I receive calls from this number on a daily basis: I don't answer, because they never leave a message and I don't recognize the number. Please make them stop!

Received calls from this number on my cell phone AND home phone ALL last week and ALL this week.
The calls come in EVERYDAY at the exact same time - 10:27AM CST
so I'm guessing it's an automated system.
Anytime I answer, I hear a humming/buzzing sound, then it hangs up.
There's never anyone there and no response.
I don't owe anyone anything, so I know it's not a bill collector.
If it's a magazine subscription renewal, I do all of mine directly through the company's website or through email, as I don't respond to solicitation phone calls. I also won't renew a magazine subscription if the company uses practices like this.
I've gotten to the point now that I don't even answer calls from this number anymore and have even assigned it a special ring tone so I know to ignore it.
Except for today. The call came in at 12:42PM CST. Strange.
I actually tried to answer it; Same thing. Line noise and no response.
I work at night, so these early morning calls have to stop now.
Finally had enough of it.
Went and filed a legitimate formal complaint with the FCC and WILL follow up with it is as well. I gave the FCC as much info as I could find about this company, their calling practices, locations, numbers, website address, etc.
Hopefully something will be done about it, and soon.

i keep getting calls every morning at my work from this number. it is a company wanting to get us to renew magazine free magazine subscriptions. they will call all day long going through most of our employee list. i've asked them numerous times to remove us from the database because we are not interested but it is not done. i just ignore the calls now.

This company is a collection agency called Asset Acceptance. I was waiting for a call from that area code and did not get to it in time (on my cell). When I called that number, it automatically reverted to a number back east, which I was able to verify was the above company. They are third party debt collectors and after 12 years of getting my credit cleaned up and completely cleared off my credit report, their statute of limitation debt has popped back on my credit report with erroneous dates. I know for a fact the debts they are trying to collect on were written off in the early 90's and removed from my credit report in the late 90's. They are sharks and have very questionable collection practices. WATCH OUT FOR THEM!!!!

Correction: This is NOT the first time that number has called my cell or home, so I WAS familiar with it.
Just noticed my mistake in my last posting back in February.

Just received two calls from this number
First call was on my cell phone. I didn't recognize the number, so I didn't answer. They hung up immediately without leaving a message.
Then my home phone rang, same number, same thing, hung up with no message left.
Both phone lines showed the number as: 213-943-5214.
But didn't show a name or anything else, just the number.
No clue who these people are.
I don't owe anyone anything, so it's not a bill collector in my case.
This is the first time that number has called my cell or home, so I wasn't familiar with it.
I do know this though:
(213) 943-5214 is a LANDLINE number
Phone Company: XO CALIFORNIA, INC.
Location: LSAN DA 01/SANTA ANA, CA
Local Calling Area: Los Angeles CA (includes La Paz County, AZ)
If the calls continue, will be reporting it to the FCC and having the number blocked through AT&T/Cingular/Bellsouth.

After a couple weeks, they got tired of voice mail, so now they call right back after I transfer them. I answered the first time they immediately called back and spoke to the guy, who went into the spiel about how I can renew the subscription in another person's name. I cut him off and said, "yeah, I know. I've heard this all before." I didn't get to finish the last sentence before he hung up on me. And yet, they still keep calling. Now I just hang up on them. They must be the most inefficient and redundant scam artists in the country. Hahaha. What king of job is that? When people ask what they do for work, what do they say? Probably a lie since they're so used to telling them. How embarrassing.

This company is based in the Phillipines. It is for free magazine subscriptions, but even when they get "updated" mailing information, they will still call. Very annoying.

They call our office all the time. The first time I asked to take a message and they tried to get me to renew a subscription in someone else's name. I send them straight to voicemail now.

When I call the number back it doesnt ring for a few seconds, then I get the dial tone again. But I'm not calling from the phone they called me on... I'm calling from a different line. I'm so super frustrated by this...

Here we go, here we go, here we go again. The third time i got a call from this number. Left a message again that sounded like a machine humming. Good stuff. RAWR!
| Melody 2007-11-05 22:44:41 Unknown |
They called AGAIN. This time there was a message on my phone with office noise on it. It was just people talking in the background and papers-- just office noise. no name or number or anything. I AM SO FRUSTRATED! phooey.

representing Medical Devices Magazine. (See below)
"verifying" information so they can send me a free trade magazine.
They, of course, wouldn't identify themselves & continued to prod for personal data, which I refused until they told me who they were & who they were representing.
The only thing they would tell me is they were going to send me a "Medical Devices" magazine. I intend to contact the publisher & inform them this type of marketing is going to cost them my business.

UGH! I get calls from this number ALL THE TIME! I never answer it because it's so far off from any number that *should* be calling me. It's very frustrating.

Received call to offer a Free Subscription to Network World Magazine. This reinforces some earlier posts that it's a marketing company for publishers that don't want to hire their own sales force.
Kinda pushy, but not unreasonably so. I don't feel a need to report them to anybody...

I had three "missed" calls from this phone number. I am glad to see that other people have investigated this number. When I tried to return the call, thinking it might be a customer........the call will not go through. It just disconnects.

Engineering Magazine Subscriptions seems to be calling from India. Maybe they are all using the same phone # to call out from India?????

Getting this annoying call everyday at my home. I never pickup and they leave no message. Hope there is a facility/device to block this number. This thread is very useful and informative. Thanks to all.

calls 4-8 times day rediculous, you would think after the 1st few times of not answering they would go away, but they are worse than mold on cheese.

Hi, I just got the same song and dance from someone claiming to be Raymond Benjamin from the PA Chamber of Commerce, about they had information that we were moving and they needed to verify that and other info about our company. I told him that we do not give information out over the phone and asked for a number where I could call him back to confirm his identity, he gave me this number 1-800-224-2727, which obviously is not valid.
