Thanks for explaining your reasoning--now I understand the purpose. Hope others find it--it IS quite buried in the archives. If you post it on some of the current medic alert scam numbers it will be appreciated by more folks--the 212 area code contains many numbers currently in usage.

It's a classic, and I like the way the OP transcribed the original recording, being careful to preserve the 'uh's which points out just how ridiculous 'Emergency Medical Alert' scammer is.

All of the numbers being posted have been "stale" for many months, are unlikely to be re-used, and "John" is seldom, if ever now used in the scam. Current numbers, being used, including, but not limited to, 212- 660- 3488.5251, 5351 and 9874 would be of much more value. Once a number disappears from the current message board (which usually occurs in 5 minutes or less) there is no reason a person would visit a "stale" number, thus the informative value is lost. I was not trying to be disruptive, but trying to get the most value out of all the work this poster is putting in.More current numbers are available if there is interest. HINT- check the 212- 660****posted numbers.

What is your purpose in reviving "John", when he hasn't been heard from in many months?

Here is the transcript verbatim:

"Hi, uh, this is John from the shipping department of Emergency Medical Alert, I was calling to uh schedule a delivery of your medical alert system, it's uh the "fallen, and I can't get up" type of system you've seen on TV. Looks like the system's been uh recommended by thousands of hospitals and medical professionals, uh, let's see, says here that the system's already been paid for. Looks like you're getting the system because uh either yourself, a friend, a family member or maybe even someone you know has experienced a fall in the past so uh again it's already been paid for so there's no cost to you whatsoever. Also says here that the shipping has already been paid for so to uh schedule the delivery of your Emergency Medical Alert System press 1 uh again to uh have your system shipped out to you press 1 now...press 5 to decline the shipment of your system." [other male voice] "If you already have a medical alert system please disregard this message. Again if you already have a medical alert system please disregard this message."

Is there no way to stop these scammers? Just since 7/12 they have called from three different numbers:
818-471-4969
800-288-2020
213-519-5751

Overall I have recorded their use of twelve different numbers since last October with multiple calls from each number. If this is not harassment I guess I don?t know what harassment means.
This is apparently a California company making calls within California ignoring both Cal PUC and Federal regulations.

Try to block them and it works for a while but they just switch their calling number and the calls continue.

They call and do not leave message. I don't answer because they have no caller ID. I blacklisted them with my OOMA.

I too received a call from this number for a prepaid medical alert.  Number came across my ID, but no name.  I too am subscribed to No Call list, but still getting calls.  This one calls several times a week and I have been unable to stop it.  Total scam - we are just so tired of all of this.

Those of you who have received a telephone call from someone offering "free" medical alert systems should probably look at what KOMO-TV News in Seattle said about these scam calls.  There's even a video included with this article on their web site that has a recorded example of a phone call that was actually received from these scammers, complete with "ums," "uhs" and pauses, as though the voice at the other end was live:

http://www.komonews.com/news/consumer/Robocal ... -213212481.html

A more complete audio-only version of the robocall complete with the instructions to press "1" at the KOMO-TV reporter's own website:

http://www.consumerman.com/RoboCall.mp3

Those of you who have received these calls and answered them may want to listen to the recorded versions of the calls at either of the above two websites to compare what is recorded there with the call you experienced.

Reporter Herb Weisbaum notes that Life Alert (the REAL "I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up"(R) people) has posted a fraud warning about these scammers on their own website:

http://www.lifealert.com/fraudalert.aspx

I urge you to visit these sites for more information, but if you cannot do it for some reason, at least follow Mr. Weisbaum's tips on "How to beat the bad guys:"

"It's important to remember these fraud fighting tips. These apply to all unsolicited telemarketing calls:"

"    Never provide personal information to an unknown caller.
Never respond to a robocall from an unknown company.
Don't press a key to talk to a human. Simply hang up."

"Unfortunately, you can receive illegal robocalls even if your phone number is on the National Do Not Call registry. These calls are coming from crooks, often in a foreign country. They really don't care about violating the Do Not Call rules - that is, unless they get caught."

"If you've fallen for this medic alert scam, contact your bank or credit card issuer right away. Then file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, your state consumer protection office and the Federal Trade Commission."

/\--- My comment to this advice ---/\ is that you should report the call to the FTC and the FCC, of course, but if any action is taken at all, it will take some time.  Try calling your cell phone or landline carrier to find out how to block these calls (not all carriers, particularly some cell phone carriers, will let you do that, and some call it a "child lock" or another name that makes it hard for you to find it).  That's the best way, although some carriers charge extra $$$ for these services.  If you prefer, you can assign a silent ringtone to your cell phone when these numbers arrive, buy a phone that has call blocking capabilities, or subscribe to a service that dumps these calls for you.  The disadvantages of these latter options is that the call actually reaches your phone with most of them, and some cellular providers may charge you for airtime if the call is disposed of by your phone picking up the call and hanging up immediately or if the call goes to your voicemail because you didn't answer it.

I see this has been going on for over a year according to this web site.
We've been getting this call for weeks and other scam calls too.
Even if we don't answer it's still harassment and aggravating!

We have a lan line with an answering machine but it still
costs us to have caller ID so we can see not to answer.

I miss the old days when calls were only friends and family.

The phone companies don't want to be put in the position of being the "phone police".  Simple reason, it would cost them money to provide the service in addition to losing phone revenue from the offenders.  They have lobbied against every proposal to make them more accountable to their customers in this matter.

One can report the offenders to www.donotcall.gov but that is only a data base for investigators to look into.  It does get referenced but there is not way for a citizen to force the issue there.

We could lobby the congress for tougher laws and lobby the executive branch for better enforcement but that's about it.

My question is why can't our US Department of Justice catch these wicked, lying law violators.  This group has got to be the worst out of the worst, and trying to reach them is an impossibility. I've received numerous multiply daily calls from these crooks. We need to put more pressure on our government because they are not doing enough to protect us from these blatant criminals who are seriously financially abusing many incompetent seniors. I was told months ago by Comcast to click *57 to uncover the real names of these criminals, but by the time you follow through with Comcast's decipherable directions you get nowhere in trying to report the abuse to "your local police departments."  That *57 number is only another ruse to push us out of the way.

We have gotten at least twenty calls from Medical Alert in the last two months ...  The tell us that we have a free medical alert device, postage included ... Recorded message and then they ask you to push on  # 1 and when connected to that extension they request your credit card number I have requested them to not call me any more but the calls keep coming every evening.

After about 20 of these calls I had had enough.  So I hit "1" and talked to a rep.  I let them give their pitch which they said was 90 seconds but it seemed more like 3 min.
Then I kept asking who paid for the system (as the robo-call said it was already paid for).  They can't really answer that of course and keep trying to explain the "promotion".
Then I said since it was paid for a transaction must have been made and asked if they could send me the money instead.
When an agent spends time with you they don't want to give up and keep trying to explain it which was rather humorous.
Finally I let them know that since they had wasted so much of my time I'd decided to waste a little of theirs and asked to be taken off the list.  We'll see if that works.  I feel sorry for the agent who has such a crappy employer but all I can do is get back at their system.

I suggest we give this joker the address for our local police department. Waste their time and money on something that can't be delivered. Maybe that will lead to their being put out of business.

Caller stated they were ready to ship me my "Medic-Alert" which either I had ordered or a family member had. It was all paid for as was the postage. I ask to whom he was calling and he just kept on with his spiel . I told him not to call me and then hung up as I have not ordered any such device, nor had any family member.

Started receiving calls from this number. They reefuse to leave a message. After reading the messages up top I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that I bought a Medic Id. I wish they would leave a message so we can figure it out and they can stop calling me. I get bothered when people are impoliteand don't leave a message.

My elderly Mother keeps receiving these calls, despite already having this type of service which is included with her home alarm system. It's shameful how these scammers target the elderly.

Google voice caught this call and blocked it as spam.

I filed the complaint about this caller 213-519-5751 4th times. Today John call @18:34. He didn't release this recorded message about to deliver me " senior Medial Alert system." So many people filed complaints with www.800notes.com since 06/11/2011. Remember John used different area cods & numbers. To day, I told john: I am on do not call  list, so he didn't release his message. When I returned the call 1 minutes later. The message:" You reached the number not in service "  instead you may click #2 to remove my number.
