Telemarketer
Caller ID said "SURVEY."  Call quality was very poor so caller was hard to understand.  Wanted to talk to our IT manager to "verify our address" for a free subscription to CIO Magazine.  I asked if there was a website or something that we could look at to determine if we might be interested, but she said no and just went into her spiel.  At least she was polite when I asked her to remove our number from their calling list, but it sure took a while to get to that point.

Calls like this are not made by humans, but by computers, that's why no one says anything on the other end. The computer records the date and time you or your answering machine answers the phone. The company then sells their compiled list to other companies who now know the day and time of the week to call you with the best chance of you answering.

Your best bet is to note these calls and file the appropriate complaints with the DO NOT CALL LIST to build a history.

Hmmm ... interesting now that I read through all the comments.  I have taken Cabling Installation & Maintenance Mag in the past.  Maybe they want me to renew.  (Not going to happen.)  I didn't recognize the number so I didn't answer.  Wasn't my kids, parents or anyone I work with, so I don't answer.  Also, didn't recognize the area code.

I answered the first time they called - they claimed to be from a free trade publication that I receive (Quality Magazine). They wanted me to do a survey - I could barely understand the guy so I told him no and hung up. Now I have at least one call a day from this number or 213-537-1438, I assume they are related, I don't answer either one.

I have received several calls from this company over the past few MONTHS!  I usually do not answer the calls because I do not know the number.  I decided to answer last month when they called.  They are calling to renew a subscription to a free trade magazine I signed up for to get a promotion.  I told the rep I was not in the business anymore and to take me off the list, he seemed shocked I was not in the business!  lol  He just couldn't believe that!  I expected more calls over the next few days as it can take a while to get off of the list.  The next time they called I told the rep I asked to be removed from the list last time they called and they hung up on me!  OMG!  The calls did stop, until yesterday!  WTH?!?!   I don't want the mag!  STOP CALLING ME!  I asked to be removed from the list!  The next step is reporting them to the FTC!

Same modus operandi.  I have been getting repeated calls at work from this number, as well as from 4-5 other numbers from different area codes that may be part of the same network.  I'm guessing their link to me is that I did sign up for some free trade publications via e-mail a few years ago.  Several of these publications are useful to me in my work.  Unfortunately, once you're "on the list", the publishers want to try to shove 10 more magazines down your throat via these telemarketing services, who cling like a leech once they have you.  I keep a list of these phantom phone numbers by my phone and don't answer any calls from these numbers.  Thank God for caller ID!  And thanks to Secret and Tweeker for unearthing the mysterious source of these calls.

I get calls at work all the time from that #.  The people that call are ALWAYS RUDE.  They call about 15 times in a row literally abck to back asking for different people.  They constanly try to get me to give out personal business information.  The caller is usually female and has an accent, but no matter what they're always RUDE and I don't know why!!

Let this number roll into voicemail, if they have the guts to leave a message. This is a phone bank that is off-shore. I am led to believe that this phone bank is located in the Philippines, because they talk just like my relatives back home.

When I made the mistake of answering the first phone call I got from them and asked for a telephone number to call back, I was notified by the caller that this number is a VOIP line.  They are also calling for Advanstar, which publishes trade magazine for the medical R and D industry.

For all you Filipino folk out there who also make the mistake of answering, this is a good time to bust out the Tagalog and your family's dialects and politely ask in the mother tongues to stop calling... and then hang up. Going forward, just do not answer calls from this number.

I'm STILL receiving ongoing calls from 213-537-1438/1439 & every time they hang up & never leave a message. As with other Telemarketer numbers, I do NOT answer them any longer & have saved the numbers into my cell phone under "TELEMARKETER#-Do NOT Answer" (Where # is a 1, 2, 3, etc) & chose a Silent Ring for them, so it doesn't ring & wake me up or bother me. I have done the same with past numbers as well, as this has saved me a lot of time & trouble wondering who the hell is calling me at 3 AM! These calls are coming in at all hours of the day & night, so I'm guessing it's an automated system. As my cell number is listed on the Do-Not-Call list, I WILL be reporting these ongoing disturbance calls immediately to the FCC. Also, the owner of this number is Spark Marketing, Jonathan Adler, Adler Enterprises, 8001 Irvine Center Drive, 4th Floor, Irvine, CA 92618 Tel # 949-754-3044, Fax # 949-754-4441, Mobile # 818-219-9205, and his email is: jon.adler@sparkcallcenter.com / This LANDLINE number is issued by TCAST COMMUNICATIONS, INC., Location: LSAN DA 01, CA area. But... their call centers are located in the Phillipines. Oh, and if you do decide to answer, just scream "Putang-ina-mo, Bak-la Ung-goy!" really loudly, then hang up. :-P

Just got a call from these people at work.  There was another person on the other end of the line, but her english was very broken and I couldn't even understand the name of the person she was asking for.  She said this person was the vice president of the university, but there are 5 VPs here.  She got frustrated that I couldn't just direct her call, so she asked for the manager....um, I'm the secretary to the VP, so I guess that would be me.  Anyway, I asked what it was regarding so I could properly direct it.  She lets me know it's for a magazine subscription.  I immediately turn her down, but she is persistant.  I eventually have to hang up on her while she's talking, which I don't like doing.  Anxious to see how many calls we get now...

I work for a call center and we would be find for everytime the number called and hung up on a person.  This is out of hand companies like this ruin the reputation of call centers that are doing respectable work in the US.  All companies should be required to leave a voicemail message with why they are calling.

Ok, first things first. Why do these people don't leave a message instead on your voice mail? Because they are not allowed to. Why are they asking so many questions just for a subscription? Those answers are used as research to fuel up the economy, It's called market research, it's been around for some 30 odd years now. They are not rude by the way, they are just frustrated, try calling 350 people a day and spend 5 minutes explaining to them what you are doing, and getting a freaking hard NO for your efforts. Imagine, these guys are calling you in a 12 hour difference, meaning while you are up, and enjoying the wonderful morning breeze, these guys are awake all night trying to sound energetic, while every freaking thing around them is asleep. What's the problem with accent? as long as you understand them it's all fine. Look, these are honest and hardworking people, with families to feed, kids to send to school, futures to build  at the moment, this is the only good thing they have. Try living in a f*** up 3rd world country, with greedy politicians and a screwed system. Please..

Caller ID said SURVEY. Overseas caller asked for one of the managers here who gets a lot of magazine--excuse me--free trade publication--renewal begging calls, and it had the very same feel & sound.

Too many callers say, "This isn't a sales call, it's a survey." The they proceed to try to sell something. One of the oldest sales tricks in practice. But, lying scum are still lying scum. If you can't even give it away, time to go into a new line of business!
