OF COURSE YOUR HUSBAND IS LOOKING FOR AN AFFAIR.  IT IS SAD BUT TRUE.  I JUST TALKED TO MY BOYFRIEND TO CANCEL THAT SUBSCRIPTION AND TO FIX HIS PROBLEM.

It is Ashely Madison.  As a Single guy I purchased a membership on the site and a week later found the charge on my card.  I was not sure what the charge was so I looked it up and found this forum.  I then realized it was from my purchase at Ashely Madison.

It is possible the company runs payments for other services but it does indeed run for Ashley Madison as well.

Spouses should know better.  When I was involved we had 4 bank accounts.  One for her, one for me, one joint and one business.  We both direct deposited $600 into the joint per check to pay bills and the rest was ours to do what we pleased.  She would have never known if I had made this charge while together.

I found this charge on my credit card statement and thought it was suspicious.

A quick search and Ashley Madison seems to be the answer. Since I'm not a member, this immediately made me wonder if my wife was having an affair. From what I've read it definitely seems that Ashley Madison bills their charges as AMDB, but I've also read a lot of posts indicating that other companies use this code. Not sure what to believe, but Ashley Madison seems the more likely answer.

Only problem with this theory is that this is on my card, linked to an account in my name. My wife never uses it for anything. She has two credit cards of her own (one linked to her own account and one to our joint account). So there is no reason at all for her to use my credit card for this. She makes enough money not to have to do this anyway and it would be very stupid to use my card for something like this. It's not like she could have confused it for her card either as mine is with a different bank.

I don't really know what this is yet, but I don't remember making any such purchase on the day in question and have reported it to my bank as a fraudulent transaction. I suspect this is just what it is. If you look back at the thread here, it's clear that people can get caught out by this charge, so it makes sense that someone trying to purchase this service would want to do so with a stolen card or details.

I had a big scare here, but I trust my wife and I'm pretty sure this wasn't her. I have asked her about it and she didn't know what it was either and she also didn't try to make up any strange stories. When I told her I've picked up on the internet that it's an internet dating site she also thought the obvious answer would be fraud.

Lesson for everybody: Don't go assuming that your spouse is having an affair because of this, it might very well be credit card fraud (there is certainly motive).

All you responders who are arguing that AMDB is anything but Ashley Madison are lying to try to cover your own a***s when your wife catches the charge on your credit card statements. "See honey? It could be a charge from a magazine subscription, or an airline ticket, or lots of things. It says it right here!"

Truth is, the charge is from Ashley Madison and Ashley Madison alone.

Let me ask you this: Why are you on here arguing so vehemently for some other answer? How did you find yourselves here in the first place? Do you just make it your business to look up random charge codes online and dispute their origins for fun?

Anyone arguing that it's not Ashley Madison has skin in the game. And it's likely because they got caught.

I found a charge on a CC too. But if you go to Ashleymadison.com and sign up there is no where is asks for your CC info. You can be a member for free. It is indeed CC fraud!

These are legitimate charges that are from debit card companies.  They process magazines, stores, and others places.

Well, the last several users are correct.  This is a commonly used code in the debit card world.  I also worked in this industry (at a bank in the 1980's)........

So not true. You all need to stay calm.  There are many reasons for this charge -- maybe it's for dating sites, but many many many other places use the AMDB code.  It's really a code for merchant carriers.  It's a fairly standard code that is used in purchasing debit transactions.  I worked at a credit card for many years, and I can promise you that this is truly nothing to freak out over.  It's often used to process debit transactions where there is an out-of-state shipper of goods, but it's used for many purposes, including at businesses who are charging repeat charges.

You are all really insane.  I have checked into this extensively and this charge is also for a lot of merchant carriers of credit cards - and its good for magazines, stores and a few other places.  this is truly a conspiracy theory that you have all created.  I really have looked into this...

if you're smart you will check your home computers or your spouses' phone for bbm or any kind of chatting software that is out there. you can delete the history but check the cookies. when logging into either hotmail, gmail or yahoo, your computer will automatically save any accounts you have on there, so go through the alphabet and see if there are any other accounts set up. that will be a red flag. then email the account under a false one you create and see if they take the bait.
if they are on the site it's likely they have already cheated. sorry but it's pretty easy to find someone since they are all looking for the same thing.

Sorry, Kathy...but AMDB in Wilmington DOES process payments for Ashley Madison. I'm sorting through my statement right now and saw two charges, one for $79 (which buys instant messaging credits) and another for $20 (which is what they charge for their "Traveling Man" feature which sends emails to women in the city where you are going). I know because I remember making those charges. Perhaps you should join yourself and get some revenge on him! ;)

Just to help you all out the fees for Ashley Madison as of 2/2012 run like this; $249, $149, $79. When you first start they charge and additional new member fee that they say is an 800 calling service of around $10 to $20. They occasional run a "try it for only" sale of $49.

If you are married and you see a $249, $149 or $79 then your spouse is beyond a new member since they are not being charged that extra fee anymore. They are basically buying credits to use to chat and send messages and pics to other cheaters in your area, and when you sign up with a credit card they say you will be "Decreetly billed" . The site promotes people having an affair, so if AMDB pops up on your credit card, and your married, you spouse it actively looking to cheet on you.

If your single, some cheater stole you credit card #.

I just freaked out at my husband for this amdb charge- and then after I looked into it more carefully it is actually a charge used for multiple purposes on the internet. Many companies perform transactions via this amdb site. Turns out the charge for us was for a tool belt and insurance on an airline ticket. Don't freak out people.
