Got a call while on the computer from a man with a decidedly Indian accent. He was asking about my computer that I am using in my home. I hung up on him before he could ask any questions.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

rcvd a phone call from them while I was on the computer, kept asking to speak to my parents, even though I am 30 years old, again keep asking me if my computer is broken and wanting me to go to my computer. Explained that I would call them back if I needed something, asking for a number, and he would not provide it.

Did a little further checking.  The number comes out to a Panda Global Communications in California.  But the number was obtained thru TollFreeFowarding.com.  This company provides 800 and local numbers to "businesses) all over the world.  So your caller id may say the call is from Dallas but they're actually in London.

I think this is the same people who called me about a month ago from a restricted number claiming to be from Microsoft.  They called me over and over for about three weeks telling me that my computer was in danger of crashing and they have been receiving reports from the computer about errors.

I talked to Microsoft via their website and they told me they don't contact customers like that and that it was most likely a scam.  Something wrong with your computer, you contact them not the other way around.

They talked to my mom and conviced her that a certificate on the computer had expired and that for $99 they could renew it for 2 yrs.  First they tried to get the money from PayPal but PayPal wouldn't transfer the funds.  Then they conviced her to use Western Union.  The bank froze the transaction and called because they weren't trying to take $99 but $500.  The scammers tried to tell my mom that it was mistake that would be corrected once the transfer took place.  Bank told her that was crap and disconnect with these people.

Today (9/18/12) they called again from this number with the same pitch.  I know it is them because it's the same bad speaking English heavy on the Indian accent people (and the same sells pitch line).  I know a lot of companies have out-sourced to India for call-centers, but one of criteria for working there is that your accent can't be too heavy for customers to understand you.  Add to that if Microsoft really wanted to contact you, they would send an email.

Be carefull.  I was told by a Microsoft tech  that these people are getting your information through a back door program from either websites or pop-ups.  They even stuck fake error messages on my computer to try and convince me something was wrong with it.  Microsoft said that they were just fake titles with nothing behind them.

My advise, if these loosers call you, hang up, and take your computer somewhere to get completely debugged and examined for malware.
