Once you get into their database, there is no way out, it seems. I have asked them many times to remove me from their list and was assured that they will do that. I have emailed them and asked that as well. They still call me several times per week. Not picking up does not work either - they do not seem to give up. And "do not call" list does not apply them, because they are non-profit.
And these people will not do a thing about environment. It is a so-called "social welfare" non-profit organization (501(c)(4)) that spends the money on lobbying. They are not normal charity (which is 501(c)(3)). Donations to them are not tax-deductible.
Don't support them and tell others.

Just found this on another website re: Environment California:
""This is something you must all know: Environment California IS the same organization as "The Fund for the Public Interest" (formerly known as The Fund for Public Interest Research).
While Sierra Club and HRC are separate organizations from The Fund, the scam groups such as Environment California, CalPirg, along with dozens of other State Environment and PIRG groups, all fall under The Fund umbrella. That means that donors are getting scammed at more than one angle. Their name isn't even going on the donor list of a legitimate organization. Environment California doesn't spend a dime on the issues and has only one lobbyist registered with the State of California, Dan Jacobson, whose job it is to make appointments with wealthy donors in their homes so he can convince them to put Environment California in their wills or make even larger contributions. The entire organization is a joke and they rely on the one measly photo-op with the governor a year in order to look legitimate.
Doug Phelps is executive director of The Fund for the Public Interest (guilty of numerous labor violations and recently forced to settle a class action lawsuit for $2.5 million for FAILING TO PAY MINIMUM WAGE) and is also the owner and president of Grassroots Inc, another canvassing operation that fundraises for so-called progressive groups. As if that isn't bad enough, Doug also owns Telefund, a telephone canvassing operation that does the same thing.
Everything with Doug Phelps' name attached to it is criminal and fraudulent.
Do not ever work or donate money to these . . . .

Called home twice 4/14/14, the latest after 9PM. An extended family passed away unexpectedly over the weekend, and to have the phone ring that late (yes, 9PM is late when you get up at 4AM!) is disconcerting. Have also called in the past, and I do not recall anyone in my household joining "Environment California"-ever. I suspect it is a telemarketer for solar power, (Environment California's ph # is 213-251-3688) as we have been receiving dozens of unsolicited calls for solar home improvement over the last few weeks. My phone has call blocking for 30 numbers only and it is full, so looks like will have to buy a phone with call-blocking for 250 numbers this weekend, as the calls are out of control.

FWIW:
I suppose anything is possible, but the number is provisioned by Paetec Communications, and Peerless is a competing CLEC. Kind of like AT&T calling you on a Sprint phone. Possibly there is some relationship between the two entities I am unaware of - these things get pretty intertwined. It may also be that your app has the data munged, and that it is showing who the telephony provider is, as opposed to the actual caller.

My White Pages app says it's Peerless Network. I googled it & got a website called "CrunchBase" that says
"Peerless Network, founded in 2008, is a fully-funded, privately-held company focused on simplifying the interconnection process for telecommunication companies, service providers and enterprises via innovative end office, tandem, and advanced routing services."
I still don't know why they'd be calling me (I didn't answer it & there was no message.)

they are at it again. 9pm is not acceptable, I work at midnight.
but i refuse to give them a ringtone so i miss every call.
if i gave them money in the past, it was because of a
pretty girl at the door who seemed like she was freezing cold doing her job.
it's a hard sell over the phone dummies

If you call this number, you will see that it is Environment California, an upstanding environmental group, which usually calls its members.

BTW - just because I took my name off the call list doesn't mean I don't support them. Environment California is an excellent charity. They do things to protect coastal sea life, state parks, and they promote solar energy.
I didn't want to send the wrong impression. I highly recommend them as a charity. http://www.environmentcalifornia.org/

I don't receive many spam calls, but I've been called by this number several times in the last month. I'm already a member of Environment California. They sent a brochure in the mail recently and a solicitor came to the door, so I know they are on a fund drive. Makes sense that they would call members to get contributions.
I called back as D suggested. The recording seems legit, so I left my number. I'll report back here if I get flooded with junk calls, but I'm kinda thinkin' that's not gonna happen.

if i was a modern high tech organized crime network,,, i would have a system where we would call numbers repeatedly and take notes this system would covertly (unknown to the person being called) over time build a data base of who is at home and answeringtheir phone ,,, using technology i could have an automated system call thousands of numbers every day,,, over time and by compareing data colected from other seemingly unrelated bogus numbers ,,, my crime network now has a low cost low over head way of compiling a hit list for any number of unscrupulious activities,,,,,, think about it your or maybee our government is using a similar system already,,,,, building a profile and maping regular behavior over time,,,,even if it is just answering or not answering,,,, this is just one part of a data grabing maping monster ,,,,

this number has also called my personal cell phone number over the past month repeatedly, also between 7 and 9pm, but i've also received calls in the afternoon, but never leaving a voicemail.
annoyed, i texted one night, "who is this?" but with no response.
DO NOT PICK UP OR RETURN THE CALL from this number. something weird is going on if there are other people with the same issue.
what can be done about this? does this web site then report this to someplace who can do some investigating?

Are you one of the scammers or just a fool (or both)?
When you call scammers back and give them your number under the pretense of having it removed from their list, you are merely confirming it and making it more valuable to them to sell and trade it with their fellow scammers. Thus you will get more junk calls.
Thank you. You're done indeed,
