I am pretty sure this number is associated with the calling cards that are given to inmates who are in prison or jail. i tried calling it back and it just rings and rings .....

Received call 7/24/07 8:47pm but did not answer due to not recognizing the caller ID "Prison" or the phone number 213-346-9480. I tried to call back the number from another phone but kept getting busy signal.

I received a call at 9:05 today, 06/29/2009. It was all in Spanish.  I tried to tell them thst I did not speak Spanish but it must have been a recording because they never answered. The call came in a second time and it was just as before. My number is 414-333-0715

The area code means nothing, if you want to know where the person is that is calling you answer the phone and the recording will tell you what jail they are calling from. I live in Maryland and the person that calls me from this number is in jail in Jessup Maryland. It's just a number they give all the imates. To track down the location of the person you will just have to answer!

if an inmate calls me from this # it doesnt mean his in Los Angeles, California... right ? He could be in another state .... even tho the area code 213 is from Los Angeles..

Bc it can be his case is from Minnesota...

How do I find out what particular jail this number comes from in the Los Angeles area?  Need to know!

I was called from this number this morning.  Didn't answer because I didn't recognize the number.  Now I feel terrible because a dear friend is in jail and was trying to contact me.  I haven't heard from her in 2 weeks and didn't know what was going on.  Crap!  I have no way to contact her, just have to wait until she tries again.

Call referenced Christopher Carter at Denton, TX County Jail. Called the Jail and gave the info to the Sargent. Received a second call in the voice mail, no name or jail, just options..chose #6 to stop calls.

this # calls my cell several times a day. The message says the caller hung up. I am certain this is a scam of some sort. Has anyone herd of "tagging" off of someones phone minutes?

Just received a call from "Prison"..Saw it on my caller ID and didn't answer.. So I Googled it..Not even going to try to call it back..I have a sneaking suspicion that it's this dude from Arkansas that my best friend used to date until he moved back there. He said that he was going out to Cali to live with his mother. Just glad that she dumped his dead beat a$$..Yea, he was a drug dealer. Such a jerk to her and now he wants to call her for help from prison!?! HA! What Goes Around Comes Around eh?

Apparently this is a calling card company that sales calling cards to county jails and prisons. I know because a family member just called me with this number showing on the caller ID and I live in Iowa so apparently they sale them all over the U.S.

I have recieved calls form this # associated with calling cards. When I call it back, ....It just rings and rings.....did not answer the call due to not knowing this number on my caller ID ......listened to my message......seems like a prison........

Got 3 calls tonight within 15 minutes - didn't answer because I was on the phone with someone else... then find out through here that it's probably an inmate calling card????   Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Update.  Was from Denver County Jail... but was a wrong number.   Whew.  :)

You're probably better off answering the call.  It is a number used by all correctional institutes across the country.  Someone is calling you from a jail.  I know becaue I know someone in jail that called me on this number last night.  It's the calling card company that the jails use.  If you want to block the number, I suggest talking to your phone company to block it or find out what correctional institute the person is at (when you answer, it says, "You have a call from _________.  This call is from (Correctional Institute Name).  To accept the call, press "0"."  If you find out what the jail name is, you could call them and tell them what's going on...maybe they can do something??  Just tryin to help out...I was weirded out when I first saw the number, but now that I know, I always answer...friends in need.

Just received a call fro this 213-346-9480, on March 21, 2008. Some girl crying in back ground like she needed help or to talk to someone. Didn't accept the call because I wasn't familiar with the area code/number or who this could possibly be.

I got this call from a prison in Cali and I have No idea who or why they would even call me....

I received two calls from this number at my office phone.  The first time I just hung up.  The second time I listened to all the prompts.  There was an option to block all calls from this number, so I pressed 6 to block all calls.

they called me at lease 4 times in like 5 minutes its was a automated voice that i could not understand but if it is from a jail then i have no clue why i would get called from there

my mom got this call at 12am then again the next day at 7 & 9:55pm we suspect its my daughters sperm donnor and that he's in jail or something and needs help so we just blocked it

your oponion is completely f****d up! just beause you think you are perfect, doesnt mean that everyone is. my husband is in prison. do you think he shouldnt be able to call his 3 year old son on a day to day basis? f*** you for thinking your so perfect and fo looking down on those of us who arent. its people like you who truly dont have a heart.

This is a correctional facility call center.  first the recording comes on so you have the option of accepting or rejecting.  its a prepaid call, not collect.  it can be from someone from any state prison, so if you have relatives or friends locked up, it could be one of them calling you.
sometimes it cuts you off before you can even start talking, but most of the time I can have a 20 minute conversation with my loved one.  it is not a scam.

Yeah, I actually have a former buddy of mine who has been stocking me for the past year or so. Well finally he got locked up, but he gets out of jail to go to college once a day on the week days so he usually calls me on his cell. I never answer but he calls me every day. Today I'm pretty sure he called me from that 1(213) Number. I'd hate to block it considering other people may call me using it, but I might just do so.

i didnt think it was my fiance because of the area code and i didnt answer cuz i dont usually answer calls i dont know but it left his name on my voicemail and now i dont know how to get back in touch with him. any ideas?

We are getting these same phone calls all the time!!
