Apria sucks.  They billed Medicare for almost $500 for a nebulizer that i found brand new online for $40.00.  I asked them to come pick it up, but they recided saying it was not cost effective.  Now they say they would right it off (even though they contiuned to bill Medicare).  And we wonder why the health system is failing!!!!

It's Apria.  A few years back I got a wheelchair from them and my insurance paid for it.  A few months ago I went in to see about getting a seat belt for it because my seizures had caused me to fall out a few times.  I was told that because my chair should have come with one in the first place, that they would just amend the insurance claim and I would not owe anything.  I was explicit that if it would cost ANYTHING  I did not want it.  So they said everything was fine and set up for someone to come to my place and install it.  Then, about two weeks later, I get a call from their billing department saying that since I am no longer insured with that insurance company I would have to foot the bill.  I told the rep what I was told and he said he would work on figuring it out and call me back.  I never heard back, but have been getting calls from this number like crazy and it's a machine every time.

I get calls from this number  and caller ID says Apria Health Care. I called Apria to see what's going on, and it is NOT them calling. It's someone trying to get your credit card numbers. BEWARE> DO NOT CALL THEM BACK!!! It is a recording that says your credit card is expired and they need you to verify the numbers on your card and renew it. SCAM!!!!!!! These people should be locked up.

They call at least once a week, no way to contact them is offered to be removed from their call list. A former resident of this house was an elderly lady whom they are apparently trying to hook up with oxygen etc. Anyone know how to get off their call list?

Got a call from this number on my cell phone...let it roll to voicemail. It left a message to call Apria at 866-505-6365. I noticed that they mis-pronounced the name "Apria" in the recording. I called the toll-free number and got Apria's billing center. The rep I spoke with was very pleasant, and was just as puzzled as I was at why I got the call in the first place -- I have no outstanding balance with them, and have not for several months (I got a new BiPAP late last year, and between my copay and insurance it was paid off). She told me she was taking my cell number off the account and leaving my home number, which is what I wanted.

Now, this sounds like a happy ending...but it's really a case of deja vu. For three days earlier this week I received multiple calls per day (as early as 7am and as late as 9pm) from a different number (419-628-7049) that never left a voicemail. My wife called that number yesterday, and just like today, it was Apria...and just like today, they didn't know why I was getting called because I had no outstanding balance...and just like today, they said they would remove my cell phone number.

It will be interesting to see if I get more calls from Apria using yet another phone number.

Apria has called twice in one week, once to "update" an expiring credit card record, and the last time to "remind" me of an outstanding balance. I only received the invoice two days ago and the balance is current. Since today is a Monday bank holiday, there has been no opportunity to pay yet, and they're harassing me to pay already! Came to find out their real motive for the call was to persuade me to authorize them to withdraw the funds automatically "to avoid getting these calls." No way would I authorize such access, considering what I've seen on this site, plus the way they've acted toward me already! I have the perfect way to avoid getting their calls:  I will change providers at the earliest possible moment and have their numbers blocked!

Apria has been calling me from this number ever since I got a Bi-Pap mach from a local company. The only reason they call is because I do not have a CC on file with them. Each time I ask them if I owe them money and they always say no, then it turns into a 10 minute argument about why they need a CC when I owe them no money. I told them two times ago not to call me again and was told my number would be removed. They called again and I told them that time if they called again I would start legal action against them for harassment, they did not listen. They called today, again to tell me I did not have a CC on file and wanted me to give them a CC when I owed no money. I told them that what I said last time, told them I was going to start legal action against them and hung up. I've had it with this BS company.

Good. The Feds are cracking down on Medicare fraud:

What Is Fraud & Abuse?
Fraud occurs when someone intentionally falsifies information or deceives Medicare. Abuse occurs when doctors or suppliers don?t follow good medical practices, resulting in unnecessary costs to Medicare, improper payment, or services that aren?t medically necessary. A complaint about the quality of care you got from a doctor, hospital, or other provider or facility is not considered fraud or abuse. If you have a complaint about your quality of care, please click here.

Examples of possible Medicare fraud are:

A healthcare provider bills Medicare for services you never got.
A supplier bills Medicare for equipment you never got.
Someone uses another person?s Medicare card to get medical care or equipment.
Someone bills Medicare for home medical equipment after it has been returned.
A company offers a Medicare drug plan that hasn?t been approved by Medicare.
A company uses false information to mislead you into joining a Medicare plan.

A Federal fraud investigation is a serious and lengthy process. Before you report fraud, consider the below:

Did you contact the provider? What did he/she say?
If you are uncertain about your statement, you should first contact the provider for more information.
Do you see an error on your Medicare Summary Notice (MSN)?
If you see a charge on your MSN that may be wrong, call your doctor, hospital, or other provider or supplier and ask about it. Many times an error has been made in billing and can be corrected.
Are there incorrect dates of service?
Be sure to check the dates of service on your MSN. Contact your provider if you remember having the service, but not on the date listed on the MSN.
Did you get two bills for the same services?
Sometimes when you get services in a hospital or your doctor?s office, you will get two statements: one from the doctor and one from the facility. This usually happens when you get services like labs, x-rays, anesthesia, and other services. This often happens when your doctor?s office is in a hospital or if you get lab services and the doctor sends the samples to another provider for the results. Usually, when you get x-rays and other tests in a hospital, the doctor will bill for reading the test and the hospital will bill for using the equipment. If you are uncertain about your statement, it?s best to contact the provider to get more information. This could be a simple billing error that the provider can correct or help you better understand.
Do you recognize the provider?s address on your statement?
Many providers have an office to handle medical billing that?s separate from the one patients normally visit. You should verify the practice location address (this is usually where the services were rendered). If you recognize the charges but not the address, this is usually not a fraud issue. If you are uncertain about your statement, it?s best to contact the provider for more information to help you better understand.
Do you know the provider?
If you recognize the charges on your statement but not the doctor, you should call your provider for help. Sometimes when you get services in a hospital, the lead doctor will sign off on all the paperwork even though you were treated by another doctor.

If you suspect fraud, you can report your issue to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) HHS Tips Fraud Hotline:

Office of Inspector General (OIG) Fraud Hotline
Phone: 1-800-HHS-TIPS (1-800-447-8477)
TTY: 1-800-377-4950
Fax: 1-800-223-8164
Internet: Report Fraud Online

Address:
HHS Tips Hotline
P.O. Box 23489
Washington, DC 20026-3489

You should have the following information when contacting the OIG:

Who committed the fraud?
Who are the victims?
What exactly did the suspect do?
Where did the fraud take place?
When did it happen?
How was the fraud committed?
Do you know why the person committed the fraud?
Who else has knowledge of the possible violation?
Your identity will be protected to the maximum extent allowed by the law. When reporting suspected fraud, Medicare will not use your name if you do not want them to. However, if you remain anonymous, it will be hard for Medicare and other departments to conduct their investigation because they will have no way to contact you.

10 Tips to Prevent Fraud
Never give your Medicare number to anyone, except your doctor or other Medicare provider.
Don?t allow anyone, except your medical providers, to review your medical records or recommended services.
Don?t contact your doctor to request a service that you do not need.
Don?t ask your doctor to make false entries on prescriptions, bills, or records in order to get Medicare to pay.
Don?t accept medical supplies from a door-to-door salesman.
Do be careful in accepting Medicare services that are represented as being free.
Do be cautious when you are offered free testing or screening in exchange for your Medicare card number.
Do be cautious of any provider who states he or she has been endorsed by the Federal Government or by Medicare.
Do avoid a provider of healthcare items or services who tells you that the item or service is not usually covered, but they know how to bill Medicare to get it paid.
Do use a calendar to track your appointments, admission and discharge dates, and what tests or X-rays you get, and compare this with the Medicare Summary Notice (MSN) you receive.

Left a blank message on phone since I don't answer "unknowns." After reading remarks, I have an account with Apria. They tried billing my insurance $650.00 for supplies and replacing a humidifier they said had a design flaw--gave me a new one and then tried to bill me for copay. Ha Ha.  It is obvious this company has some down-and-dirty maneuvers to bilk insurance.

Received call from Apria about credit card.  Said I had leased a CPAP machine.  Wrong.  I paid my part and BCBSNC paid their part.  They then said I had maintenance agreement.  I asked for copy of original sales agreement and lease agreement.  Has one week to comply, if not I then go to the The N.C. Attorney General Consumer Protection Division to investigate.  I have already turned Apria over to the NCBCBS fraud unit for a charge of $ 665.00 for what = supplies.  All of us should hold their feet to the fire.

Received a legitimate call from this number.  I had received medical equipment from Apria and had to cancel the original credit card which was used to cover the charges.  I called the 866 number ("Navistar")and cleared everything up on the phone by providing a new credit card number.  The person I spoke with was very helpful.
