer at my residence I asked him which computer he was calling about....he stated that it is the one that the "Windows App" is registered to (my name).  It bothers me that he had my correct name but I still refused to give him any information and told him that he is a liar (which he quickly refuted) and I hung up on him.

Prank Call
number was different, but think from the same scammers VirtualPCSupports.com
804-435-5311 also had another number from 213 area code.

They used TeamViewer remote software to get into the clients computer. They tried to charge him over $900 for their bogus services. They claimed to be from Dell and some government agency.

Called my cell number. Thick Indian accent. Said he was with Microsoft and that my husband had registered my cell number with them. Wanted me to go to a web address. I asked for his phone # because it showed "unavailable" Gave me 213 261 7441.  I called it from home line while he was still connected and it went to an answering machine with an undecernable message with a thick accent.  I asked his name and he said Chris Nelson. (yeah, right). I hung up. He called back on my cell and my home line. I said I was reporting him to the authorities and he hung up.

I am, by trade, an Information Technology professional. I work with computers, and design applications that work with and over the internet. For the record. I know a bit about what I am about to say.

If you receive a call from this number, DO NOT allow them ANY KIND of access to your computer.

DO NOT:

do not - bother to talk to them
do not - let them direct you to take ANY action on your computer
do not - pay them ANYTHING
do not - by ANY means, let them direct you to go to a web site and click ANY link whatsoever
do not - be nice to them
do not - give them ANY personal information about yourself, not even your name
do not - give them any information about your computer, or your email address
do not - provide them with ANY credit card, debit card, or check information
do not - give them ANY information. They are trying to steal from you or infect your computer.
do not - listen to anything they have to say

The company associated with this number as of July 2011 is Kenoxis Systems. Kenoxis CLAIMS to be a PC support service, as well as many other things.

They are deliberately vague about their company name and who they are and what they do,

They will try to allude to being involved in some way with Microsoft and will bring your attention to several graphics at the bottom of their web page that are meant to convince you that they are somehow involved with Microsoft. The graphics are ONLY pictures on a web page. The certifications they represent are certifications for an INDIVIDUAL to begin with, not for a company. There is no proof that the people on the phone even hold those certifications in the second place.

Do not be duped by these people.

They are scam artists.. no.. actually not artists.. just scammers. They are not even that good at scamming. They use peoples' basic ignorance of the complexities of the Windows operating system against them in order to create a panic and then ask the victim to subscribe to a service contract.

Their practice is to call a home number and direct the computer owner to open the Event Viewer in Windows. The event viewer is a program that logs all of the errors that occur, on a regular basis, within the Windows operating system. As an end user, you do not SEE these errors taking place, but they happen all the time in the background. Once they have the victim looking at the "OMG.. Look at all those errors!!!" list of errors in event viewer, the scammer will tell the victim that there are many serious problems with their Windows PC, and ask them to go to a website and download remote access software and start a session so that the scammer can gain access to the target computer.

DO NOT allow them access to your computer.

Once you have, the scammer / hacker / criminal on the other end of the line has complete control over your computer.. as much as you yourself would, sitting in front of it. You will see them moving your mouse icon around and clicking on things. HOWEVER.. they can easily be loading malicious software onto your system in the background without you seeing a hint of it.

I do not know if the purpose of their scam is simply to social engineer their way in and then convince the victim to subscribe to a completely unneeded service, padding Kenoxis's pockets in the process, or if in fact they are dropping malicious programs onto target machines. The types of programs that CAN be loaded without your knowledge can do any of the following, without you ever knowing it:

* allow the scammer full access to your system whenever they want
* ruin data on your system
* scour your system for information such as credit card info, email account info, banking info, social security numbers, etc. all of which can be used to steal from you or perpetrate identity theft against you
* log your keystrokes as you perform "secure" transactions online, thereby giving the scammer your username and password to sites like your bank, your credit card, email accounts, and anything else you log on to either over the internet or locally on your machine
* use your computer as part of their illicit activities on the internet to either send massive number of spam emails to further their own ends, or use your system more nefariously to attack other systems across the internet

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE, WHAT THEY SAY, OR THEIR INTENTIONS.

NEVER allow an unknown person access to your computer.

When someone is vague about who they are, who their company is, or what they do EXACTLY.. something is amiss.

You should ALWAYS insist on the company name, their location, their contact telephone number, the representative's full name, their extension or id, and you should ensure that you can call them back at that number. In this case, you can call them back.. but that does not mean they are who they want you to believe they are.

The individual I spoke with MISREPRESENTED himself, his company, what they do, how they do it, where they are located, and what relationship if any they have with Microsoft.

They have no relationship with Microsoft.

And frankly, although the United States really is a melting pot of cultures.. the individual I spoke with has a very distinct INDIAN accent. He is FROM India. You don't pick that accent up if you grew up in the US. It doesn't work that way. He claimed that his name was Andrew Wilson, and that he is in California.

His name is not Andrew Wilson. They don't usually name newborn boys Andrew Wilson in INDIA. They have a whole bunch of Indian names to choose from. Therefore, he misrepresented even his NAME. That is enough right there to make this person untrustworthy.

BOTTOM LINE (literally) ---> DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE CALLING YOU FROM THIS NUMBER.

Sir,
Its true that the organization does error handling with Microsoft Windows. You should understand they try to do remote desktop sharing in an ethical way which can be done unethically very easily. So this is the biggest proof of genuinity of those persons because I myself is an IT professional and I am happy with the services that they provide over the phone. And , yes its true that Macafee or Norton is not able to deactivate or even detect this file. They know what actually do harm the windows operating system.

Reading all this stuff I got frightened and called them back because I had paid for the support. They do receive the call and solve the problems that you have and they are actually the microsoft certified engineers because they can exactly tell you about the twist and turns of your computer just by retracing your IP Address. My computer had trojan horse which was successfully removed by them that even Norton was not able to do completely. My computer's problem is solved now.

Hey, this guys of tel# 213-261-7441 are KEEP calling past 2 wks, greatly HARM my business, (cause they don't take NO for an answer) and basically, harassing me. (Also they had a BIG RUDE attitude.) I ask them to send me an written documentations to proof that we(my business) are having a problem, and IF they're truly from Microsoft DEPT. Because I do have own computer engeneering people who take cares of my computer system, comes to my office every 2wks to ck up viruses and other things. My people informs me of any other details via clear, written Paperwork, and explains what's going on in a very careful, professional manner. BUT what these people of so called Microsoft  told me is that they cannot correspond via email or fax or mail, to send me the proof, and they can ONLY indicate the direction via phone calls!! I asked them to contact my computer person to handle this matter, but instead they insists me to deal with them. VERY Suspicious behavior, isn't it?? And I don't want to get involved with frauds anymore, so I really need to see they are indeed Microsoft people. and One more thing, FYI: I called to Microsoft tech 800 # and asked if there is a dept like this and you know what? the answer is NO.

This has to be a scam, I have gotten 2 calls this past week on my cell phone. The number that displays on caller ID is 101267.  The caller has a strong/thick Indian accent and the call quality is very poor. He claims he is from Microsoft and that I have had errors on my computer that have been detected by "Microsoft"...but he can not tell me my external IP address or send me a email.  He gave me a call back number of 213-261-7441.  After I hung up I called AT&T to see if they could me a real number that this call came from.  AT&T were not able to see any calls to my phone from ANY number since three hours earlier, so we checked the previous day I had calls from this poser and NOTHING, NADDA...so they are somehow completely circumventing even AT&T's technology! Just consider yourself warned...Don't listen to the broken English crooks posting here trying to legitimatize their scam...If you live in the US and have an issue with your computer take it to a qualified AMERICAN IT professional...don't trust these people with your hard earned money.

this man identified himself as jack morgan, i also found other ppl stating the same thing. he had a strong accent and it was hard for me to believe this was his name. he then asked my name age and if he could look at my photos to see what i looked like. if this is a real company which i strongly disagree with then he SHOULD never asked to see my personal photos this made me shut my computer off instantly and phone the police.

well i called the police and they were unable to trace the number so im sure it is. they also asked if they could look at personal photos to see what i looked like. NO microsoft employee should ask this and if they do they should be fired. how am i suppose to trust someone over the phone
when they are asking such personal things. there were a number of other red flags as well.

I wonder how much Paul and the other guys are being paid to say all these nice things about this random company. They are not part of Microsoft, and yet, call themselves Microsoft Affiliates. That is very odd. Trying to get legitimacy by affiliation of the name. I think that's illegal in the US, but again, I have talked to several so called representatives, all of whom have Indian accents.

Well ol' shyam_sh1984 has been calling for days now.  I call him Shyam the Scam.  When I asked for the IP address of my machine he started by giving me the telephone number as the first octet.  He gave me 2 different support ticket numbers, I had to ask for them and this confused him.  What an idiot, I kept him on the phone just to waste his time.  Please people don't be fooled by this.  Microsoft does not call there customers to tell them their home PC has a problem.  I've been MS certified since 1996 and have worked as a support engineer since 1988 and NEVER has Microsoft Support called because your PC does not have any way of linking to you telephone number!  Besides they had no idea what my IP address was on my PC.  Caller ID 441212884545 is a scam.

Thank you for that Jeff, finally someone with some common sense chimed in.  I just got a call from Paul Nelson claiming to be from Microsoft Tech Support.  Paul went further to tell me my computers were leaking my personal information and were infected with a Trojan Virus.   I too am a MS Cert Tech for 13 years.  I totally felt this guy was suspect, I took his info down, as if I would call back later when I got in front of my computer.

I called right back to 213/261-7441 number they gave me from another phone I have just as anyone would probably do just to confirm the source.  I asked to speak to Paul, Saeed said he was unavailable.  Saeed also claiming to be Microsoft Tech answered the phone Microsoft Tech support, provided his name Saeed.  Both with India Dialects.  I questioned about their knowledge how they could know a computer was indicted from their location, and my computer was leaking personal info?  He then proceeded to tell me about the different tech support packages at $88.00 and $100.00.  If I wanted them to assist me further, immediately replied now why would I do that I'm a tech myself and can fix my own computer issues.  I told him further more I don't believe the call was to alert me of infections on my computer.  Saeed replied when Paul gets free he would have him call me back at the number appearing on the caller id display.  I told him no need.

I just kept them on the line until they got sick of me.  I asked if they ever met Bill.  They said they are a small empire and are here to help.  Ha Ha Ha...  not funny for the poor folks who get scammed by them.   Anyhow, hopefully people will listen to us more than the scammers who are putting up bogus comments about how good the support was.  What a pain in the a** though, I just wish they'd stop calling my house with their horrible english.

Leaking information is what they told my wife as well.

ALL ENGLISH SPEAKING PEOPLE.  PLEASE LISTEN.  IF YOU SPENT ANY MONEY WITH THEM CALL YOUR CC COMPANY NOW AND DISPUTE THE CHARGE.  THEN CALL A FRIEND OR MAYBE EVEN THE "GEEK SQUAD" TO COME GET THE VIRUS THESE PEOPLE JUST INSTALLED ONTO YOUR COMPUTER.
